Yom Kippur - The Day of Atonement (יֹום הַכִּפֻּרִים)
Yom Kippur - The Day of Atonement (יֹום הַכִּפֻּרִים)
In Leviticus 16, Brother Gideon Levytam draws our attention to the Day of Atonement, the sixth of the seven feasts of the LORD. One man of one tribe could enter the Holy of Holies, and only on one day of the year. Aaron came washed and in white linen. He atoned for himself before he atoned for the nation, because the high priest was a sinner like the people he represented. Two goats were set before the LORD. One was killed and its blood sprinkled before the mercy seat, the kaporet (כַּפֹּרֶת). The other carried Israel's iniquity, transgression and sin away into a land not inhabited. Atonement was made even for the holy place, because a holy God was dwelling among an unclean people.
Setting that beside the day Israel keeps now, Gideon shows what has been missing since the temple fell. There is no altar, no priesthood and no sacrifice. The fasting and the prayers remain, but not the blood that the LORD said makes atonement for the soul (Leviticus 17:11). Aaron entered once a year and secured a covering for a year. Yeshua entered once by His own blood and obtained eternal redemption (Hebrews 9:12). The goat could only carry sin away from the camp. The Lamb of God takes it away altogether. Israel's own Day of Atonement awaits the day they look upon Him whom they pierced, and a fountain is opened to them for sin and for uncleanness.

Well, we want to say Shabbat Shalom and welcome to the Bible classes of the Holy Scriptures in Israel. We are very thankful for the privilege that the Lord gives us to open His Word and to be occupied with the person of the Messiah, our Lord Yeshua, who loved us and gave himself for us. This message today will be taken from Leviticus chapter 16. And my dear friend, hopefully you have the Bible available and open. We are going to deal with the Day of Atonement in Hebrew, Yom HaKippurim. So we are going to pray and then we will read from Leviticus chapter 16. Let's pray together. Let's ask the Lord to bless us.
And Abba our Father thank you so much for the privilege of being under the sound of your word. We ask your blessing upon your word for we ask it in Yeshua in Jesus name. Amen. Amen. So here am I reading from Leviticus chapter 16. I'm going to read some of the verses, but for the sake of making things easier for us all, I would like to read this passage portion by portion, and I would appreciate if you follow after me. I'm reading Leviticus chapter 16, first of all, verses 1 and 2. And the Lord spake unto Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered before the Lord and died.
And the Lord said unto Moses, Speak unto Aaron thy brother, that he come not at all times into the holy place within the veil, before the mercy seat, which is upon the ark, that he die not, for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat. just pause here for a moment dear brothers and sisters i would like to remind us all that when our people israel came out of the land of egypt some 3 500 years ago god gave to the nation of israel seven feasts that are called the feasts of the lord in fact in hebrew they are called "Moadei Yehovah" or "Moadei Adonai".
Seven feasts. These seven feasts, beloved friends and dear brothers and sisters, are found in the book of Leviticus chapter 23. Four of these feasts were spring feasts and three of these feasts were fall feasts.
