Israel's Divine Heritage and the Deity of Messiah

Continuing his study in the Book of Romans (אֶל־הָרוֹמִיִּים), Brother Gideon Levytam examines the Apostle Paul’s list of the unique privileges God gave to the nation of Israel in Romans 9:4-5. Gideon walks through Israel’s national adoption as God’s son, the Shekinah glory, the covenants (including the New Covenant, Brit Chadashah), the giving of the Law (Matan Torah), the service of God (Avodat HaElohim), the promises, and the fathers (Avot).

Gideon then points to the climax of these privileges: from whom, according to the flesh, came Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah. Yet Paul also declares that Messiah is “over all, God blessed forever,” showing both His true humanity and His deity.

Well, Shalom everyone and welcome to the Bible classes of the Holy Scriptures in Israel. I hope you have your Bibles available with you. Open your Bibles to the book of Romans. We are studying in Romans chapter 9, 10 and 11 now. And if you have your Bibles with you, we are going to read today from Romans chapter 9. 9. We have covered the first three verses in our previous meeting together and we will continue from verse 4 to verse 13 but for the context I read once again from verse 1 so we will have it the whole section before us but before we begin let's ask the Lord to bless our meeting together.

I gather now Father we thank you for your word. We thank you for the words Shem Adonai. Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. Bless your word to us as we're studying together in the book of Romans. We ask it in Yeshua's name. Amen. Amen. So I'm reading from Romans chapter 9. For the context, although we are going to begin from verse 4, but for the context I'm reading from verse 1. To them in verse one i say the truth in Christ in Mashiach i lie not my conscience also bearing me witness in the holy Spirit that i have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart for i could wish that i myself were cursed from Christ for my brethren my kinsmen according to the flesh who are Israelis to whom pertain us the adoption the glory and the covenants and the giving of the law and the service of God and the promises whose are the fathers and of whom concerning the flesh Christ Mashiach came who is overall God blessed forever Amen verse 6 not as though the word of God has taken none effect for they are not all Israel which are Israel neither because they are the seed of Abraham are they all children but in Isaac shall thy seed be called that is they which are the children of the flesh these are not the children of God but the children of the promise are counted for the seed for this is the word of promise at this time.

Will I come and Sarah shall have a son and not only this but when Rebecca also had conceived by one even by our father Isaac for the children being not yet born neither having done any good or evil that the purpose of God according to election might stand not of works but of him that calleth it was said unto her the elder shall serve the younger as it is written Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated and I'm stopping here with the reading beloved brothers and sisters I've read Romans chapter 9 verses 1 to 13 now to remind ourselves that we are now in that section of the book of Romans that deal with the sovereignty of God.

That is very important. Why it is so important? Because God is sovereign, and because he is sovereign, he has a right to choose whom he will, and he has the right to bring those whom he wishes to have a relationship with himself. It does not only apply to the nation of Israel. Applies to you and I today who are part of the ecclesia of the church to remind ourselves that according to Ephesians chapter 1 the Apostle Paul said to the Ephesian believers in Ephesians 1 verses 3 and 4 blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ who had blessed us with every spiritual blessings according as he have chosen us in Christ before the of the world.

Imagine, beloved friends and dear brothers and sisters, that God, the sovereign God, has chosen us in Christ, in Messiah, before the foundation of the world. It is mind-boggling. Humanly speaking, we can't even grasp it. Well, this is exactly what the Apostle Paul desired to explain to the believers at Rome concerning. God's dealing with his earthly people of Israel well remember that we have said in our previous meeting together that some may raise the question there are some three questions that some may raise and the questions are simply this well if the gospel is for all and to the Jew first why so few Jewish people come to know the Lord in this present day of the church age salvation is towards all men and he gave so many promises to his earthly people and is of Israel how can we who are part of the church can be sure that God will fulfill the promises to the church if he hasn't yet fulfilled the promises to the nation of Israel and Paul will answer these beloved brothers and sisters in this chapter 9 10 and 11 as well of the book of Roman and the third question is has the church.

