Vessels of Mercy and the Preservation of the Remnant

In this study of Romans 9:22-29, Brother Gideon Levytam explores the depths of God’s sovereignty and His divine purpose in redemption. Continuing with the illustration of the Potter and the clay, Gideon explains that while humanity has fitted itself for destruction through its own sin, God demonstrates His incredible long-suffering toward the “vessels of wrath.” In contrast, He makes known the riches of His glory upon the “vessels of mercy,” whom He prepared beforehand for glory. His mercy extends not only to the Jewish people but also to believers from among the nations (Gentiles).

Gideon highlights the fulfillment of the prophecy of Hosea (הוֹשֵׁעַ), where those who were once “not My people” are now called the “children of the living God.” He also emphasizes the biblical principle of the remnant within Israel. Quoting the prophet Isaiah (יְשַׁעְיָהוּ), he reminds us that although the children of Israel may be as the sand of the sea, God has preserved a seed for Himself throughout history, ensuring the fulfillment of His covenant promises to Israel and preventing the nation from being utterly consumed like Sodom and Gomorrah. This study underscores that salvation is entirely a work of God’s grace and mercy toward all whom He calls.

Well, we want to say shalom and welcome everyone to the Bible classes of the Holy Scriptures in Israel. We are very thankful for the Lord's help as we are studying together the book of Romans. We have arrived to Romans chapter 9. We are right in the middle of the book. In fact, we are in Romans chapter 9. This chapter we will read from verse 22 today. Hopefully you have your Bibles available, please. Romans chapter 9 from verse 22. We'll read to the end of the chapter. So let's pray first of all. Ask the Lord to bless the meeting today. Our God and our Father, we just want to thank you for your love and care for us.

Thank you for the book of Romans, for the Apostle Shaul Paul, learn from the letter that Shaul Paul wrote to the Romans. Blessed to us today we pray for we ask it in Yeshua's name. Amen. Amen. So I'm reading from Romans chapter 9 and verse 22 to verse 33. Paul continue to convey to the Romans by saying, what if God willing to show or to demonstrate his wrath and to make his power known, endued with much long suffering and the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction, and that he might make known the riches of his glory or the vessels of mercy. Compared unto glory, even us, whom he hath called not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles, as he says also in Hoshea: "I will call them my people which were not my people, and her beloved which was not beloved." And it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them ye are not my people there shall they be called the children of the living God Isaiah also cried concerning Israel though the number of the children of Israel be as the sand of the sea a remnant shall be saved for he will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth And as Isaiah said before, except the Lord of Tzevaot had left us a seed, we had been a sdom and been made like Amorah.

What shall we say then? That the Gentiles which follow not after righteousness have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith. Which followed after the law of righteousness, has not attained to the law of righteousness. Why, wherefore? Because they sought it not by faith, but as it were by the works of the law. For they stumbled at the stumbling stone, as it is written, Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and a rock of offense. And whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. And I'm stopping here, beloved brothers and sisters, reading for us together in this session from Romans chapter 9 and verses 22 to verse 33.

This is the last section of Romans chapter 9. Of the five sections of the book of Romans, sin, salvation, sanctification, sovereignty, and service. This is the whole five divisions of the book of Romans. We are in the section that deals with the sovereignty of God. Romans 9, Romans 10, and Romans chapter 11. These three chapters really deal with God's dealing with Israel in past history, representing the privileges of the nation of Israel. God dealing with Israel in the present day. This is Israel's problem in the present day, Romans chapter 10. And God's dealing with Israel, or Israel's future prospect, in Romans chapter 11. And Paul, beloved brothers and sisters, placed these three chapters in his letter to the believers at Rome.

Romans which deals with the righteousness of God. Again, to remind you that when Paul wrote to the Romans in chapter 1 verse 16, he says, For I am not ashamed of the gospel of the Messiah, the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God unto salvation unto everyone that believers, to the Jew first and also unto the Greek. And then he says in verse 17 of Romans chapter 1, therein the righteousness of God revealed from faith unto faith as it is written and he is quoting the prophet Habakkuk chapter 4 chapter 2 and verse 4 the just shall live by faith and so the word righteousness the word sdaka in Hebrew mentioned about 30 times in the book of Romans and over 300 times in the whole word of.