Together they are called the seven feasts of jehovah the seven feasts of the lord and so when god gave israel these seven feasts every one of these feasts pointed to the person of the messiah who would come in the future day to provide redemption for mankind not only for israel but for all humanity the first four feasts which are passover unleavened bread the feast of first food and the feast of tabernacle the feast of a pentecost all these four feasts representing the first coming of the messiah he became the passover lamb he became the unleavened bread who lived a sinless life he became the one who rose from the dead represented by the feast of
first fruits and he have established the new covenant and he sent the Holy Spirit of God at the feast of Shavuot the feast of Pentecost introduce the present day age of the church of the assembly these are the first four feasts of the Lord took place in the spring season but a time passes by and there is about three or four months between the spring feasts and the fall feasts and at the fall feast we have the three fall feasts called the feast of trumpet the day of atonement and finally the feast or the feast of tabernacle in hebrew called sukkot and again these fall feasts representing now the second coming of the messiah to
restore the nation of israel and to establish the promised kingdom that he the lord the messiah will rule and reign as king of kings and lord of lords as we find ourselves today during the feast of the day of atonement this is a day when the nation of israel is a seeking for forgiveness from the god of our fathers as we enter here to leviticus chapter 16 we know this beloved friends that God gave specific instructions to the nation of Israel through Moses to Aaron the high priest of Israel and I would like you to notice the instruction that God given to Israel concerning the day of atonement and with the Lord's help I would
like to mention four points here in this meeting number one the day of atonement in biblical days number two the day of atonement today among our jewish people number three the day of atonement and the prophetic future of israel and number four the eternal atonement that our lord yeshua the messiah had provided for us when he came at his first coming some two thousand years ago and so notice the biblical instruction that God gave his servant Moshe to give to Aaron the high priest of Israel concerning the atonement that he was going to make for on behalf of the nation of Israel again I read verses 1 and 2 that the Lord spoke unto Moses
after the death of the two sons of Aaron when they offered before the Lord and they died.
What happened that in chapter 10, a bit earlier, Aaron's sons offered a strange fire upon the altar. And because they approached God in a wrong manner, they approached God by offering strange fire, God have smitten them and killed them because God is holy and he cannot look upon sin. We read in Leviticus 10 and verse 1, And Adav and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer and they put fire therein and they put incense thereon.
and notice and they offer strange fire before the lord which he commanded them not and so we read in verse 2 of leviticus chapter 10 and they went out a fire from the lord and devoured them that they died before the lord and so here in leviticus chapter 16 when god is instructing a aaron to approach him the manner whereby he will approach him on the day of atonement he says aaron cannot come to me at any time as he pleases verse one he says here when he his sons have already killed because they offered strange fire and they came before me in a wrong manner and so in verse 2 God instruct Moses to
say to Aaron the Lord said unto Moses speak unto Aaron thy brother that he come not at all time into the holy place within the veil before the mercy seat which is upon the ark that he die not for I will appear in the cloud upon the mercy seat god is saying moshe you tell eron that he cannot come at any time into the holy of holies and to remind you my dear friends then when the tabernacle was built there was a court area in the front where the where there was the the altar of the burning of the sacrifices but as you went in there there was a holy place and then if you
went further in there was the Holy of Holy Kodesh HaKodeshim and into the holy place Aaron and the priests could enter all day at all time but they could not enter into the Holy of Holies there was only one man out of one tribe out of one nation out of the whole world that could enter into the Holy of Holies only one day in the year and that was the 10th day of the month of Tishrei and so there was a warning giving and what we learned from this that there was a limitation in days of old even the high priest could not approach the Holy of holies at any time why it says at
the end of verse two because the lord will appear there with the cloud upon the mercy seat the cloud is the shekinah glory the shekinah the manifestation of the presence of god the mercy seat was upon the ark of the covenant it is called the kaporet in hebrew and there it was the lead that cover the ark of the covenant in the holy of holies and so in verses 1 and 2 we have the restriction that aaron and the nation of israel had and now notice that in verses 3 4 and 5 and i'm reading them we have the preparation of aaron the high priest to enter into the holy of holies it says in
verse 3 thus shall eron come into the holy place with a young bullock for the sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering he shall put on the holy linen coat and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh and shall he girded himself with a linen girdle and with the linen mitre and he shall be attired these are the holy garments therefore it says shall he wash his flesh with water and so put them on and notice what it says in verse 5 of our chapter and he shall take of the congregation of the children of israel two kids of the goats for a sin offering and one ram for a burnt
offering beloved brothers and sisters and dear friends when aaron would be preparing himself to enter into the holy of holies on yom ha-kippurim on the day of atonement he had to dress differently than the normal clothing that he had first of all according to verse 3 he had to first of all bring before the lord a bullock for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering animals had to be offered blood must be shed then also he had to change his garments he had to bring up to put upon himself linen coat linen breeches linen girdle and linen mitre.