Replaced Israel? Does Israel have any future? If the church is now the people of God, how does that relate to the nation of Israel? Does Israel have a future? Is Israel going to be restored? Has God set aside Israel completely and replaced Israel by the church, by the assembly? Paul will answer this in Romans chapter 9, 10, and 11. And the answer, of course, no no no God has not replaced Israel by the church Israel will be restored the promises of Israel will be received as the promises to the church will be received and the reason that we have so few Jewish people come to faith in the Messiah during this church age it's simply because there is partial blindness judicial partial blindness that was given by God to his earthly people in Israel and that's why.

Fewer Jewish people came to faith in this present age although to remind you that the church began entirely by Jewish people in first century all the church in Israel in the land of Israel were totally Jewish then later on the message of God to the nations of the world well here we are now in first three verses. And you remember in the first three verses, Paul shared with the Roman believers his heart and his conscience. You remember what he said to them in Romans chapter 9, verse 1, 2, and 3. He says, I say the truth in Christ. I lie not, my conscience bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit that I have a great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.

For I wish that I myself who are cursed from Christ. My brother and my kinsmen according to the flesh. Now this seems to be like a very important verses to read. Notice what Paul is saying in verses 1, 2, and 3, that he has a great heaviness and continual sorrow in his heart. You know, he says, when he says elsewhere, the joy of the Lord is your strength. In the Lord always and now he says I have always continually sorrow in my heart how is it how is it jiving on the one hand he says that rejoice in the Lord always Philippian and now he says I have always sorrow in my heart it seems to be a contradiction well beloved brothers and sisters Paul is not contradicting himself he do desire that God's people will have to rejoice in the Lord at all times.

But he knew very well the way whereby God dealt with his earthly people, his brethren, the people of Israel, his Jewish brethren. And so he had sorrow in his heart, continual sorrow, while he was preaching to the Gentile world, while he was the apostle to the uncircumcision, always in his conscience. Notice that again, I'm emphasizing this word. I have a great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart, ongoing sorrow in my heart, for whom, he said, I could wish that I myself was accursed from the Messiah for my brethren, my kinsmen, according to the flesh. And in verse 4a, it says, who are Israel, who are Israelis.

Ceased to have an attitude of heaviness and love towards his brethren, the people of Israel, out of whom he came and out of whom he was called to be the apostle to the uncircumcision. What an attitude of heart. And I would like to suggest that he has the attitude of Christ. Let the mind of Christ, the mind of the Messiah, the Messiah, Yeshua, Jesus says, if you remember at his first coming he says oh Jerusalem Jerusalem how long would i have gathered you as a hen gather her chicks but you would not but he would not and he says your house shall be left unto you desolate and he shall not see me henceforth until you will say blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord and so the apostle Paul has the attitude of.

Our Lord Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah, by saying that he has great heaviness, great sorrow in his heart, and he was even willing to be a curse from the Messiah for his own brethren. Now how could he be a curse from Christ? He could never be a curse from Christ. He was saved, he was redeemed, he was forgiven. The Lord had chosen him to be part of the family of God. So Shaul Paul would never be able to be a curse, He was willing to be cut off from the Messiah only if his own brethren or if his own people will come to know the Messiah and be restored nationally to the Lord himself.

Well, now that we have covered these verses 1, 2, and 3, in verses 4 and 5 of our chapter, Romans chapter 9, in verses 4 and 5. Remind the Roman believers remember he's reminding the Roman believer because the Roman believers had an inclination just like many today to boast and to say you know to say you know what after all God now accepted us and he rejected his people Israel they were in unbelief and he have accepted us and there was an inclination to say oh you know and we took us as if we are much different than the nation of Israel. That's why he said later on in chapter 11 of the book of Romans, he said, I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, lest ye be ignorant, brethren, of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceit.

