Called to Walk in Newness of Life

From Chapter 6:1-5 of the study of the Book of Romans (אֶל־הָרוֹמִיִּים), Brother Gideon Levytam introduces the third section of the Book of Romans, which deals with the subject of “sanctification.” Paul exhorts the Roman believers and all true believers in Yeshua the Messiah, to understand that although the forgiveness of sins is freely given as a gift from God through Jesus the Messiah and His atoning sacrifice, they must also remember that now, they belong to God, and as believers, they are called to walk in newness of life, a life that honours God and the Lord Yeshua the Messiah.

Well, shalom everyone. We want to welcome you to the Bible classes of the Holy Scriptures in Israel, where the Word of God is being presented from a first century Hebrew messianic perspective. We thank the Lord for the privilege to be under the sound of the Word, for a blessing to us all. We are starting in the book of Romans in Romans chapter 6 now and hopefully you have the the Scripture in your hand the Bible in your hand please open it we will ask the Lord to bless the meeting and we will continue with the reading of Romans chapter 6. So Abba our Father bless your word we pray we thank you for the book of Romans and the many lessons that we learn from this book Bless your word to us all, we pray, for we ask it in Yeshua, in Jesus' name.

Amen. Amen. So please turn with me, beloved friends and dear brothers and sisters, to Romans chapter 6. And I would like to read for this meeting today the first 10 verses of Romans chapter 6. Verse 1, the apostle Paul, Shaul Paul, continues as he writes this letter to the Roman believers and he's saying to them, what shall we say then? What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? He says, God forbid. How shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein? "Know ye know that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach, were baptized into His death, therefore we are buried with Him by baptism into death, that like as Christ, as Mashiach, was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, we also should walk in newness of life." For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, with Mashiach, we believe that we shall also live with him, knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dieth no more, death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once. But in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. And I will stop here, dear brothers and sisters, with the first 10 verses of the book of Romans and in the sixth chapter.

It is so precious to our hearts when the Lord, by the Spirit of God, help us to understand His Word. Shaul Paul's writings are not easy to be understood. In fact, Peter wrote concerning him that some of his writings, Paul's writings, are hard to be understood. Nevertheless, with the help of Ruach Ha'Elohim, with the help of the Holy Spirit of God, he's able to assist us and to aid us to understand the Word of God so we will be able to be better instructed and helped in our walk here in this world. Now we begin, beloved brothers and sisters, when we read Romans chapter 6 verses 1 to 10, we begin with the study of the third section of the book of Romans.

Book of Romans the book of Romans is divided into five sections which really began in English with the letter s sin salvation sanctification sovereignty and service the five sections that the whole book of Roman is divided it is clearly presented before us as we are studying this together sin salvation, sanctification, sovereignty, and service. The first three chapters from Romans 1:1 to Romans 3:20, the apostle Shaul Paul presented before the Romans the universal guilt of men. The question and the truth of sin is being presented before the Romans. That we are all guilty before God and therefore everyone if we would enter into a court of God we have we are declared guilty sinners by a holy and righteous God then in Romans chapter 3 from verse 21 to chapter 5 in verse 21 the apostle Paul presented the truth of salvation The truth of the fact that God had provided salvation for all humanity if they will only trust in the person of the Messiah Yeshua, God the Son who became a man and died for our sins.

And so the truth of salvation provided by God had been taught from Romans chapter 3 verse 21 to chapter 5 and verse 21 to the end of the fifth chapter and we learn that we have been justified. Justification had been explained. Justification has been presented in Abraham's life. The basis of our justification is the work of the Messiah and the blessing that accompany our justification had been presented both in Romans chapter 5 verses 1 to 21. Justification explained, justification presented in Abraham's life, the blessing that accompanies justification, and the basis of our justification we have already learned in the second section of the presentation of the Apostle Paul in the book of Romans.