In Hebrew "kutnot bad", "michnasei bad", "avnat bad" and "mitsnefet bad". Everything had to be white and pure representing Aaron approaching the holy of holies. Now the normal garments were regular were not white they were very they were different colors but during the day of atonement everything was totally white as he was appearing before the presence of the Lord you notice that he does say in verse 4 that he had to wash himself and then he put upon himself these garments why because washing always in the word of God representing symbolic cleansing the washing of the hands the washing of the feet the washing of the body it is representing even as we learn from the word of god immersion represent a ceremonial cleansing and so aaron is to prepare himself to enter into the holy of holies he's also not only that he is to take animals for himself namely the bullock and the ram in verse 3 but he was also to take on behalf of his people israel for the congregation he would take two kids of goats for sin offering and one rim for a burnt offering you notice you have these two two sacrifices sin offering to meet the need of the nation of israel that have sinned and burnt offering to meet the need and the demands of a holy God who is just and righteous.
The word sin offering comes from the Hebrew word chata'ah. The word burnt offering comes from the Hebrew word olah. The chata'ah is because Israel missed the mark, missing the mark. The Ola is that which rises up to God's nostril, and God is being satisfied with the sacrifice that had been offered and with the blood that had been shed. And so now notice that for verses 6 to 10, we have the presentation. Aaron had to present all these, the sacrifices and himself before the God of Israel. and so we read in verse 6 of leviticus chapter 16 and aaron shall offer the bulak for the sin offering which is first of all for himself and he should make him an atonement for himself and for his house and he shall take the two goats and present them before the lord at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation and aaron shall cast lots upon the two goats one for the lord and the other for as the scapegoat and as we read in verse 9 and 10 and Aaron shall bring the goat upon which the lord's lot fell and offer him for a sin offering and the goat on which the lot fell to be for a scapegoat shall be presented alive before the lord to make an atonement with him and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.
What we learn here, beloved friends and dear brothers and sisters, that there was the presentation of the sacrifices by Aaron before the holy God of Israel, even before he would prepare himself to enter into the Kodesh HaKodeshim, into the holy of holies. notice he must offer a bulak he must offer for himself and for his family to make an atonement after all aaron himself although he is the high priest of the nation of israel he himself has sin in him and he himself could not enter into the holy of holies before he first of all deal with his own sins! That's why, my dear friend, it is so important to understand that we all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and that's why we need the forgiveness of God that is based upon the sacrifice.
In our people Israel's ancient days, sacrifices had to be offered, and especially on the day of atonement on Yom HaKippurim and so Aaron in verse 6 offers Bulak for a sin of rim for his own self and he makes atonement notice for himself and for his house in verse 7 he takes the two goats that were for the nation of Israel and he presents them before the Lord at the tabernacle of the congregation, and he casts lots upon these two goats.
As he's casting lots upon these two goats, the one will be for the Lord, and the other will be for a scapegoat, and the word here for scapegoat comes from the Hebrew word le'azazel is only found scapegoat only found in this chapter of leviticus chapter 23 and it is found if i'm correct four times in leviticus chapter 16 here in verse 8 in verse 10 twice and a little bit later on in verse 26 four times the word leazazel is mentioned here in leviticus chapter 16 and it is simply representing or speaking about a scapegoat in other words the goat that will go and remain alive and will flee or will be led into the
wilderness and he this god representing the removal of the sins of the nations of israel from the presence of the lord and so we read of the presentation of the sacrifices by aaron before the lord and as we read the bullock for himself and for his household he have to make atonement for himself he is a sinner himself and he presenting the two the goats the lot was a cast the one was for the lord the other one for the removal of sins from the presence of the lord and we read in verse 10 but the goat which was a which a lot fell for the scapegoat shall be presented alive notice that before the
Lord to make an atonement for him and to let him go for a scapegoat into the wilderness.