The Hebrew word for righteousness is tzedakah and it's so important to realize because if someone is going to be right with God he must be declared righteous by God and in order to be declared righteous by God according to Genesis 15 verse 6 and Abraham believed and it was counted unto him for righteousness to be saved, to be redeemed, to be justified, one must believe. One must believe. But now we learn this important lesson in the book of Romans, that here we have specifically in Romans chapter 9, 10, and 11, Paul is explaining to the Romans Christians, to the believers from among the nations who became believers, They asked the question, well, how is it possible that if salvation is provided for all humanity, how come the people of God, namely the Jewish people, the chosen people of God, has not accepted this salvation of God, this righteousness that God provides for those who would believe?

How come they as a nation do not believe? Although, the church began by totally Jewish believers in the land of Israel who came to faith in the Lord Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah. So the question is, how come Israel, the chosen people of God, as a nation, do not believe in Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah? How come they are not as a nation? Believe and that's what Paul is seeking to explain to the Roman believers of the sovereignty of God in relationship to the Jewish people in relationship to the nation of Israel and that's what he does in Romans 9 10 and 11. Now this is very hard for some people to believe that although or I should say it's hard for some people to accept that although salvation come by faith to believe believe on the Lord Yeshua the Messiah and you shall be saved but in reality those that became believers they were already chosen in Christ or chosen in the Messiah before the foundation of the world and so Paul is helping us to understand this in Roman chapter 9 the truth of election.

Beloved brothers and sisters, God is a sovereign God and everyone that came to him, it was in his eternal plan that God will have a people for himself. Whether it is Israel, the nation, as his earthly people, or whether it is the ecclesia, the church, as his heavenly people, God in his wisdom and in his grace have elected a people for himself. Romans chapter 9, he is explaining why Israel the whole did not come to be saved as a whole now in this present day, and why only a remnant of the whole Israel are the ones that are today a people that belong to the Lord Yeshua the Messiah in this present age.

And if you remember, he began, and I have to elaborate on this, he said to them in verse 1 and 2 of chapter 9, I say the truth in Christ, in the Messiah, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Spirit that I have a great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart. For I could wish that I myself were cursed, verse 3, from the Messiah for my brethren, my kinsmen, according to the flesh. I have a burden for my people, according to the flesh, Israel. Sorrow in my heart for them and then in verses 4 and 5 he gave the information of who is these people who are Israelis pertaining the adoption the glory the covenant to them pertaining all these things the covenant the giving of the Lord the service the promises the father even the Mashiach himself who is God blessed forever came out of the nation of Israel he's telling to the Roman believers so then why all Israel is not a nation who believe So Paul had already begun, if you remember, in verses 6 onward, he had already begun to explain the sovereign election of God.

And you remember he said, he's explaining to them from verse 7 onward, 6 onward, he says really God's word didn't fail because he says to them in verse 6 that. That they are not all Israel which are of Israel there is all Israel the nation meaning all Hebrews, Israeli, Jewish people who are physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob but of all Israel you have the of Israel you have those that are part of the nation who are not only physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob but they are physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob they are also spiritually they've accepted the Mashiach Yeshua they are the Israel of God all Israel of Israel all Israel is all Jews all Israelis all Hebrews physical descended of them you have certain group who are believers like Shaul Paul Simon Peter and on and on and johanan John and James Yaakov all the early Jewish believers.

Who are today part of the ecclesia and all the Jewish believers over the generation who came to believe in Yeshua the Messiah. But all Israel who are physical descendants are still in unsaved condition. They are still living here on earth. They are not really the ones that have belonged to the Lord. They are waiting until the full day will come when all Israel will be saved. Romans 11 and verse 25 and 26. And so he's explaining the truth of election. And so in verses 7 to 9, he gave an illustration from Yishmael, the physical descendant of Abraham, and Yitzhak, the physical descendant of Abraham. God chose Yitzhak, he didn't choose Yishmael.