Verse 25 of chapter 11, he said in chapter 11 also. Do not boast against the natural branch. Remember that you were grafted in. Don't you boast against the natural branches. Don't you think that because you are now in and you have accepted the Lord Jesus and you are part of the church, of the assembly, don't you boast against the natural branch. And you know, it is in us all the inclination to be proud and to be boastful. Well, Paul reminding the Romans of the Israel privileges, historical privileges of the nation of Israel that are found here in, he lists them before the Romans in chapter 9 in verses 4 and 5.

And you notice what he does. A chosen nation head and that's why in verses 4 and 5 he's saying those who are Israelis number one to whom pertain is the adoption number two the glory number three the covenants number four the giving of the law number five the service of God number six the promises number seven whose are the fathers the fathers came from the nation of Israel and ultimately of whom concerning the flesh, the Messiah came, who is overall God blessed forever. You notice that? Brothers and sisters, that in these two verses, we have a list that the Apostle Paul is listing, providing this information to the Roman believers about the privileges, that Israel the nation had.

In order to begin with the word "to whom pertains the adoption." You know each and every one of us were adapted to God. We are called sons and daughters of the Father individually today. But do you know that Israel is called God's son nationally? Turn with me to Exodus chapter 4 for a moment. In Exodus chapter 4, we read in verse 22 and verse 23 concerning Israel as a son, Israel's national adoption as the son of God. We read in chapter 4, before Israel came out of the land of Egypt, in chapter 4 and verse 22, God said, unto Pharaoh he's saying to Moses said to Pharaoh through Moses Israel is my son Israel is my first born you see Israel nationally Israel is God's son as a nation Israel is called God son now of course it is different because you and i today are called sons of God you remember John 1 in verse 12 as many as receive him to them he gave the authority to be called sons or daughters or children of God even to them that believe on his name but these are an individual it's unique each and every one of us called the son the daughter of the father today in this church age but as a nation Israel is called the son of God.

To go with me to the book of Hosea for a moment please you notice that we read in the prophecy of Hosea I'll just open in chapter 11 it says in Hosea chapter 11 in verse 1 and I'm reading Hosea 11 verse 1 Israel notice that and I'm reading chapter 11 in verse 1 when Israel was a child I loved him and I called my son out of Egypt. Notice that? Again, Israel as a nation is called God's son. Israel is my son. So Israel as a nation was adopted by God out of all the other nations of the world to be called the son of God. Of course, we must distinguish this from the church age.

We are today individually, every believer from every people, tongues and nation, we are called the sons of the fathers. We are in a unique privileged position today. But only one nation was a nation that is called by adoption the son of God. In Hebrew it is called mishpat habanim. So, Israel is my son. In fact, in Isaiah, just to read one more verse, in Isaiah chapter 63, I think I should read that. If you turn with me to Isaiah 63. In Isaiah 63 and verse 16, we read, Israel is saying. Though Abraham be ignorant of us and Israel acknowledge us not, thou, O Lord, art our Father, our Redeemer.

Thy name is from everlasting. You see, Israel recognized the Father. God is their Father. So Israel calling God Abba, our Father. But again, it is a national call of God it's not an individual usually we apply this to present-day believers in the Lord Jesus we call God Abba our father not nationally as Israel but as individuals well not only that notice that again in the list we are back to Roman chapter 9 in verse 4 those who are Israelis notice that to whom. The adoption, but he continues saying also the glory. You notice that, beloved brothers and sisters? The glory, the word for glory is kavod. It's applied to the shekinah glory.

There was only one nation that ever have experienced the manifestation of the presence of God through the shekinah, the glory of God, leading the nation as a nation, throughout the the the when they went out from the when they went out from Egypt Israel as a nation was led by the Lord with the Shekinah glory we read in Exodus chapter 13 and I'm reading Exodus chapter 13 in verse 20 and 21 and they took their journey from Sukkot and they kept in a time in the edge of the wilderness, and the Lord went before them by the day with a pillar of cloud, listen to this, it is fascinating, to lead them the way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, to go by day and night.