Historically our people of Israel we have been taught over the generation that this alive goat was taken to the wilderness and he was actually pushed over the the cliff so he died eventually but it representing the removal of the sins of the nation of israel from before a holy and a righteous god to remind you beloved friends and dear brothers and sisters that there is a distinction between the blood of the lamb in the feast of passover pesach and the blood of the goat in the feast of a day of atonement the distinction is simply this the lamb representing the fact that the nation of israel who were away from god and the blood through
the blood god passed over them and made them his own his own nation his own people he redeemed them but the feast or the day of atonement is in reference to the way whereby god could maintain himself to remain in the midst of his people who are still sinners by nature you see it's representing for us beloved brothers and sisters the fact that the blood of our lord yeshua jesus the messiah deliver us from the judgment that we deserve to receive and we were redeemed by the blood of the lamb but we do need the very same blood on an ongoing basis to cleanse us from all unrighteousness and that's why we have in first
john chapter 1 and verse 9 this expression if we confess our sins we believers he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness and so in the next verses beloved brothers and sisters in verses 11 to 17 of leviticus chapter 16 we read listen to this and Aaron shall bring the bullock of the sin offering which is for himself and he shall make an atonement for himself and for his house and shall kill the bulak of the sin offering which is for himself and he shall take a censer full of burning coals of fire from of the altar before the lord and his hand full of sweet
incense bitten small and bring it within the veil so we read in verse 13 and he shall put the incense upon at the fire before the lord that the cloud of the incense may cover the mercy seat that is upon the testimony that he die not in verse 14 15 16 and 17 we read and he shall take of the blood notice the word the blood it was always necessary for blood to be shed because god said in leviticus 17 in verse 11 for the life of the flesh is in the blood and i have given it unto you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls for it is the blood that
maketh an atonement for the soul without the shedding of a blood there is no forgiveness of sins and so we read in the blood of the bullock he will sprinkle his finger upon the mercy seat with his finger eastward and before the mercy seat shall he sprinkle of the blood with his fingers seven times so aaron will come in he will bring the blood of the bulak for himself he will sprinkle it seven times before the mercy seat and then notice in verse 15 onwards now he's going to do the very same thing not only for himself but for his people because after all Aaron is representing the nation of Israel before their holy and
righteous God and so then he will kill the goat for the sin offering notice that is for the people this is for the people of Israel and he will do with the blood as he did with the blood of the bulags same thing he will sprinkle it upon the mercy seat beloved brothers and sisters the mercy seat in the hebrew it is called the caporet it is the lid that is laid upon the ark of the covenant upon that lid you have the two cherubim these two cherubim maintaining the holiness of the god of israel the shekinah glory is there dwelling between the cherubim the two cherubim and that is the manifestation of the presence
of god in the midst of his people and so here Aaron on Yom HaKippurim only one day in the year the only man the only person that could enter into the holy of holies he is approaching he is coming in placing the blood there before the mercy seat for himself of the blood of the bullock and now he is coming and he is presenting the blood here as it says in verse 15 of the goat on behalf of the nation of israel and he sprinkled it upon the mercy seat and before the mercy seat and notice what we read this is such a beautiful verse verse 16 of leviticus chapter 16 and he shall make
an atonement the word atonement come from the hebrew word kippur or kapara or covering this is why the name of this feast or this day called the day of atonement Yom HaKippurim one day a year on the tenth day of the month of Tishrei when God demanded from his earthly people Israel to maintain that day in which atonement will be made on behalf of the nation of Israel who had sinned before God even as his people and on a yearly basis on a yearly cycle every year on the 10th day of the month of Tishrei blood had to be shed over and above the morning sacrifices the evening sacrifices the monthly sacrifices the Shabbat sacrifices