Both of them had the same father, but not the same mother. So God elected Yitzhak, and he didn't elect Yishmael. Then he narrows this even further in verses 10 to 13 and he gives a second illustration from Yaakov and Rivka. These two children was Yaakov and Esav. Both of them were sons of both Isaac and Rivka. God chose Yaakov. God did not choose Esav. Even before they came out of the belly of Rivka, in fact, before they did any good and evil, God said the elder shall serve the younger. Jacob have I love, I've chosen. Esau have I hated, I didn't choose Esau. It's not a matter of hating anybody, it's a matter of election.

Very hard for us to understand, but the Scripture clearly presents this before us. Then we continue on, if you remember, from verse 14 onward. In verse 14 to verse 29, the Apostle Paul explained Israel's rejection of the Mashiach. At his first coming. And then you remember in verse 14 we read, what shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? In other words, if God had already chosen the one and didn't choose the other, well maybe he's unrighteous, he's not fair. Someone might say, maybe you are saying that. And Paul said right away, notice that in the same verse 14, God forbid, may it never be. God is always righteous.

God is always holy and just and pure. Everything that he does, he is righteous. And if no one will be saved, we don't deserve it. It's the grace of God for any to be saved, for any to be redeemed. Because we are all by nature, we love darkness rather than light because of our sin nature. Say is their unrighteousness with God. And then Paul explained this in verse 14, 15, and 16, and 17, and 18, where the Lord, through the apostle Paul, explained it, God forbid, verse 14b, God has a right to dispense mercy to whom he wished he could dispense mercy. He is God. It is his own universe.

And so in verses 15 and 16 we read: "For he said to Moses, I will have mercy on those that I want to have mercy, and I will have compassion on those I want to have compassion. I am God." And they continue in verse 16: "So then it is not of him that will, or of him that run, but of him that showeth mercy." God show mercy, and it is all from God. Or from him who run, no one can work for his or her salvation. It is entirely the grace of God. And then if you remember, beloved brothers and sisters, we continue in verse 17 and 18, God does things according to his own purpose.

And in verse 17, he explained about Pharaoh. And you remember what we read in verse 17, all the way back to Exodus chapter 8 and 9 and so on. And if you remember, we read that even so, for this purpose, if I raise thee up, that I might show my power in thee, that my name might be declared throughout all the earth. Pharaoh, Pharaoh, was raised by God to become as an example that God will show his power through Pharaoh who rejected God. Willfully when God told him, "Let my people go," and Pao said, "I will not let your people go." Pharaoh first hardened his heart again and again, so eventually God hardened Pharaoh's heart judicially and showed his power through Pao.

Will is existing within the heart of man let my people go God said through Moshe to pao pao says i will not let your people go Exodus 9 and verse 16 it tells us this and i'm going to read Exodus 9 and verse 16 where we do read beloved brothers and sisters in verse 16 we read it actually even if if read earlier in Exodus 9 verse 7 the heart of Pharaoh was hardened and then verse 12 eventually the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh Pharaoh initially hardened his heart willfully and God judicially hardened Pharaoh's heart Now we've arrived to the answer really is coming to us in verse 19 where Paul says, where the question now comes when someone would ask, well, why does then he find fault?

He find fault, somebody might say, and who has resisted his will? So someone come and he says, okay, if God is the one that. Hardened Pharaoh's heart, and if God is the one who has chosen, elected Jacob and not Esau, elected Isaac and not Ishmael, and elected his own people, well then why does he then find fault in me if I don't accept him? Someone might say, specifically an unbeliever, so Paul does not give him an answer here. In verse 20 and 21, Paul gives him an illustration from the potter and the clay. And he says in verse 20, But nay, he says, O man, who are you?

Who art thou that reply against God? Shall the thing that form it say to him that form it, Why hast thou made me thus? Who are you to say this to God? Because some might say, Well, don't find fault in me. Come to you because you didn't choose me someone might say and by the way the truth of election is never preached in the gospel it is truth that we as believers shared with one another after we learned that in actuality we have been chosen in Christ before the foundation of the world but when we preach the gospel we don't tell people you will not come to the Lord unless the Lord have chosen you because we do not know whom the Lord have chosen What we do know that we are called to preach the message of the gospel and to say, repent.