That is the manifestation of the Shekinah glory, that God was leading the nation with a pillar of cloud. By daytime, pillar of fire by night, and he was leading the nation of Israel from Egypt towards the promised land. So nationally speaking, Israel experienced not only the adoption, the Imutz in Hebrew it's called, but also the Kavod, the glory, the manifestation of the presence of God in the midst of the nation. Let me just remind you that when the tabernacle was finished to be built, the Shekinah glory rested right there in the Holy of Holies. When the cloud was there resting in the presence, in the midst of the nation of Israel, in the presence of the nation.

And Israel literally as a nation has seen the Shekhinah, the manifestation of the presence of God, through the pillar of clouds and a pillar of fire. So Paul is reminding the Roman believers that he wished to be a curse from the Messiah for his brethren, for his kismens according to the flesh, who are Israelis and to whom belong the adoptions, they are called the sons of God nationally, glory this is the Shekinah glory that was manifested to the nation of Israel when God had called them to be his own but even more and this is very interesting because the list goes on and in the next verse he's saying "and the covenants" now this is also very important remember that according to the word of God we have eight covenants that God made with humanity.

The Idani Covenant, the Adamic Covenant, the Noahic Covenant, the Abrahamic Covenant, and then we have the Mosaic Covenant, and then he made the Land Covenant, the Davidic Covenant, and the New Covenant. There are eight covenants that God made with mankind. Three of the first three covenants, the Idanic, Adamic, and Noahic, with all men, with all people. But out of the eight, five of these covenants he made with his earthly people of Israel. And so in this next verse here, or next statement, to whom pertaineth also now the covenants and the giving of the law, he's making a reference to the five covenants that God made with the people of Israel.

What are those covenants? First of all, the Abrahamic covenant, Genesis chapter 12 verses 1, 2, and 3. Secondly, the land covenant, Deuteronomy 29 verse 1 onwards. Thirdly, the Davidi covenant, 2 Samuel chapter 7. Which is Jeremiah chapter 31 verse 31 these four covenants were unconditional covenants that God made with the children of Israel again let me repeat them the Abrahamic covenant the land covenant the Davidic covenant and the new covenant let me just remind you the Abrahamic covenant we read in 12 in verse 1, 2, and 3. God said to Abraham, Now the Lord said unto Abraham, Get thee out of thy country, and of thy kindred, and from thy father's house, and to a land that I will show thee of.

Notice that. And then he says, And I will make thee of a great nation, and I will bless thee, and I will make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless thee, and I will curse him. That curse thee and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed. This is the Abrahamic unconditional covenant. God did not say to Abraham if you will do this then I will fulfill my covenant. It was an unconditional covenant. The same thing when it's come to the land covenant. When you read from Deuteronomy at chapter 29 onward God promised the land to the people of Israel and it was a promise to give them the land unconditionally and if they will violate his word he will disperse them from there but he will always bring them back and we read in Deuteronomy chapter 29 these are the words of the covenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab beside.

Covenant which he made with them in mount hohev in other words the land covenant was an additional distinct covenant that God promised to give Israel the land of Canaan and then we have the davidic covenant God promised to David that he will raise up a sea to David and that David a son will sit upon his throne it is an unconditional covenant indeed finally the Messiah came and the Messiah was from the line of David and ultimately the Messiah will sit upon the throne of David Jesus Yeshua the Messiah in a future day and of course the new covenant beloved brothers and sisters if you turn with me for a moment to the book of Jeremiah chapter 31 and you notice in Jeremiah chapter 31 in verse 31 and.

32 God promised that he will make a new covenant in Hebrew with the people of Israel notice that I'm reading Jeremiah 31 and verse 31 behold the day come saith the Lord that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah notice the covenant itself the new covenant is with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, which my covenant they break, although I was a husband unto them, says the Lord.