this beloved brothers and sisters is a specific sacrifice to make an atonement a national kippur national atonement on behalf of the nation of Israel in verse 16 Aaron shall make an atonement but notice this for the holy place why because the holy place is in the midst of the nation of Israel and although they are redeemed yet they are sinners by nature just like you and I although we are redeemed yet we have this sin nature and we are sinners by nature we still sin and violate the word of the Lord and so he made atonement for the holy place if God is going to remain in the midst of his people his holiness must
be vindicated blood must be shed atonement must be made and not only this it says in verse 16 why atonement is made for the holy place here's the reason because verse 16b of the uncleanness of the children of Israel and because of their transgressions in all their sins and so shall he do for the tabernacle of the congregation that not as that that remaineth among them in the midst of their uncleanness if god is going to remain in the midst of his people the blood atonement must be provided on the 10th day of the month of Tishrei Yom HaKippurim the day of atonement it is a national atonement on behalf of all the nation of
Israel and the nation of Israel had to come to a point in which they repent before God and they receive his blessing and his forgiveness on Yom HaKippurim beloved brothers and sisters it says in verse 17 no man there shall be no man in the tabernacle everyone had to be kept out the tabernacle of the congregation when he goeth in to make an atonement in the holy place until he came out and have made atonement for himself this is Aaron and for his household this is Aaron's family and for all the congregation of Israel and beloved brothers and sisters Yom HaKippurim is the most solemn day in the history of our people the people of
Israel because on that day Israel our nation is seeking for forgiveness from the Lord and to that atonement will be made that that he could remain in the midst of the nation of Israel and so now notice this and we can see the beautiful lessons that while here are presented before us in the book of Leviticus but symbolically it is pointing us to the coming of the Mashiach who would come in the fullness of the time and that he himself will provide and make atonement he will remove sin from the presence of god as we read in john 1 and verse 29 concerning the lamb of god which taketh away the sin of the world
this is our lord yeshua the messiah behold the lamb of god john said in john 1 29 which not only make atonement but taketh away the sin of this world and so beloved friend listen to we see the beautiful typology of the type of the messiah's work for us on the tree we read now in the next verses listen to this it says in verse 18 and he shall go out unto the altar before which is before the lord and he will make atonement for it and he shall take listen once again he will take of the blood of the bullock and of the blood of the god these are the two animals the bullet
for himself for aaron and for his family the god for israel and the whole nation and what he's going to do he will put it upon the horns of the altar blood must be shed if there will be forgiveness for the nation of israel in days of all and notice if we continue a little bit further down in verse 19 he will sprinkle the blood upon it with the finger seven time the number seven represent for us a completeness god will be satisfied because the blood was shed and i would like to remind you my dear friends and dear brothers and sisters that god have demanded blood atonement to be shed on a regular basis
in the history of our people of israel it was not a suggestion it was a command why because god is looking over the ages and that every animal without blame blemish representing the coming of the messiah of israel and the savior of this world and while the blood of balls of bulls and and lambs and ram do not take away the sin of this world but it's only covered temporarily the lord is looking to the future day when the messiah has come already and once and for all by his own blood remove sin from the presence of god and so notice what we read here in the next verses in verse 20 we read and
when he has made an end of reconciling the holy place and the tabernacles of the congregation and the altar he shall listen he will bring the live goat there were two goats one was allotted for the lord to die and to shed its blood the other one was to remain alive and that goal that remain alive will represent the removal of sin from the presence of the lord in hebrew we call it lehazazel azazel mentioned four times in the hebrew scripture specifically in leviticus 16 verses 8 10 and 26 and so we read in verse 21 he ever shall lay both of his hands upon the head of the live goat verse 21 and he
will confess over him all the iniquities of the children of Israel in all their transgressions and in all their sins, putting them upon the hand of that goat, the live goat, and shall send him by the hand of a fit man into the wilderness.