The Messiah came. Yeshua came. Jesus the Messiah came. He died for your sin. Turn to him and accept him as your Lord and Savior. We don't know whom God has chosen. We are not God. We are just but servants. And we are responsible to preach the message of the gospel. We do not know. All things. He is sovereign. We are his servants. And so now the Shaul mentioned, "Who are you that speak against the Lord? Shall the thing that is formed say to him that formed it, 'Why hast thou made me this way?'" The question is asked, beloved brothers and sisters. And so he takes an example and that where we ended up in our meeting in our previous meeting has not the potter power over the clay of the same lump to make one vessel unto honor and another vessel unto dishonor he he take an illustration from the prophet Jeremiah that the pro that the potter went and he's forming he's making a vessel he take the mud he put it on the wheel and he's making a vessel one.

Vessel is marred he make it another vessel that it will be honorable for him just the same like the potter a making out of the clay a vessel God who is the creator make out of sinners who were dust and ashes he make a people for himself he deliver them save them forgive them and bring them to himself so now here we are in the next verses in verse 22 and 23 we learn another important lessons beloved brothers and sisters you see man by nature would not come to God if God did not drew him or her to himself you see let me put it this way man is not lost because he by God, men have hardened because of the fact that he is lost already.

Let me repeat it. People do not come to God because God hardened their hearts. No. People's hearts, our hearts by nature, are already hardened. This is why we don't come to God. Let me put it another way. We read in John 3:19, "Men love darkness rather than light." That means that we are sinners. We don't like to hear that word, but by nature we are sinners. That's why we need a Moshiach, a Savior. Have in the next verses, verse 22 and verse 23, Paul gives us an application of the illustration. You remember the illustration was that the potter can make any vessel that he wants out of the clay.

And he's telling us as the potter has not the potter power over the clay of the same lump to make one vessel unto and another unto dishonor. So now Paul gives us an application for that illustration of the potter and the clay. And so in verse 22, unbelievers by nature fitted themselves for destruction. As we read in verse 22, power known endured with much long suffering the vessels listen to this verse the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction now when you read this verse you have to be very careful because some people say that God is the one that fitted someone to go to destruction to hell but no people by nature fitted themselves because of their sin.

For destruction. And so it said at the end of verse 22 that they fitted themselves to destruction. Why? The human nature fit itself to eternal separation from God. And yet God in verse 22 showed his long suffering. Notice that he is enduring with much suffering these vessels, which fitted themselves unto destruction. Now it seems to be like a real dilemma. And Paul does not even ask us here to figure all this out in our own bright brain. No, he wants us to understand this. By nature headed out to eternal separation from the Lord. And unless the Lord is stopping some of us from falling down the cliff, none of us will come.

None of us will come. You see, he had already said this in Romans chapter 3. If you turn back to Romans chapter 3, and in Romans chapter 3 he quoting what David said in and in Psalm 51 notice what Paul quoting for what David said already in the in the in the Hebrew Scriptures long before Paul was alive even notice what he said in verse 10 as it is written you notice he always quoting the Word of God as it is written there is none righteous no no one verse 11 there is none that There is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way. They are all together become unprofitable.

There is none that doeth good, not even you, not even me, not even one. That's the human nature. And therefore, had God not chosen some, all will go to eternal separation. Now, you and I might not grasp it, but Paul here asks us to accept it and to understand the sovereignty of God. Our responsibility is to share the gospel. Man's responsibility, people's responsibility, is to accept the gospel. What's going on behind the scene in the power of the Spirit of God is all left for the Lord. He is sovereign. He is the potter, we are the clay. He is the creator, we are the created ones.

He is eternal. He is from above, we are from beneath. And so Paul is explaining this and he gives us this application. He says, really all unbelievers are by nature fitted themselves into destruction. And then verse 23, he continues, he says, On the other hand, believers were fit by God. They didn't fit themselves, but they were fit by God for glory, for salvation. Notice verse 23. He continues, and he says here in Romans chapter 9 and verse 23, he says, He had a fall prepared unto glory. So what we learn, beloved brothers and sisters, the application to the illustration of the pattern and the clay is presented before us simply this way.