Verse 33 says, But this shall be the covenant that I will make once again with the house of Israel after these days. Sayeth the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and I will write them in their hearts, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Do you know, beloved brothers and sisters, that although you and I have entered into the blessing of the new covenant, yet the new covenant was made with Israel and with the house of Judah, and Israel as a nation are still waiting to come into the covenant that God made with Israel with them you and I who are part of the church today come under the blessings of the new covenant that God made with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah so back to Romans chapter 9 in verse 4 to them belong the adoption.

Israel is my son. The glory, the Shekinah glory, manifestation, dwell there in the midst of the nation of Israel, in the tabernacle, in the temple in Jerusalem. Then the covenant, the four unconditional covenant that God made with the people of Israel, Abrahamic, land, Davidic, and new covenant, Brit Hadashah. But then he continued and said, and the giving of the law. The giving of the law was the fifth covenant that God made with Israel, except that this giving of the law was a conditional covenant. The Abrahamic, the land, the Davidic, and the new covenants were unconditional covenants. But the giving of the law, Matan Torah, in Hebrew it's called Matan Torah, the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai, That was a conditional covenant.

The law was a conditional covenant. And Israel broke that law. Israel failed to submit to that law. And God knew it. That's why he said in Jeremiah chapter 31, verse 32 and 33, that he will make a new covenant, covenant which Israel broke but a new covenant unconditional covenant that he will make with the nation of Israel and he will fulfill this covenant to to the end when he will restore the nation of Israel to himself by the way the the law the the giving of the law you can read it in Exodus 19 from verse 16. All the way onward, chapter 20 and onward, you can see of the giving of the law to the nation of Israel.

And of course, sadly, even before the law had entered into the camp, Israel had already broken that law by building golden calves. You remember that? How sad it was. That should his own people are worshiping the golden calves and they're saying this is this is your God or Israel that brought you out of the land of Egypt how it saddened his heart that he had to break the the tablets right there and to crush it in the presence of the nation of Israel because they have already violated the first written in the tablets thou shall have no other God before me and so Moses gave the law but Israel broke it out of the five covenants that was the only covenant that was conditional and Israel is the one that received the covenants and they received the law as well beloved brothers and sisters as we continue in the next in the as we continue here with these beloved brothers and sisters right now we can see in this in this next verses now beloved brothers and sisters actually it's still part of verse 4 we have the service of God and the promises you know Israel did not only receive the adoption the glory the covenants and the giving of the law.

But to them also pertaineth also the promises, the services of God and the promises. There was only one nation that had the privilege to have the services of God in the tabernacle and in the temple. The priesthood services, the high priest service as he would come into the Holy of Holies once a year to make atonement for the nation. These are all these services that are connected with the ministry that God had given to the people of Israel. The offerings of sacrifices and the keeping of the feasts that God had given to the nation. Of Israel it is only a show us how many services God had given to the nation to one single nation in Hebrew it is called avodat ha-Elohim the services of God if you remember in the book of Hebrews we read in chapter 10 of the fact that there were offered you remember in Hebrews chapter 10 we read there and i'm reading just a few verses there it says for the law having a shadow of good things to come and not the very image of the things can never with with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually Israel had to offer sacrifices regularly every day and every year they had to offer sacrifices on an altar there was services the high priest had to enter into the holy of holies the priest had to go into the holy place to to trim the lamps to change the bread on the on the table of showbread to offer incenses on the altar of incense to offer sacrifices these are services that were given.