Salvation. Salvation produced for the believer justification. Work of our Lord Jesus Christ, our Lord Yeshua HaMashiach. Now that we have covered these first important truths that the Apostle Paul presented before the Romans, now we are entering into the third section, and that third section, beloved brothers and sisters, Romans chapter 6 verses 1 to 10, 1 to 11, we have the truth of the sanctification of believers now those of us that have already have accepted the Lord Jesus the Messiah we have been declared just before God our sins had been paid for by the Lord Yeshua Jesus the Messiah and because we have trusted in him we have been declared just before God but although we are justified and just and and declared to be justified yet we are still living here in this world although we are suitable to now to enter into the presence of God the moment we have accepted the Lord Jesus the Messiah yet we live here in this world and as we live here in this world we learn very quickly that although we are called saints holy set apart for God although we are justified.

By God on the basis of our faith in the Lord Jesus the Messiah yet we learn very quickly that our life oftentimes here in this world a failure coming to our life sin easily beset us and the apostle Paul is now seeking to encourage the believers at Rome and you and I today with the truth of the need of sanctification This is practical daily sanctification in the life of the believer. The word sanctified comes from the word holy or hallowed. In Hebrew we call it mekudashim or to live life that is kdoshim, kadosh, holy. You remember what God said to the people of Israel in the book of Leviticus?

Be ye holy. Why? Because I am holy. Life apart for me because I am a holy God that cannot look upon sin and therefore hallowed yourself in a practical way to please me here in this world God said it to Israel God is saying this to you and I as well and therefore in these chapters chapter 6 and 7 and 8 the theme of justification and now sanctification is presented here before the believers. That means that not only that we are now to know that we have been declared just before God but we are to live a life that is hallowed, a life that is holy, a life that is separate from sin.

Now again you will notice this as we are studying this interesting chapter 6 and then later on 7 and ultimately chapter 8 in this portion of the Scripture, we will learn that the Apostle Paul is seeking to encourage Christians or believers in Jesus the Messiah to live a separated life from sin and to live a separated life unto God and to live a life that is holy, that is set apart for the Lord. Now, some say that once we have become justified, some say that now that we became justified, we do not need anymore to worry about sin. Because God has forgiven our sins, the Lord Jesus paid for our sins, and therefore we can just carry on to sin and not to worry about it.

Justified we are declared just by God we are reckoned as just as holy by God because of what the Lord Jesus the Messiah and have done for us in our faith in him and so here is where the apostle Paul is now entering into the section of Scripture that instructing believers in in these present day to realize that we cannot live the way we used to live the life before we became believers in the Lord Jesus the Messiah and I want you for a moment to turn to the book of Jude for a moment in the book of Yehuda Jude in Jude chapter well Jude has only one chapter but this one verse Jude verse 4 notice that already in the early days of the church age there was this issue of some that in and they were saying notice that Jude and I'll read verse 4 for there are certain men crept in unaware who were before of old ordained to this condemnation ordained themselves to this condemnation ungodly men turning the grace of God into lasciviousness and.

Deny the holy Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ in other words these men that have crept in already in the early days of the church of the assembly and these men these certain men they crept in and what they were doing they notice that it says here that they are turning these men turned the grace of God into lasciviousness and they are denying the notice the only Lord God and our Lord Jesus Christ in other words they were denying the fact that God's people now because we belong to the Lord we are no longer to live the way we used to live before we became believers in the Lord Yeshua Jesus the Messiah that have already happened in the first century and it is continue on beloved brothers and sisters throughout the days in which you and I live in today well it was actually historically in.

Israel's day, even before Israel's day, earlier days, there were always those that take, you might say, that creep in and instructing things that are dishonoring unto the Lord. Well, it happened in the earlier days. Judah, Jude, wrote about this. And Paul is now instructing the believers to understand what happened to them when they have turned to the Lord. And how believers need to live a sanctified life, to seek to desire, though we fail so much, but to seek to desire to live a life that is set apart for the Lord. So I would like you to notice now, in these three chapters, including chapter 6, the Apostle Paul is answering to some questions that may arise.

Now notice that. There are actually four questions that you find out that are found here in those three chapters. Let me just give you those questions. The first one is found in Romans 6 and verse 1. What shall we say? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? That's the first question that he will have to answer to. And secondly, notice that in verse 15. What then? Here's another question. Under grace that's the second question that may rise by some and Paul will seek to answer that here the third question in roma chapter 7 and verse 7 what shall we say then is the law sin someone might ask and this is the third question that may be asked and then in chapter 8 notice this the fourth question in verse 31 we read what shall we say then to these things?