The clay on its own is clay. Cannot on its own do anything. Do not want God. And had all of us were left for ourselves, none would come to God. No one seeketh after God by nature. That little baby that was born today, who is so cute and loving, he or she have inherited a sin nature. That's why God has to give a new nature, a divine nature, a new life. One must be born again. Accept a man be born again. He shall not enter or shall not see the kingdom of God. You must be born again. You must accept the Messiah, receive forgiveness on the basis of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus the Messiah, and then become a child of God.

You cannot do it on your own. In fact, Isaiah said to our people of old Israel, all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags. Even the good, the righteous things that come out of one, still before God is filthy rags. Why? Because God is holy and we are sinners. David said, "In sin did my mother conceive me." Isaiah said, "Woe is me, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people with unclean lips." Paul said, "I know that in me that is in my flesh dwelleth no good thing." And Peter said, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man." glory of God and the wages of sin is death and so God in his mercy every one of us who is a believer today can say it is the mercy of God that brought us to himself and so in relationship to the sovereignty of God in relationship to Israel in Romans chapter 9 the Apostle Shaul Paul explaining to the believers that Rome why all Israel hasn't come to faith in Yeshua the Messiah now already he's explaining to them because out of all Israel you have all of Israel out of all the flesh of the nation of Israel the physical descendants of all Israel you have the ones that are not only physical.

Spiritual let's put it this way and he will get to the Gentiles as well out of all the Gentiles of the world of the people of the from among the nation of the world there are only those that are chosen in the Messiah before the foundation of the world Ephesians 1:3-4 and they would come into eternal relationship and blessing with the Lord Romans 9 is so helpful to grasp the truth of election, although it's hard for us to grasp. But remember, my dear friend, you and I are only the clay. God is the potter. You and I are creation, created by God. God is the creator.

You and I are from beneath. And he is from above. When sin came into this world, in Genesis chapter 3, God said, the day that you will eat out of this fruit dying, you shall die. You will die spiritually first, separation from God. Then you will die physically, separation from the soul and the spirit, from the body. And while we do not know whom God have elected in eternity past, we preach the gospel. And while we preach the message of the grace of God through the person and the work of our Lord Jesus the Messiah, you and I are all responsible to respond to that gospel message.

To me a sinner but behind the scene it's entirely the work of the Holy Spirit of God so now notice that back to our chapter in Roman chapter 9 now in verse 20 and 21 Paul gives us an illustration of the potter and the clay secondly in verse 22 and 23 Paul gives us an application to the illustration of the potter and the clay Paul shows that this principle is also not only applied to Israel the nation but it's applied to the Gentiles as well that's why in verse 24 he says listen Romans 9 24 he says even us Paul writing to the Romans and he's saying us meaning you Gentiles believers and me Jewish believers even us whom he has called not.

Of the Jews only but also of the Gentiles it's not only applicable to the Jewish people to the nation of Israel when one will ask well how come the chosen people of Israel national chosen people of Israel how come they not all already believe that Yeshua is the Messiah how come they didn't accept him at his first coming and Paul explained it does not only apply to the all the off Israel from all Israel it's applied to the off Gentile from all the Gentiles in the same way you remember in Ephesians chapter 1 verse 3 blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah our Lord Jesus Christ who has blessed us with every spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ in Mashiach according as you have chosen us in him before the foundation of the world that we should be.

And without blame before him, in love, having predestinated us into adoption of children by Jesus Christ, by Yeshua HaMashiach, to himself according to his good pleasure or the good pleasure of his own will. It's God's will. Paul is explaining this. And so now in verse 25 to 29, He gives us the fourth response to those that will ask the question, "Well, why does then he find fault?" Well, we read: Number one, an illustration from the pot on the clay. Number two, an application to this illustration. Number three, this principle applies not only to Israel, people, it's applied to the Gentiles as well. Election is in the mind and the plan of God.