To the nation of Israel. The Levitical priesthood, all the services that were given to the people of Israel. Fascinating when you think about it. Again, it was instituted by God. It was given by divine design. And so to them were pertaining the services of God. And when you think about it, brothers and sisters, the king of Israel was serving God. In the office of a king, the prophet of Israel. He was serving God in the office of a prophet ministering to the nation. What an amazing privilege it was. The priest, the king, the prophet, everyone functioning in their services for God, ministering to God's people on behalf of God, it to the nation what an amazing thing it was for the nation what a privilege it was to be a nation that hear from a living God David said what a what a privilege to be part of a nation whom the Lord is their God and so here the apostle Paul reminding to the believers at Rome he said to them listen brethren He says, I am so heavily burdened with the condition of my people, and I am willing to be accursed from Christ for my brother and my kinsmen according to the flesh who are Israelis, and to them pertain as their adoption.

They were adopted by God. They enjoyed the glory of the presence of God. They received the covenants from God. They received the law from God. Whether it is in the office of a Levite or of the priest or the prophet or the king or whatever ministry they have had and to them were pertaining also their promises now when you look at a list of the promises that was given to the people of Israel in Genesis 12 there was a promise of the land to Abraham Isaiah, there was a promise of the Messiah that will come. And we can have a list of the promises that we have from God, which he promised through the prophets to the nation of Israel.

So many promises that are recorded in God's word. Let me show you one promise that I just read yesterday in Ezekiel chapter 36. Promise that even today now that we are already 2000 years some 2000 years through church age this promise that haven't yet been fulfilled since it was given about 700 years before the Messiah even came God said to Ezekiel concerning the nation of Israel it says in chapter 36 of the prophet of Ezekiel he said to them I have a pity on my own in my holy name in verse 21 of Ezekiel chapter 36 which the house of Israel has profaned among the heathen whither they went in other words I have removed them out of the land and I have dispersed them to all the heathen they had profaned name even there and then he continues he says therefore say unto the house of Israel verse 22 thus says the Lord God I do not this for your sakes O house of Israel but for my own holy name sake which ye have profaned among the heathen whither ye went I will sanctify my great name which was profaned among the heathen which ye have profaned.

Midst of them and the heathen shall know that i am the Lord says the Lord God when i shall be sanctified in you before their eyes he continued he says in verse 24 i will take you from among the heathen and i will gather you all out out of all the countries and i will bring you into your own land and i will sprinkle clean water upon you and you shall be clean from all your filthiness and from all your idols i will cleanse you He says, and who heart will I give you, and who spirit will I put within you, and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh, and I will put my spirit within you, and will cause you to walk in my statues, and ye shall keep my judgment, and ye shall do them.

These are one of the promises, one of the greatest promises to the nation of Israel. Whom he scattered, he promised that he will gather them. Jeremiah said, the Lord shall gather whom he had scattered. He that scattered Israel will gather them. Many promises God made to the people of Israel, which were not fulfilled as yet. And so he's listing before us, beloved brothers and sisters, Chapter 9 verses 4 and 5 concerning his brethren according to the flesh who are Israelis to whom pertains the adoption, the glory, the covenant, the giving of the law, the services of God, and the promises of God. Amazing. The promises of God which were not fulfilled as yet.

Now, when Paul wrote this, he wrote this letter at about 60 AD. Now that we live in about nearly 2,000 years pass by, these promises have not been fulfilled as yet. And we live in the church age, and we are waiting for the promises that God made to the assembly, to the church. And if God is not going to fulfill the promises, that he had promised to Israel, how can we be sure that he will fulfill the promises that he made to the church, to the assembly? And this is exactly what Apostle Paul is seeking to convey to the Roman believers in the section of Romans 9:10 and 11 concerning the righteousness of God in his dealing with his people, with his earthly people of Israel.

In verse 5 he says, "Of whom are the fathers?" The fathers. Do you know that the fathers came from the nation of Israel like, of course, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, all the fathers. The fathers that are to whom God made promises through the nation of Israel, Abraham. We read of him as a father of the nation of Israel. I will make of thee a great nation. Isaac, when you think about Isaac, how Isaac, the son, was elected. Remember, even though Abraham had also Yishmael as a son, yet he took Isaac, he have elected him, have made him part of... Genesis chapter 21. And then Jacob, Yaakov, Yaakov, and we will see it later on when we get to the next verses.