I want you to note that in verse 21 you have three Hebrew words, one of them iniquities in the english which is avon the second one transgression which is in hebrew pesha and the third one sin which in hebrew hatha you have the three words that are found in the word of god that represents sin iniquities transgression and sins iniquity represent the crookedness of the human nature transgression represents the fact of the fact that we violate the law of the lord continuously and since representing the missing of the mark all have sinned all have missed the mark and come short of the glory of god and so aaron will lay both of his hands upon
the live goat and as it says here in verse 22 the goat shall bear upon himself all their iniquities known as unto a land not inhabited unto a land not inhabited i want you for a moment beloved brothers and sisters to turn with me to psalm 103 and there we read in verse 12 listen to this psalm 103 and verse 12 it said as far as the east is from the west so far has he removed our transgression from us that what took place when the goat was sent into a faraway land uninhabited beloved brothers and sisters god have removed the sins as far as the east is from the west turn to isaiah chapter
38 and there we read in verse 17 beloved brothers and sisters isaiah 38 and verse 17 we read behold for peace i had great bitterness but thou has in love to my soul delivered from the pit of corruption listen to the end of verse 17 for thou has cast all my sins behind thy back the prophet of israel said all the sins of the nation of israel were cast behind the back of the lord when he made atonement for the nation of israel these are such a beautiful verses beloved brothers and sisters that we can read as we study together the word of the lord especially this feast the feast of the day of atonement
now one more verse finding found in micah chapter 7 and i would like you to turn to micah chapter 7 and notice what we read here in micah chapter 7 and the verse is verse 19.
there we read he will return again he will have compassion upon us he will subdue our iniquity and notice at the end of verse 19 and thou will cast all their sins into the depth of the sea when atonement was made sin was cast into the depth of the sea when atonement was made beloved brothers and sisters sins were cast behind the back of god when atonement was made as far as the east is from the west so far we move the Lord our sins from before himself and all this beloved brothers and sisters is in view of the coming of the Messiah in the future day and so that is the instruction that we
have in Leviticus chapter 16 concerning the approaching of Aaron to approach the Holy of Holies where the Lord is on Yom HaKippurim on the day of atonement there was restriction there were limitations he could not come at any time he had to only come at a time where God have allotted him one day in the year and that was the 10th day of the month of Tishrei on the day of atonement now beloved brothers and sisters now since 3500 years ago that God gave this instruction you know time came our people have disobeyed the Lord and the tabernacle that later on now Israel built the temple and later on the the temple was destroyed by
Nebuchadnezzar then the second temple was built by Zerubbabel and also was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.
Since about 70 AD there is no temple in Jerusalem. There is no sacrifices in Jerusalem. There is not an altar in the temple.
There is no priesthood functioning and therefore there is no blood that is shed and placed upon an altar in the holy of holies there is no blood of atonement and no one can can even approach the holy of holies because the temple was destroyed in 70 AD what shall wash away sin today there is no blood there is no sacrifices there is no altar there is no priesthood there is no temple and sadly of course our people today are still keeping the day of the feast of atonement but you see what happened today in the day of atonement our people our jewish people will spend much time in the synagogue and what's going to happen
the jewish people will spend much time in the synagogue and there are five services from evening to evening from the sundown to sundown five services they are called mariv shaharit musaf mincha and there is na'ila there are five five a special prayer times the evening prayer the morning prayer the additional prayer the afternoon prayer and there is the na'ila called the closing prayer and when the people of Israel will repent and confess for confess their sins before the Lord the leader of the congregation he will recite the Kol Nidrei prayer and Kol Nidarai is a prayer where it is a prayer of repentance and asking for the Lord to forgive sins and that will be
recited by the chazan the one that will publicly pray on behalf of all our people the jewish people in the synagogue also beloved brothers and sisters there is a fasting of about 24 25 hours from the evening the sundown to the sundown where there will be an affliction of the body although God asked Israel to afflict their souls.
And they are also afflicting their souls by asking the Lord to forgive their sins. But again, there is no temple, therefore there is no Holy of Holies, therefore there is no altar, therefore there is no the Ark of the Covenant, and therefore there is no priesthood, and therefore there is no sacrifice, therefore there is no blood and therefore there is no atonement the blood is missing and god says in leviticus 17 11 that it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul so the blood is missing of course our people will not eat food well there will be no lotion no washing no no wearing leather because leather represents wealth and even no physical relationship between husband and wife.