Notice there are four questions that Apostle Paul put here in this letter as he is communicating now with the believers at Rome. What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? What shall we say or what then? Shall we sin because we are not under the law but under grace? Shall we then say is the law sin and then Roman 8 in verse 31 what shall we say then to these things so as we are going to look over these three chapters beloved brothers and sisters which deals with the the need to to live a sanctified life for the believers the theme of sanctification, mekudashim, hitkajut, as we say this in Hebrew, the apostle will specifically deal with these questions.

So in the first 10 verses, where we are actually in the first 14 verses of Romans chapter 6, the apostle Paul will answer to the question that if God is so gracious, and he provided grace for those that are sinners. So if grace abounds when we sin, so then let us continue sinning. That's the question that one may ask. In fact, go back to chapter 5 for a moment. 21 there as we concluded the fifth chapter you remember what it says moreover the law entered that the offense might abound in other words God gave the law you remember it was kind of a difficult statement to say well God gave the law why so the sin the offense might abound you see if you don't have law then it's not as obvious of the wrong that we are doing but when we have a law don't step of the grass and we step on the grass, we violated the law.

Drive a certain speed limit and we passed over. When you have a law and sign, then we violated the law. But if you don't have a sign, you not violate you. At least it doesn't appear that you have done anything wrong. You see? So in chapter 5 we concluded, well, the law entered that offense might abound, but where sin abound, grace did much more abound. Verse 21 said, But as sin has reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord, by Yeshua HaMashiach Adonainu. So what he's really saying, that the more sin abound, then grace did much more abound.

6 and verse 1 by the question by saying what shall we say then brothers and sisters well what shall we say then well if if sin abound and grace did much more abound then verse 6b said shall we then continue in sin that grace may abound in other words here we are we came to faith in the Lord Jesus the Lord Yeshua HaMashiach we have accepted accepted him as our Lord and Savior we have entered into a relationship with him we are forgiven we are justified our salvation is secure the blood of Jesus Christ God's son cleanses us from all sin God have accepted us in a beloved and therefore well here if someone might ask what shall we say then shall we continue in sin that grace may abound well if so much grace was extended to us by sinning well if we continue on living a life of sin God will extend more grace and more.

Grace and more chesed and more chesed and you see what Paul is saying here beloved brothers and sisters so notice that in the first five verses of Roman chapter 6 the apostle Paul is really answering to this question and he's emphasizing specifically in the first five verses that every believer need to know that he or she has already died to sin. Positionally, every believer in the Lord Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah, have already died to sin. This is verses 1 to 5. And we need to know it. In verses 6 to 10, the apostle Shaul Paul will emphasize the truth that every believer needs to know that he or she should not serve sin.

That's what he's emphasizing, and that's what he's dealing here with the first 10 verses of this interesting sixth chapter of the book of Romans. Another thing here that are found here in these verses, actually in the whole sixth chapter. You notice there are three words that are prominent here in this sixth chapter. The first word is the word to know or knowing. Notice verse 3, know ye not. Verse 6, knowing this. Verse 9, knowing that Christ. Notice the word knowing. This knowing has to do with our mind, with our knowledge. To know in our mind. Then you notice the second word that is mentioned here, that is also prominent here, is found in verse 11.

We will not get to it now. But the second word is reckoning. Reckon. Or considerate. Reckon it. Take it to an account. So the first word is knowing. Mentioned verse 3, verse 6, and verse 9. The second word is reckon. And the third word that is found here is the word, and by the way, the word for reckon has to do with the heart. Knowing has to do with the mind. Reckoning has to do with the heart. Verse 13 you have the third word is the word yielding yield neither yield your members as instrument of unrighteousness again unto sin but yield yourselves unto God and the word the word yield is linked with our will so knowing has to do with the head reckoning has to do with heart and yielding has to do with our will this is very interesting the apostle Paul is a theologian he is a precise in his a presentation of the truth of the word of God and because he was a a call by the Lord Jesus the Messiah he was chosen by him to be a vessel to present the message of the gospel specifically to the uncircumcision and also to the nation of Israel as we read of it in Acts chapter 9 and to suffer for the name of the Lord remember he was a parush a Pharisee was a student of the Tanakh of the Torah a Pharisee of Pharisees parush me ha-prushim he's a student of God's Word and he's presenting thing systematically and in.