It was Jacob who was born with his brother Esav. Actually Esav came first. And yet Jacob was the one that became the father of the nation of Israel. His name was changed from Yaakov to Yisrael. And from Yaakov to Israel, Jacob became the father of the 12 tribes of the nation of Israel. And because he became the father of the 12 tribes of the nation of Israel, he was the one that God have used to be as the father of the nation. And through them, the 12 tribes came. And then the 12 tribes, you have all the descendants of Jacob. Of Israel came the fathers, Ha'avot in Hebrew we call them.

But the climax here, and I think with that we can kind of sum it up, these two verses, and I just wanted to touch them for this meeting today. The Apostle Paul continued to remind the Roman believers that through the nation of Israel came not only the fathers and the many promises that were given and the many services that they had the privilege to enjoy and the giving of the law and the covenants and the glory and the adoptions they are called Israel is my son but notice that beloved brothers and sisters through the nation of Israel the Messiah came according to the flesh he says in verse 5b whose are the fathers notice and of whom In other words, God has elected the nation of Israel through whom he will send to this world the Messiah himself.

This world as a descendant of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as a descendant of the nation of Israel. And Paul is emphasizing here in this ninth chapter when he's writing to the Romans, because the question was raised, well, if the gospel was going on to all the nations of the world, to the Jew first, how come it is that so few Jewish people come to faith in a Messiah and if the gospel was for all nations and the promises of God was given both to Israel and to the church how can we be sure that the promises of God to the church would be fulfilled if the promises of God to Israel haven't yet come to pass and has the church replaced Israel come back to the Lord thus far the question is asked well beloved brothers and sisters Paul is now preparing the Roman believers to understand that it is in the sovereign will of God everything he does it is accordance to his sovereign will and that he knew very well that will be a period of time in which the nation.

Of Israel will not come to know the Messiah at his first coming the church will be born and you and I Gentiles and Jews will be united into this one body called the church while Israel ultimately in the future day will be restored but in a meanwhile God has fulfilled his promises to the nation because he had promised that the Messiah will come And surely, notice that, and I'm reading this again, from them also concerning the flesh, the Messiah came. Christ came. And notice that, who is over all, God blessed forever. Now turn with me to the Gospel of Luke for a moment. Luke chapter 1.

In Luke chapter 1 we do read, I just want to read a few verses. In Luke chapter 1, we read in verse 26 onward, we read, in the six months, the angel of Gabriel was sent from Gal to the city of Galilee by the name of Nazareth. And there is to a virgin that was espoused to a man whose name was Yosef of the house of David. And the virgin's name was Miriam. And I'm just going down a little bit further. Verse 30. Jacob forever. And of his kingdom there shall be no end. You see, he is telling this virgin Miriam, who is a descendant of the house of David according to the promises of God in the Hebrew Scripture.

She is a virgin according to Isaiah 7:14. She is a descendant of the house of David according to 2 Samuel chapter 7, that a king will come out of a descendant, out of the family of David. She will bring forth a son. A virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel, God with us. So, long before the Messiah was born, the promises were given in the Scripture. But in the fullness of the time, when the Messiah came he was told he was he the angels told Miriam that he will be the one that will be called Yeshua Jesus you shall call his name Jesus for he shall save his people from their sin you shall call his name Yeshua for he yoshia he will save his people from their sins well he was born as a.

Descendant of the house of David. According to the flesh, he must be born to the family of the house of David, who was a descendant from the family of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Turn to John chapter 4. John chapter 4. In John chapter 4, we read, brothers and sisters in verse 19 you remember when the samaritan woman was had the privilege to speak to Jesus to Yeshua the Messiah we read in John chapter 4 and i'm reading verse 19. John 4 and verse 19 and the woman says unto him sir i perceive that thou art a prophet Jesus said unto her, of the Jews. In other words, here the Lord said to them that the Messiah will come.