There will be complete devotedness for the things of God seeking for forgiveness from the God of our fathers. But one thing, beloved brothers and sisters, is missing. There is no shedding of the blood. For without the shedding of the blood There is no forgiveness of sins because the blood is to be placed upon the altar to make an atonement for the soul. So what do we learn from that? Because if you now turn with me to the book of Hebrews, please, I would like to read a few verses from Hebrews. But before we read Hebrews, I would like you to turn to John chapter 19. In the Gospel of John, in the fullness of the time, beloved friend, God in his wisdom, he sent to this world, he sent to the nation of Israel, the promised Redeemer, the Messiah.
And when the Messiah, Yeshua, Jesus came, as we read of him in the four Gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, he came in the fullness of the time. And notice what we read of him in John chapter 19 as he had been placed on the shameful Roman cross. He came to offer himself as the supreme sacrifice for the nation of Israel and for all the nations of the world. He came to make an atonement for the soul. And so when Yeshua came, he lived a perfect life. He was born to the Virgin Miriam in the city of Bethlehem according to Isaiah 7:14. He was born in Bethlehem according to Micah 5.
He lived a perfect life as the servant of Jehovah according to Isaiah chapter 42. He came exactly for the express purpose that he would become a substitute. This Isaiah 53 declares: "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord laid upon him the iniquities of us all." Isaiah 53:6 And so we read of him in John 19:28. Here we see the Messiah, Yeshua, who came to fulfill the work of redemption. We read of him here, beloved friend and dear brothers and sisters, in verse 28, there on a shameful tree on the cross. We read, "After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, and that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.
there was set a vessel full of vinegar, and they filled the sponge with vinegar and put it upon a hyssop, and they put it to his mouth. And we read in verse 30, "When Yeshua therefore had received the vinegar, he said it is finished.
is finished and he bowed his head and he gave up the spirit it is finished the work of redemption has been completed the Messiah came he came in the fullness of the time for the express purpose beloved brothers and sisters and dear friend to make atonement for the soul to provide salvation and so beloved brothers and sisters just as we are heading towards the end of this message just go to the book of hebrews for a moment and you can see what the hebrew writer wrote concerning the person of yeshua jesus the messiah and the value of the finished work that he had accomplished he was the one that every bullock and every goat pointed
to him he was the one that in the fullness of the time he came exactly in accordance of the of that which the hebrew prophets of israel presented before the nation throughout israel's history and so we read in hebrews chapter 9 and verse 11 listen to these verses beautiful verses verses 11 to 15 and i'm reading hebrew 9 verse 11 but the messiah being common high priest of a good things to come by a greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hand that is to say not of this building neither by the blood of goats and kels but by his own blood he entered in once notice into the holy place having obtained eternal
redemption for us in other words aaron came into the holy of holies he had to bring the blood of the bulak because he couldn't come at any time because he himself was a sinner although representing the rest of the nation of israel but the messiah but christ the mashiach He came into the present, He entered into the presence of God in glory in heaven, not by the blood of goats, not by the blood of cows, but by His own blood, in the value of His own precious, precious blood He entered in, notice, once into the holy place, having obtained, notice, eternal redemption for us.