You see, when Israel was chosen as a nation to be a vessel, a nation for God, Israel was also chosen because of God's election, God's will. He said to them, for thou art a holy people, Deuteronomy 7 verse 6. You are holy people or set apart people unto the Lord thy God. The Lord thy God has chosen thee to be a special people, a peculiar people. The Hebrew word is Am Segula. He chosen unto himself above all the people that are upon the face of this earth. The Lord has not set his love upon you nor choose you because you are more in number than any. People, for you were fewest of all people, but because the Lord loved you, and because he would keep his oath which you have sworn unto your fathers, has the Lord brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you out of the house of bondage from the hand of Pharaoh the king of Egypt.

God, in his sovereign will, have elected Israel to be his earthly people. But out of all Israel, you always have the awe of Israel. And it was happening. It happened throughout the history of our people, of the nation of Israel. You always have the physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Out of all the physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, you have this element of those who were much more than just physical descendants. They also responded to their God, to the God of their fathers, and loved Him, and lived for Him, and repented before Him, and confessed their sins before Him, and offered the sacrifices according to His will, repenting and confessing their sins, looking forward for the coming of the Messiah so now the fourth answer is found in verses 25 to 29 and you notice what he does in verse 25 to verse 29 he's always using the Hebrew Scriptures remember that Paul Shaul all the Romans they had no other word of God except the Tanakh the Hebrew Scripture so every time the the apostles, these Jewish apostles who believed on the Lord Jesus the Messiah in the first century, whenever they mentioned something, they always based it upon the Scriptures, the Tanakh, the Hebrew Scriptures.

Because that's the only word of God that they had. The new covenant was not yet written. So Paul is quoting, it's so beautiful, the prophet Hosea. And he's quoting the prophet Isaiah. In verses 25 and 26, he's quoting Hosea. In verses 27 to 29, he's quoting Isaiah, the prophet. Now notice, let me read verse 25 and 26. Were not beloved and it shall come to pass that in the place where it was said unto them this is unto Israel ye are not my people there shall they be called the children of the living God now if you turn with me for a moment to the prophet Hosea I want you to notice something very interesting because Hosea's life became as a living parable God told Hosea to do something that is very unusual.

Because of the spiritual condition of Israel, and Israel departed during the days of Hosea sometime around 800 BC, the northern kingdom of Israel departed from the Lord. And they've gone so far astray from the Lord that the Lord was ready to judge them. 21 BC he sent the Assyrian to take the ten northern kingdom into Assyria and to disperse the northern ten tribes of Israel among the Gentile nations of the world. So in order to illustrate that God is showing to Israel through Hosea who became like a living parabola, living mashal, living example of the disobedience of the nation of Israel to their husband Jehovah the Lord and so notice what we read first of all we read in chapter a first of all go to chapter 2 with me and in chapter 2 and verse 23 we read Hosea chapter 2 and verse 23 he says and I will saw her notice that unto me in the earth and I will have In Hosea chapter 2 and verse 23, Paul makes a reference to it in Romans chapter 9.

Verses verse 25 he says he says you know there I will call them my people which were not my people and her beloved which were not beloved in other words what God is saying through Paul is Israel will come to a point in history when God will declare them lo amin not my people for a season in other words he will deal with them in a way that he will scatter them practically he will scatter them he will discipline them and he will allow them to experience what it meant for for them to disobey the Lord and to reject him in their in their time when they were in the land now turn with me to chapter one and you notice in chapter one it is very interesting because in chapter one he actually called Israel "not my people" for a certain season.

And he dispersed them practically, positionally, to his people. He watched over them all the time. But notice what we read in verse 2. I'm reading Hosea chapter 1 verse 2, the beginning of the word of the Lord by Hosea. Of Hordam, for the land has committed a great Hordam departing from the Lord. God is saying to Hosea, Hosea, I want you to go and to marry a woman that is prostitute. Why? Because the land of Israel, the people of Israel, committed great prostitution. They follow after God. They lived away from God. And so, Hosea, I want you to be a living, example, a living parable, a living mashal in Hebrew to show what happened with my relationship with my people.