It's not that the Jewish people will save others. The Jewish people could not save others because they are just as sinners as others. We are all sinners. But through the Jewish people, the Messiah will come who will be the Savior of sinners. Salvation is of or through the Jewish people. When the Messiah will come, he will be born. As a Jew to the nation of Israel, and he will become the one that will be the promised Messiah. Now, one more verse. I would like you to turn to Hebrews. Hebrews chapter 2 and verse 16 and 17. In Hebrews chapter 2, verse 16, the author said to the Hebrew believers, he said to them, for verily he, this is the Messiah, He took not on him the nature of angels, but he took upon himself the seed of Abraham.

When the Messiah was born into this world, as Romans 9 and verse 5 says, man, as a Hebrew man. He did not take upon himself the nature of angels, but he took upon him the seed, a descendant of Avraham. He became a Hebrew, he became a Jewish man, a sinless Hebrew, a sinless Jewish man, one that was born to the virgin. But notice that, brothers and sisters, and I'm going to just finalize here in verse 5. The Messiah came concerning the flesh as a descendant of the people of Israel, but notice he doesn't stop here. He says, who is over all God, blessed forever. This is such an important thing to get a hold of.

A Jewish man, a Hebrew man. He entered into this world through the Virgin Maryam and he became a Hebrew of the Hebrew, we might say. Hebrew man, a Jewish man. But the Messiah is also sovereign. He's overall. But even all, it says the Messiah is divine, who is overall God, blessed forever. You know, that I had such a hard time when I first was exposed to the Gospel many years ago to understand that how can God become a man? How can a man claim to be divine? How is it possible? In fact, this is a dilemma that is still existing in the life of many today.

How is it possible? That God will take upon him the humanity. Well, this is the whole truth that we learn from the Word of God. You remember John tells us this in John chapter 1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was that he was in the beginning with God. Nothing made which was made. And then John 1:14: "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth." This is something that is beyond comprehension. It is only as the Spirit of God help us to understand it we can grasp it.

That's the whole beauty of the Gospel, that God in His grace took upon Himself to take the nature, He took upon Himself humanity, He became a man. And just because He was the only one that was qualified to pay for the sin of this world as a man, He died on a shameful Roman cross. And paid for the sin of this world. None of us can do that, because we are sinners by nature. We cannot pay for someone else's sin. We have to pay for our own, and we cannot do it on our own. So what God has done? He himself, in the person of the Son, took union humanity with his divine nature, and as men, as men, He lived here in this world, perfectly sin apart, and went all the way to the altar, where on that shameful cross He would pay for the sin of this world.

And so, beloved brothers and sisters, let me read these two verses once again, and I'm closing. Romans chapter 9, verses 4 and 5. Who are Israelis to whom pertains the adoption and the glory, and the covenants and the giving of the law the service of God the promises of whom of the fathers and concerning the flesh the Messiah came who is overall God blessed forever Amen that's what Paul is saying to the Romans that through the nation of Israel the Messiah came who is God. And who is over all, and he is blessed forever. And Paul closes here with the word, Amen. And we can all say Amen to that, because, praise God, because he loved us, he came down to this world as a man willing to lay down his life for the sin of this world.

And praise God for that. And my dear friend, we will close with this, Romans 9, verses really verses 4 and 5 for this session for today and in the will of the Lord we'll continue to see what an interesting portion of Scripture is Roman chapter 9 of the sovereignty of God in relationship to his earthly people the people of Israel well may God bless his word my dear friend I gather now Father thank you for the Messiah who came through the nation of Israel this world who gave himself in order to provide salvation for us all bless your word today we pray for we ask it in Yeshua's name Amen and Amen God bless you my dear friend until the next time we say Shalom Shalom Bye Bye Thank you.