Aaron had to enter into the holy place every year on the tenth day of the month of Tishrei and he entered in in order to represent himself and the rest of the nation of Israel and he had to bring the blood of bullocks and the blood of goats but when Yeshua the Messiah came from heaven he have entered into the presence of God and he obtained not only temporary atonement "kapara" temporary for the year but eternal redemption for us verse 12 but not only so in verse 13 he said for if the blood of bulls and of goats and an ashes of heifer sprinkling the unclean sanctifying to the purifying of the flesh if that
temporary cleansing can be received through goats and and through the the the heifer he says how much more shall the blood of christ and the blood of messiah mashiach who is through the eternal spirit over himself without spot to god purge our conscience from dead works to serve the living god so he provided eternal redemption in verse 12 and he offered himself by the eternal spirit in verse 14 beloved brothers and sisters and now notice what we read here in verse 15 beloved brothers and sisters it said and for this cause he is the mediator of a new covenant of brit hadasha the new covenant which god had made with the house of israel and
with the house of judah that is recorded for us in the book of jeremiah chapter 31 verse 31 and 32 brit hadasha which is quoted to us in hebrews 8 and in hebrews 10 it is a new covenant made with the nation of israel and you and i as believers in the lord jesus the messiah doing this church a benefit from the blessing of the new covenant while our people of israel are waiting to enter themselves into the brit hadashah the new covenant that god had made with the nation which they will enter in when they will accept the messiah at his second coming and so notice what we read in verse 15 for this
cause he jesus yeshua became a mediator of the brit of a new covenant that by means of death he had to die he must die why he must die to make an atonement for the soul he had to pay for the sin of this world without his death burial and resurrection there is no justification for any sinner he was delivered for our offenses but he was raised for our justification roman chapter 4 and so we read that he had to die for the redemption of the transgression that were under the first covenant they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance and so the author who wrote to the hebrews spoke about eternity
eternal redemption verse 12 the eternal spirit in verse 14 an eternal inheritance for those who believe and accept the lord yeshua jesus the messiah today because he came to provide salvation for us and he declared it is finished my beloved friend i would like just to read one or two more verses found in the prophet Zechariah not only that the day of atonement had been given to israel in biblical days not only that the day of atonement is being kept by our people today yet without the shedding of blood not only that the day of atonement is a pointing to the messiah jesus who provided eternal redemption for all who came to trust in him
but the day of atonement also speaks to us about the future regeneration of the nation of israel the day of atonement will be fulfilled in a full sense of the word when israel the nation will come to recognize yeshua the messiah at his second coming and so the prophet Zechariah registered and recorded this final day of Israel national regeneration and we read of it in Zechariah chapter 12 and let me read quickly these final verses it says in verse 10 Zechariah 12 verse 10 and i will pour upon the house of david and upon the inhabitants of jerusalem the spirit of grace and supplication and they shall look upon me this is the messiah whom
they have pierced and they will mourn for him as one mourning for his only son and shall be in bitterness for him as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn this is the day of atonement when israel will repent and acknowledge the messiah verse 11 say in that day shall there be a great morning in jerusalem as the morning of hadadrimon in the valley of megiddo and the land shall mourn every family apart the family of the house of david apart and their wives apart the family of the house of natan apart and and their wives apart The family of the house of Levi apart and their wives apart.
The family of the house of Shimei apart and their wives apart. All, listen to this beloved brothers and sisters in verse 14 of Zechariah chapter 12. All the family that remain, remain from these terrible days of Jacob's trouble, of the tribulation days. All the family that remain, every family apart and the wives apart. They will mourn, repent before the Lord and will receive the Lord Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah, as the King of Israel and acknowledge Him that He is the one that took upon Himself the sin of this world. it says in Zechariah chapter 13 and verse 1 in that day there shall be a fountain open to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness God will open a fountain of his grace and will provide cleansing for the nation of Israel for sin and for uncleanness and he will provide for himself a pure nation a restored nation that to them to Israel he gave these seven feasts of Jehovah of the Lord which representing the final restoration of the nation of Israel at the second coming of the Messiah the day of atonement and the culmination by the Feast of Tabernacle, the Feast of Sukkot, which represent the Messianic Kingdom, when the Lord Jesus the Messiah will rule as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Israel restored, the world is blessed, The heavenly company, the assembly are with him, and there will be a time of a thousand years reign of the Messiah here upon the face of this world.
What a blessing is yet awaiting this world, but everything is wrapped up in the work of our Lord Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah, who shed his precious, precious blood to make an atonement and beyond to remove the sin of this world. may the lord bless his word to us all and so abba our father bless your word we pray for we ask it in yeshua's name amen and amen my dear friend god bless you until the next time we want to say to you shabbat shalom shalom shalom Thank you.