Order and in a clear way to help us understand, even though, as we have already read from Peter, some of his writings are hard to be understood, but the Spirit of God is able to help us to understand. And so notice this, beloved brothers and sisters. I'm rereading verse 1 once again. Sin that grace may abound he's challenging the the believers at Rome he's saying well the Lord have forgiven us his grace abound more and more the more we sinned his grace have been extended to us far more and far more great as we read here a grace did much more abound so Paul says someone might say what shall we say that should we continue in sin somebody might say well i'm a believer i'm forgiven i can live in sin so God can extend more grace to me and that's why notice that the apostle Paul continue in verse 2 and he says God forbid some translations say may it never be perish the thought in the Greek is coming to one word no or not No, of course not.

Of course not he's saying, he's answering. He says, shall we continue in sin that grace may about? The answer is simply no. God forbid. Not so. He says, how shall we, notice, how shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein? Now, it really should be read in such a way. Died to sin live any longer therein in other words we have already died to sin verse 2 the apostle Paul emphasized the truth that the believer has already died to sin when he have come to faith in the person and the work of our Lord Jesus the Messiah positionally he has already died to sin Now, some verses I need to connect with it, and I would like to do so.

Just turn to Romans chapter 8 for a moment. Romans chapter 8 and verse 1 and 2 tells us, There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, in the Messiah Yeshua. There is a few other words there that belong to the words below, to the verse further down in verse 4, but then it says in verse 2, In other words, the believer positionally have already made free from the law of sin and death. The moment he or she have trusted in the Lord Jesus the Messiah. Notice that I'm reading this again. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus had made me free from the law of sin and the law of death.

The moment we have accepted the Lord Jesus, we are already belonging to him and positionally he has made us free from the law of sin. Turn with me to 2 Corinthians. Chapter 5. And then I'm reading from verse 14 and 15. Second Corinthians, chapter 5, verses 14 and 15. There the Apostle Paul said to the Corinthians, notice that for the love of Christ constrained, I read verse 14, for the love of Christ constrained us because with us judge that if one died for all, this is the Lord, verse 15 says so when the Lord Jesus the Messiah died for us all he died for us all in order that we are alive the believers that live should not hand forth live anymore to themselves in sin but to live unto the one and for the one who died for them and rose again for the for the person of the Lord Jesus who died for us here's another verse beloved brothers and sisters in Colossians turn to Colossians chapter 3 and there just to read another few verses just to help us to understand.

It a little bit better in Colossians chapter 3 verses 1 2 and 3 we do read these words listen he's writing to the Corinthians he's writing to the Romans he's writing to the Colossians this is the apostle Paul and he's giving them instruction to help them to understand their position in Christ in Mashiach he said if he then or since he then this is Now notice verse 3. Or let's read it this way. You see, beloved brothers and sisters, the lesson, is tremendous in other words what happened beloved brothers and sisters when we came to know the Lord when we have accepted Yeshua Jesus as our Lord and our Savior we have died when he died when the Lord Jesus the Messiah was on that Roman cross some two thousand years ago and he there paid for the sin of this world all that have come to accept.

Him as their Lord and Savior died with him positionally even though we are still alive you see when he died when the Lord Jesus the Messiah died you and i died although he died two thousand years ago and we just accepted him a few years ago and some will come to trust in him today perhaps as the word of God is being presented right now. The moment a person has acknowledged that he or she are sinners and have acknowledged the person and the work of the Lord, Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah, they died when he died. They have died in him because he died for sin.

And you see, that is what the apostle is emphasizing here in these first few verses. Verse 1, the question might be asked by someone, shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Then the answer is no, God forbid. How shall we that have died to sin live any longer therein? Now, of course, you and I know very well that we still do sin. We have acknowledged that we are sinners and embrace the person of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, accepted him as our Lord and our Savior, received a new life, received forgiveness, become born again, born of the Spirit of God. That moment we die to sin.

