Having Peace With God Through Jesus the Messiah
Having Peace With God Through Jesus the Messiah
From Chapter 5:1–4 of the study of the Book of Romans (אֶל־הָרוֹמִיִּים), Brother Gideon Levytam draws our attention to Paul’s reassuring words. Believers in Yeshua the Messiah have eternal salvation because of the atoning sacrifice of the Lord Jesus the Messiah. Though still sinners by nature, true believers are counted as justified before God. Even more, they now have eternal Shalom (peace) with God, whose holiness has been satisfied through the atoning work of the Messiah. While still on earth, God’s people can enjoy the blessings that accompany their salvation. These include access to God's presence by faith, joy in the hope of His coming glory, the ability to endure trials with patience, and the confident expectation of one day being in heaven with the LORD.

God bless you. Welcome to the Bible Classes of the Holy Scriptures in Israel, where we are going to continue in our study together of the book of Romans. I hope you have your Bibles available and open there to Romans chapter 5. We are going to read the first 11 verses of Romans chapter 5. So let's pray and ask the Lord to bless the meeting for today. I gather now, Father, thank you for your word. Bless our study together in the book of Romans. We ask it in Yeshua's name. Amen. Amen. So here we go, beloved friends and dear brothers and sisters. Turn with me to Romans chapter 5. We are moving along in our study together of the book of Romans.
Paul, Shaul Paul wrote to the Roman believers that presents before us all the righteousness of God the righteousness of God in Hebrew We have covered already four chapters and we begin here today with chapter 5 verses 1 to 11 and I'm reading Verse 1, Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, our Lord Yeshua HaMashiach, by whom also we have access by faith into disgrace within or wherein we stand and rejoice in hope of the glory of God, and not only so, But we glory in tribulation also, knowing that tribulation worketh patience, and patience experience, and experience hope. And hope maketh not a shame, because the love of God shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given unto us.
Mashiach died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die, yet preadventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commended his love towards us, that while we were yet sinners, Mashiach died for us. His blood we shall be saved from the wrath through him for if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his son much more being reconciled we shall be saved by his life and not only so but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ by whom we have now received the atonement or the reconciliation. And here I'm going to end with the reading, beloved brothers and sisters, of Romans chapter 5.
Now we have covered, beloved brothers and sisters, already these first four chapters. We remember that as we studied Romans chapter 5, 1-4, we have already covered the fact that the question of sin had been presented, the fact that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. And then in the section that we are dealing with right now in Romans 3.21 to Romans 5.21, this is the subject or the presentation of the Apostle Paul. He presented the truth of the salvation. That God has provided for those that have trusted in his Son, the Messiah, the Lord Jesus. So we have covered already, of course, the fact that justification has been explained in chapter 3, verses 21 to 31.
We have already covered a justification illustrated in the life of Abraham in chapter 4, verses 1 to 25. And also there, if you remember, King David was mentioned in chapter 4 when he says what a blessed it is, how blessed it is that God does not impute, does not consider sin when he forgives when one is repenting. If you remember, we have already read in chapter 4 concerning the imputation of righteousness to the one that believes, even as David also, describe the blessedness of the man unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works. Now, beloved brothers and sisters, now that we've covered chapter 4 and verses 1 to 25, that illustration, justification being illustrated in the life of Abraham, now as we are arriving to chapter 5.
The apostle is moving along and he's continuing to develop the truth of justification by emphasizing the blessing that accompany the justification that the believers in Jesus the Messiah receive in the first 11 verses of chapter 5 and in the second portion in chapter 5 verses 12 to 21 he will emphasize the basis upon which we have received justification and the meaning of the word justification it is simply that God declare the believer in the Lord Yeshua Jesus the Messiah just why because Yeshua Jesus paid for the sin of this world he died he was buried and he rose again and everyone that believeth on him is as a just person because of the work of our Lord Yeshua Jesus the Messiah so now when we come to chapter 5 you notice how chapter 5 begin very interesting use the word therefore notice the word here in verse 1 of Romans chapter 5 therefore now in the book of Romans the apostle Paul used this word therefore.