So go get married. A woman that is a prostitute. So verse 3 says, So he went and he took Gomer, the daughter of Diblaim, which conceived and bare him a son. Did he obeyed the Lord he became that living parable and he married a woman that was a prostitute which God would have never normally asked for anyone to do a woman from among the nations of the world and from the Gentiles and then prostitute you're going to marry her and have family with her what kind of a thing it is but the Lord is teaching a lesson to Israel look Israel what happened between you my wife And I your husband and our relationship with one another have chosen you for myself.

Look what you have done. And so Gomer conceived and bare a son to Hoshea. Verse 4 says, And the Lord said unto him, Call his name Jezra'el, Yizra'el. And the word Yizra'el means, The Lord will sow. No, God will scatter and will sow. The son of Gomer, the son of Hoshea, became a type and a condition of Israel that God will sow and scattered all over. He will sow them all over the nations of the world. And then we read, will cause to seize the kingdom of the house of Israel you see I'm going to disperse Israel why verse 5 and it shall come to pass in that day that I will break the bow of Israel Israel in the valley of Jezreel I'm not going to give Israel any more strength I will scatter them among the nations secondly notice that verse 6 this gomer conceived again and she bear a daughter and God said unto him you call her name lo ruchama lo ruchama simply means not pitied lo rachamim rachamim means mercy not pitied and then he said in verse 6 for i will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel but i will utterly take them away.

Now your second child will be called not pitied i'm not gonna have pity upon my people for a season and i will utterly take them away i will scatter them and i will have no pity on them It says in verse 7, but I will have mercy upon the house of Judah. Judah was still in the south, and I will save them by the Lord their God, and I will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen. In other words, the southern kingdom was still maintained and protected by the Lord, but the northern kingdom was going to be scattered and was going to have no pity from the Lord.

Then quickly, beloved brothers and sisters, verse 8 and 9, she conceived again. Gomer, the prostitute wife of Hosea, again conceived. Verse 8 and 9. Now when she had weaned Lo Ruchamah, she conceived and bare a son. Verse 9 says, then said God, call his name Lo Ami. Loami simply means not my people. Loami, not my people. For you are not my people and I will not be your God. You see what God is saying now to the northern kingdom of Israel? I will sow you among the heathen. I will have no mercy on you. And you will not be my people. This is practically in a condition of not my people, although they were his people.

And I will be declaring you to be lo'ami, not my people. Why? It says, verse 9 at the end, for ye are not my people and I will not be your God. In other words, God has placed Israel in a position and a condition of number one, Israel. All over. Number two, no mercy upon them. And number three, not my people. And why is it? Because Israel have violated the word of the Lord. And here is the word that is important for us to understand. That what Paul is saying in Romans chapter 9 in verse 25 and 26, He's applying this and he's saying, look what's happening here. Israel in past history have already, because of their disobedience, were scattered and did not experience the mercy of God and were considered to be a sum of the nations around the world because he called them lo'ami, not my people.

Of course, again, we always have to distinguish. In the plan and the program of God, Israel always is His people. But they were in a state of judgment and discipline by God. No wonder, you know, we can see that since 721 BC until today, the ten tribes of Israel are scattered abroad and are not yet returned to the Lord. That will happen. Soon and all Israel shall be saved at the end of the tribulation according to Romans 11 and 25 and 26 and of course according to the promises that we have in the Hebrew Scriptures but you can see that it's still so real even today. The scattering of the nation of Israel, yet the hand of God protecting them and watching over them and ultimately in his program to restore them.

Notice he continues here and I I don't want us to neglect to read verse 10 of Hosea chapter 1. Yet, he says, although Israel will be under the condition of Jezreel, Loruchama, and Loami, sown by God in among the nations, not pitied, and not my people, yet, verse 10 tells us, yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea. Which cannot be measured, nor numbered, for it shall come to pass in the place where it shall be said unto them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said unto them, Ye are the sons of the living God. Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be gathered together and appoint themselves one head.