We die to this old sinful nature. God looks at us today. In our sin nature he looks at us and he sees Mashiach Christ Christos the anointed one the Messiah himself that's what Paul is seeking to explain to the believers in Rome and then in the next verses in verses 3 and 4 and 5 of Romans chapter 6 now the apostle Paul presents an illustration used the baptism to illustrate the union that every believer has with the Lord Jesus the Messiah and so notice that this is very interesting because we have to understand in verse 3 he says know ye not that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized unto his death now pause with me for a moment you don't see here any water whatsoever he's not speaking here about water baptism at all the word baptizo in the Greek and in Hebrew has to do much more than just to do with water baptism though water baptism is a identification with the Lord after a person become a believer but you.

You don't see here any water because he doesn't speak here about water baptism. And why it is so important to understand that there are many, many, many people who were baptized with water and many, many, many babies who were baptized with water, but they are not born again. They not belong to the Lord. Water baptism doesn't save but identification with the person and the work of our Lord Jesus. Messiah, confession of sins, bring someone into a relationship with the Lord. And so you notice this, what he's saying here, he says, don't you know, here's the first time that he used the word to know. Know ye not, brothers and sisters of the Roman assembly, don't you know that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized unto his death?

And you see what happened The word baptizo, to be dipped into or placed into, it is used a few times in the Word of God. You see, there is a water baptism. It's not here, of course. There is a Spirit baptism that put us into the body of Christ in 1 Corinthians 12, verse 13. And here the context is put into Christ. You notice the word here. Jesus Christ into Yeshua the Messiah were baptized unto his death. In other words, by accepting the Lord Jesus the Messiah as our Lord and Savior, identifying with him in his death, receiving from him forgiveness of sins, we now have been identified or baptized into his death.

That's what he's saying here in verse 3. He uses the illustration of baptism to show the believers at Rome that the believer is united with Christ by the Spirit of God. Again, I just go for a moment to 1 Corinthians 12 with me, 1 Corinthians 12, and then we have in verse 13, 1 Corinthians 12 and verse 13, For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body. Now again, there is a difference between Romans 6 and verse 3 and 1 Corinthians 12 and verse 13. Why? Because in 1 Corinthians 12, 13, the apostle emphasized that we were all put into by the Spirit of God into one body of all believers. In Romans 6 and verse 3, the baptism applied to being identified with the death of our Lord Jesus.

We have been baptized unto Him, unto Christ, unto Messiah, unto Jesus Christ, unto Yeshua the Messiah. We are belonging to Him. And that's why he uses this expression here, death we have been identified the moment we've accepted the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are identified with him in his death and therefore he says how can we what shall you know how shall we we that are living in sin anymore if don't you know that there's many of us that have been baptized into been baptized into his death we are now when he died we died now i know it's a very difficult thing to grasp but before God as far as God is concerned we are seen as we are in Christ in Mashiach that's why you find the expression many times in fact i want you to go to a.

Verse in 2nd Corinthians this time and in chapter 5 2nd Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 17 2nd Corinthians 5 and verse 17 tells us therefore if any man be in Christ in Mashiach he is a new creation all things are passed away behold all things are become new we are in Christ in Messiah And so we have been baptized, not water now, he's not speaking about water, we have been placed into his death. He died, we have accepted him, he died for the sin of this world, we have accepted him, received forgiveness of sins, and we died with him. Now it's hard to grasp it, but this is the position of every true believer.

As far as God is looking at the believer in the Lord Jesus the Messiah. But we are still here in this world. And because we are still here in this world, we still have this old sin nature within us. Even though we are a new creation, we have a new nature, the divine nature, the Holy Spirit of God, but we still have the old nature and we fail here and sin easily beset us here in this world. 6 7 and 8 of the book of Romans is the a truth of sanctification to seek to live a godly life a set apart life for the Lord here in this world with the help of the Spirit of God so notice he continue here and in verse now to to be baptized literally mean baptized into Christ literally mean to be put into to be put under and to be, you might say, put into Christ.

We belong to him, and we are no longer to live under the guidance and the power of the old nature, of the same nature. So notice, to be baptized or baptism is figurative, and it simply means to be identified with. With Christ, with the Mashiach. There are some more verses that need to be read together. If you please turn with me to Galatians chapter 2. Galatians chapter 2, just to help us to understand. Here the Apostle Paul said in Galatians chapter 2 and verse 20, very interesting verse Paul is writing of himself. He says, I am crucified with Christ. In other words, I died. With the Mashiach. Nevertheless, I live.