Least four times in chapter 3 and verse 20 we have the therefore of condemnation notice that verse 20 therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified any side for by the law is the knowledge of the knowledge of sin this is the therefore of condemnation because we are all condemned because the law revealed to us our heart condition that we are condemned by nature then in chapter 5 where we are now it's the second therefore that is found in the book of Roman and that is the therefore of justification we will develop it in a moment as we are going to move along in the study of Roman chapter 5 therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ later on in chapter 8 the apostle Paul.
Will use the third time the word therefore in chapter 8 and in verse 1 where he will say and I would like to read this verse for us notice that where it says in verse 1 there is now therefore there is therefore now no condemnation for them which are in Christ Jesus that is the third therefore that is found in the book of no condemnation for the believer and finally in Romans chapter 12 this will be the fourth time that apostle Shaul Paul will use the word therefore in chapter 12 and verse 1 i beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of God and there is the therefore of dedication and these four therefore presented by our pastor Paul is always in light of something that he had already spoken about in the previous verses or in the previous chapters.
So we have the "therefore of condemnation" in chapter 3:20, the "therefore of justification" in chapter 5:1, the "therefore of no condemnation" in chapter 8:1, and the "therefore of dedication". Chapter 12 and verse 1 as well. Now in this fifth chapter as we have already mentioned the apostle Paul in this fifth chapter is really explaining now what he have already spoken about at the end of chapter 4. In fact the last two words of Roman chapter 4 are being explained in Roman chapter 5. What are the last two words of Romans chapter 4? Our justification. The last two words, our justification. He's now developing it and he's explaining this because oftentimes people do not understand what it meant when God reckoned them now justified.
I don't know if you know some. That are not quite sure of their salvation. They are troubled because they say, well, am I really saved? I've accepted Yeshua as my Lord and my Savior. I believed on him and acknowledged that I am a sinner and he died for my sins. But they are not sure if they are saved because they say, maybe tomorrow I will stumble and commit a sin salvation and then maybe later on i will try to regain my salvation once again i will do some good deeds and assume that i have received my salvation and then again i will fall into and stumble and i will lose my salvation and therefore they don't have this shalom this peace in their hearts because they are never sure they never have this confidence in understanding what God says in his word concerning the.
Of eternal salvation once one who believe in the Lord Jesus the Messiah as he is her Lord and Savior you remember the Lord Jesus the Messiah himself said in John in the Gospel of John he said my sheep hear my voice and I know them and I give unto them eternal life John chapter 10 and they shall never perish you remember these verses maybe we should really read them so we will not lose on understanding promise that the Lord Jesus the Messiah promised all those that will believe and trust in him he says in in in John 10 and verse 27 my sheep hear my voice and i know them this knowledge is not knowing about them it is a knowledge of relationship with them i have an intimate relationship with them and then he said that they shall follow me.
And I give unto them eternal life. Verse 28 of John chapter 10. He doesn't say I give unto them life as long that they will never stumble and fall and sin. Or he doesn't say I'll give unto them temporary life until the next fall or until the next sin that they will sin. No, I give unto them eternal life and they shall never perish. Brothers and sisters, never perish. This is the promise of our Lord Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah, that those who would believe on him will never perish. Not because they are good, not because they have accomplished something on their own, because they believed on him, the Mashiach, the Messiah, who paid for their sin.
They shall never perish. He continued to say in John 10:28 "Neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand, no one can unsave them." And he continued: "My Father which gave them me is greater than all, and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand." That is eternal security. This is salvation once and for all. You and I didn't save ourselves. We didn't pay for our salvation and our justification. We were not good enough to become saved, to become forgiven. And by the way, it's not only in these days. Our forefathers were forgiven on the basis of the atoning blood that was shed which pointed to the Mashiach.