Messiah in the future day and they shall come up out of the land therefore great shall be the day of Jezreel in other words there is a promise of the restoration of the national restoration of Israel but you see Shaul Paul is explaining here beloved brothers and sisters that he applies this to the past history that those that are the people of God will be in the condition of lo ami not my people for the season which will bring about an ultimate restoration and eventually they will be called the people of God ami my people and so in a sense it's applied also to the Gentiles because the Gentiles were not my people and those of us that have turned to him those from among the nation that have.

The Lord Jesus the Messiah they became the people of God chosen in the Messiah before the foundation of the world although all the nation of Israel the physical descendants of Abraham Isaac and Jacob are waiting the day when there will be national regeneration in the future day now quickly back to our chapter in Romans chapter 9 And in Romans chapter 9 verse 27, 28, and 29, Shaul Paul is pointing to Israel a preservation because of God's mercy. And he says, although now not all Israel is a redeemed nation because of the fact that they are under the disciplinary act of God because of their violation of the word of God and the rejection of Yeshua, In the next verses, verse 27, 28, and 29, he says, Isaiah also crieth concerning Israel, though the number of the children of Israel be at the sand of the sea.

Isaiah said, yet, notice that, yet a remnant shall be saved. He is quoting Isaiah chapter 10, verse 22 and 23. Jacob, Hebrews, Israelis, Jewish, as the sand of the sea, yet the remnant shall be saved. It is always the elected that are eternally in a relationship with God. It was always in the past this way, and then it is always in the present. It's the same principle. Again, God have chosen Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the descendants, but out of the descendants, as he mentioned in the beginning of Romans chapter 1, not all Israel are of Israel. Not all the physical descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are physical and spiritual people who belong to the Lord.

And 29 and i will close with that in verse 28 and verse 29 we do read beloved brothers and sisters for he will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness because a short work will be a short work will the Lord make upon the earth and as Isaiah had said before except the Lord of tsevaot the word tsevaot means the armies the host except the Lord of host had left us a seed, we had been a Sodom and had been made like Amora or Gamora. If the Lord had not preserved us a seed, we would be destroyed just like Sodom and Gamora. In other words, beloved brothers and sisters, Paul is emphasizing here the truth of election.

The truth of the sovereignty of God. And in the context of Romans chapter 9, it is the sovereignty of God in relationship to the nation of Israel. And so, if in verses 14 to 18, Paul asked the question, as we have in verse 14, with God he gave us an answer in verses 14 15 to 18 no God forbid God has a right to dispense his grace to whomsoever he will and God does things according to his own purpose then the second question was asked in verse 19 is there a why God then find faults in those who do not believe? Well, Paul gave us an answer in verses 19 to 29, these fourfold answers.

First of all, the illustration of the potter and the clay. Secondly, the application to the illustration in verses 22 to 23. Then Paul shows us the principle that it's applied also to the Gentile world. And finally, he gives us a conclusion using the Hebrew. To show us that it happened in past history, just as it's happened today. It happened in the past when God called Israel lo ami, temporarily, in discipline, until they are going to be called my people, ami. He will restore them. It happened in the past. He did restore them back to the land. He scattered them again, and he restored them back to the land.

And it will take place in the future. When Israel will ultimately will be restored back to the land but at that time at the end of the tribulation there will be a national restoration of the nation of Israel and as Paul says in Roman 11 verse 25 and 26 then after they will trust in Yeshua the Messiah all Israel that survived the tribulation period will be saved and enter into a Asiatic kingdom. Well this is for us for today we still have a few more verses in chapter 9 and in our next meeting we'll continue into chapter 10 and we will see the actual problem that Israel have today and why Israel today is still in a state of unbelief while many many many Jewish people come yet to faith in the Lord Yeshua Jesus the Messiah even.

Today during these days of the assembly's age. Well, my dear friend, we will finish now in prayer and we will continue, Lord willing, next time with Romans chapter 10. And so, Father, bless your word. Help us to understand your sovereignty and that it is all from thee, our God and our Father. Bless your word, we pray, for we ask it in Yeshua, in Jesus' name. Amen and Amen. God bless you, my dear friend. Until the next time, we say, Shalom, Shalom. Bye-bye.