Yet not I, but Christ the Messiah live in me. And the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by the faith of the Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me, Shaul Paul is saying. I am crucified or I have been crucified. I have died with the Mashiach, with Christ. And yet, nevertheless, I live. It's like a dilemma, isn't it? But yet the truth is important to understand. Positionally, when we have accepted the Lord, when He died, you and I died. As far as God is concerned, this old sin nature of ours is dead. God has no value in it whatsoever, because with this old sinful nature that we have inherited when we were born, we have committed every sin upon the face of this earth.

With this old nature, we have dishonored the Lord. I am crucified with Christ, Paul says, with the Mashiach. Nevertheless, I live, yet not I, but Christ. Liveth in me turn to Ephesians chapter 2 in Ephesians chapter 2 verses 4 5 and 6 the apostle Paul reminded the Ephesians in verses 4 5 and 6 he says to them but God but God who is rich in mercy notice that but God who is rich in mercy for the great love with which he had loved us even when we were dead us you have made us alive together with Christ by grace i is saved and as he has raised us up together and made us to sit together in heavenly or in heavenly places in Christ Jesus you see the moment we have acknowledged and we have accepted the person of our Lord Yeshua Jesus the Messiah we are now beloved brothers and sisters belong to him once and for all and we are seen.

In Mashiach, in Christ, positionally. Let me read you another verse that we should read. And if you notice now, beloved brothers and sisters, as we are just moving along with this, and I want to make a reference to that. If you notice Romans 6, so he says in verse 3, Verse 4 now, he continues, he says, therefore, he says, we are buried with him by baptism. And again, it's not here a water baptism. It is a matter of identification. We are buried with him by baptism, meaning identification with him, by identified with him into death. Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

In other words, Paul is emphasizing here to the Corinthians, in this case to the Romans and elsewhere to the Corinthians and the Galatians, he's emphasizing the fact that the moment that we have accepted the Lord, died with him in order that as the Messiah, as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we, this is the believers, we should walk now differently in newness of life. Not the way we used to live in the past, but to seek to live in newness of life. This is the life that is a resurrection life. We are to live a life that is pleasing to the Lord with the power of the Spirit of God, leading us to live this resurrection life.

Notice it says here in verse 4, for our justification. Just as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so, also we should walk in newness of life. You see, beloved brothers and sisters, what happened here is when we have come to faith in the Lord Jesus the Messiah, we now belong to Him. Everything is new. Relationship with God we have a new life we are new creation second Corinthians 5:17 positionally in fact it is very very interesting that you will notice for example if you turn to Ephesians 4 there the apostle will tell the Ephesians this notice that Ephesians chapter 4 He will speak to the Ephesians concerning the new men.

Ephesians 4 and verse 24. Listen to this. He says in verse 24, that ye put on the new men. The new men. 2 Corinthians 5.17, new creation. Everything is new. Moment we came to faith in the person of our Lord Jesus the Messiah we are new creation we have a new nature we are to live life in the power of the new man in fact we have entered into a new covenant when our people of Israel will come to faith in the Messiah in a future day verse 36 he said that he will put a new heart in them and a new spirit he will place in them. Israel will be a new nation that is born again.

They will enter into the new covenant that God made with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. In fact they will sing a new song. Psalm 40 and verse 3 said I will a new song and in a future day when we are going to be with the Lord Revelation 2 and verse 17 he will give us a new name everything is new new covenant new creation new song new name new man new heart new spirit In Hebrew, everything is new. And that's why he's saying here in verse 4. The new man we are under the new covenant we have a new heart a new spirit and we will receive a new name all this is given to us in the word of God throughout the Scripture what happened we have entered into a complete new relationship the old man is dead positioned as is before God and we are new creation sin Romans 6 and verse 1 that grace may abound God forbid Paul is saying how shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein knowing not that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death that like as the as the Messiah was raised up from the dead by the glory of the father even so we should walk in newness of life.

Newness of life. He continued, our beloved brothers and sisters, just to read verse 5 as well. In verse 5, he continued, he said, if or since we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, verse 5, we shall be also, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection. Now, you remember the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, rose from among the dead and he was ushered to heaven. He is at the right hand of God the Father. And what really the Apostle Paul is emphasizing, that the believers, just as the Lord had been raised, we will also be raised one day. We will be with him.