When a lamb was killed, its blood was shed. God atoned and covered their sins and forgave the sins of his people. So Paul is desiring to explain this now, of course, to the Gentile believers in the assembly at Rome. Who needed for themselves to understand that they were justified the moment that they came to faith in Christ, in the Messiah. Our justification is the last two words in Romans chapter 4 and verse 25. So Paul now, in the first 11 verses, presenting the blessedness of our justification, and then later on in verse 12 to 21, He will continue to speak about the basis of our justification. So now in these 11 verses, He presents a blessing which accompanies justification.
And you notice, really, there are seven blessings that I mentioned here, which accompanies the justification. Justification that every true believer in Yeshua the Messiah possess and can enjoy so first of all in verse 1 notice he says therefore in light of being justified in light of our justification now as believers therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God we have shalom with God And how this shalom came about in our life? Through our Lord Jesus Christ, through our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. The first benefit of our justification is peace, shalom with God. By the way, in the Greek, the word is irene, ayin. In Hebrew, the word is shalom.
God. And you notice, beloved brothers and sisters, it is on the basis of the finished work of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. It is through our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Greek for the Hebrew Yeshua. Christ is the Greek for the Hebrew Mashiach, anointed one. It is on the basis of the finished work of the anointed one, the Messiah. And the peace he noticed that the peace is peace with God he doesn't mention here the peace of God that he will deal with in Philippians chapter 4 but here he's speaking about the peace with God what is peace what is shalom? Shalom is an absent of war and even much more you see we because of our sin nature we were at enmity with God what happened before sin came into this world in the garden of Eden God was facing man and man was facing Adam and there was that relationship between God and man but God commanded Adam not to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and because Adam sinned and disobeyed he violated God's word and that's why he turned his.
Back on God and he was hiding from God. And because God is holy and could not look upon sin, God turned his face from Adam. And it is only when Adam confessed his sins and turned to the Lord that the Lord could turn back to him, forgive his sins on the basis of the sacrifice that he himself killed in in Genesis 3:21 where he covered his nakedness with the skin of the animal and his soul with the blood of an innocent animal which is speaking about the Messiah then there was now a relationship with God but of course everything was pointing to the coming of the Messiah Jesus Christ Yeshua HaMashiach and so what happened beloved brothers and sisters the war has ended for those accepted the provision of God and that's why there is shalom there is Irene there is Irene there is shalom there is peace with God and it is through our Lord Jesus Christ turn with me for a moment to the prophet Isaiah Isaiah chapter 48.
We read in verse 22 listen to what we read in Isaiah 48 and verse 22 it says listen to what men by nature what we are by nature because of our sin nature it says that verse 22 there is no peace says the Lord unto the wicked Adonai larashaim. En shalom. There is no peace, saith the Lord unto the wicked. Chapter 57, at the end of chapter 57 and verse 21, he repeating the same thing. There is no peace, there is no shalom, saith my God to the wicked. He's repeating the same thing. Why? Because Rasha is the one who is evil, is sinful, or she is sinful. This is all of us by nature.
There is therefore no peace. Why? Because sin separates us from God. 59 of Isaiah and there if you notice it says verses 1 and 2 of Isaiah 59 behold the Lord's hand is not shortened that it cannot save neither his ears ear is heavy that he cannot hear but your iniquity have separated between you and your God and your sins have hid his face from you that he will not hear But once the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, came to this world, provided redemption for us when he died on the tree, on the cross, and he was buried and rose again for our justification. This is the last two words, our justification of Romans chapter 4 and verse 25.
Offenses and was raised for our justification. Now therefore, chapter 5 and verse 1, therefore now being justified by faith, we have peace with God. And it is through our Lord Jesus the Messiah. Isn't it amazing? Turn with me to Colossians chapter 1 and verse 20. In Colossians chapter 1 and verse 20, Here is the price it was paid in order to provide for us Shalom Im HaElohim, Shalom with God. Colossians, we read, notice that in chapter 1 and verse 20, where it says, and having made peace. How did peace came about? Through the blood of his cross. This is Colossians chapter 1 and verse 20. Yeshua, the Messiah, had to shed his blood. He had to die for the sin of this world.