But now that we became believers, we are to live life, the resurrection life. We cannot do it on our own it is with the help of the Spirit of God and yet we should not seek to live the way we used to live there must be a change in the life of those that belong to the Lord and the first five verses emphasize the truth that we every believer need to know that he or She has already died when we have accepted the person of the Lord Jesus the Messiah. When he died, we died. When he died, we died. Why? Because we belong to him.

We are identified with him and we now belong to him. This is an important truth to understand. Much more that i would like to say but time is kind of passing by but let me just just read the next verses for us so we will just go over them in our next a little time that we have in verses six to ten not only that the believer in the Lord Jesus need to know that he or she have already died to sin when we have accepted the Lord but also every one of us every believer to know that we should not longer serve sin. Sin became a master.

Sin is like a master in the life of the unregenerated world, and we should no longer serve sin, but serve the Lord. And that's why in verse, notice verse 6, why? Why? Notice again, he used the word knowing. We are to know in our mind, to know. To know knowing this that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. In other words, our old man, and again, the interesting thing that the old man, you remember, we have already emphasized the fact that we are new creation. We are new men, a new person.

We sing a new song, redemption song. We have a new heart, a new spirit. We are under a new covenant, and we receive a new name. Everything is new. And therefore, to know also that the old man, the old nature is crucified, is dead with the Messiah. That the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. You see, isn't it true that sin is so easily beset us because we have that sin nature and there is a battle that is going on in our life every day. Galatians 5 tells us to walk in the power of the Spirit of God, receive and not in the flesh.

And the only way to be victorious is as we live in light of this new man and live in the light of the help of the Spirit of God and therefore to know that the old man is dead, crucified. What happened on the cross? Yeshua died. The Messiah died. And what happened is the moment we have accepted Yeshua, Jesus, We died, positionally, as far as God is concerned, we have died. And therefore, knowing that the old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. That is essential, beloved brothers and sisters. And let me just present before us this, as we are closing the meeting today.

You see, now as believers, we have new nature. We also have an old nature. Romans 7 and verse 14, the old nature is capable to sin, but the new nature is not capable to sin. According to John 3 and verse 6, we have the flesh, and the flesh is that old nature but when we became when we became believers in the Lord Jesus the Messiah he had given us a new spirit we have the holy Spirit of God indwelling in us now we also know in Scripture from second Corinthians 4 and verse 16 that there is the outward man is perishing but then we have the inward man second Corinthians 4 16b the inward man this has to do with the new nature that the Lord had Colossians 3:9 speaks about the old man.

Colossians 3:10 speaks about the new man. 1 Corinthians 2:14 speaks about the natural man. 2 Corinthians 2:15 speaks about the spiritual man. And then of course in Ephesians 2:3 we learn about the human nature which is sinful. And then 2 Peter 1 verse 4 speaks about the divine nature that we have received. You see, there is something that we are to know that the moment we came to know the Lord Jesus as our Lord and Savior and Mashiach, the moment that we have accepted Him, we read here, we are no longer, we are buried with Him by baptism. Into death that like as the Messiah was raised from the dead by the glory of the father even so we also should walk in newness of life and so beloved brothers and sisters in these first five six verses of Roman chapter six the apostle Paul wanted us to know wanted the Romans to know she have already died to sin, positionally, when we came to faith in the person of our Lord Jesus the Messiah and the work that he had accomplished for us on the cross.

Knowing this, verse 6, and I'll stop with this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed or rendered inactive. The body of sin will be rendered inactive. That henceforth, we should not serve sin, but serve our Lord, Yeshua, Jesus, Temasai. We will continue with this study, very interesting study. With the Lord's help, we will continue to seek his help. The need for day-by-day sanctification to live life that is pleasing to the Lord and thank God that when we fail and sin creep in thank God for the throne of grace that we can turn to the Lord and come to him repent and confess of it and if we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John chapter 1 and verse 9. Well, my dear friend, God bless you. May the Lord help us with the study of Romans chapter 6, 7 and 8. And the theme there is sanctification. God bless you, my dear friend. Until the next time, we say shalom, shalom. Bye-bye.