He had to become the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of this world. That is the only ground upon which we now have peace with the living God. It is through our Lord Jesus the Messiah. And if one rejects the offering of God through the Messiah Jesus, through Yeshua the Messiah, she have shalom and have peace or it's not possible because they reject the way of a salvation that God provided through the Messiah through the Lord Jesus through his son by the way if you turn back for a moment one more time to the Tanakh notice what we read in Psalm 85 and verse 10 In Psalm 85 and verse 10, this Psalm, 85, is the Psalm of the shlamim, of the peace offering.
Psalm 85 and verse 10 is the Psalm that relate to Leviticus chapter 3, the peace offering, the shlamim, shalom offering. Righteousness and shalom and peace have kissed each other. When did mercy and truth meet together? When did righteousness and shalom and peace have kissed each other? Do you know where? At the cross. When Yeshua the Messiah died for the sin of this world, mercy of God for sinful men had been provided. And the truth of God that God is holy and he must judge sin happened right there when he judged the Messiah on the tree but at the same time righteousness God's provision a righteous God providing righteousness for a sinner and shalom towards a sinner have kissed each other because there at the tree at the cross at the altar Yeshua the Messiah provided for those who would believe who believe in him he provided for them peace he provided for them shalom now again if you remember beloved brothers and sisters we distinguish a little bit the difference between peace with God and the peace of God what is the difference what is the difference between peace with God Romans 5 and verse 1 and the.
Peace of God, Philippians chapter 4 and verses 6 and 7. I just want to emphasize this that we will understand it. Peace with God is received once and for all. The moment we came to acknowledge that Yeshua is indeed the Messiah and that he is the son of God who came from heaven to pay for the sin of this world. We have accepted his finished work and he died, he was buried and he rose again for our that moment that we have accepted him as our Lord, Mashiach and Savior, we have peace with God once and for all. But the peace of God is another thing. The peace of God is in relationship to the believers walk here in this world.
And many times the believers do not have the peace of God when they are not in fellowship. With the Lord. And so when we as believers violate God's word or disobey the Lord, not having fellowship with the Lord, we cannot enjoy the peace of God in our life as we're going through trials and tribulations and difficulties here in this world. And that's why we read, notice that in Philippians 4 and verse 5 and 6, be made known unto all men, the Lord is at hand. Be careful for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your request be made known unto God, and verse 7, and the peace of God, and shlom ha'Elohim, and the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and mind through Christ Jesus, through the Messiah, Yeshua this is Philippians chapter 4 verses 5 6 and 7 notice here the peace of God while in Romans 5 and verse 1 peace with God shalom im ha-Elohim shalom ha-Elohim two different thoughts though it is always related one to another so if there is someone that is not yet a believer he or she in order to have the peace.
With God he or she must believe and therefore be declared justified by God, accept the Lord Jesus the Messiah and be saved. That will provide for one peace with God. If not, they cannot have peace with God. They are still at war against God. They are still enemies of God. Him, they are still enemies of God. That's where we were all by nature until the Lord touched our hearts and brought us to himself. And so the first benefit that we have here is peace with God. And notice this is the word therefore being justified by faith, being, in other words, having been. This has already happened.
If you became a believer yesterday, it happened. Yesterday if you became a believer a year ago it happened a year ago if you became a believer in Yeshua Jesus the Messiah 20 years ago it has already happened having been justified this is a past tense we have peace with God and it is through our Lord Jesus the Messiah this is the first benefit this is so beautiful because to know that God He's accepted us and we are no longer at enmity with God. This is such a wonderful truth to know. Wonderful truth to know. No matter what, the failure that creeps into our life will never change for a moment.
That true truth that we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach. Then the second benefit that we find here that Paul wanted to emphasize now as he's writing to the Roman believers, the second benefit is that we have an access presently. In other words, the peace that we have with God that we have already received the moment we became believers, that has already happened and we will enjoy it in the future in heaven throughout eternity when we will be with him. That's it. No separation. We belong to the Lord for time and for eternity. But what about here and now? Here and now, as we are living here in this world, we still go through challenges and trials and difficulties in our life.
And therefore, it is wonderful to have the access to the presence of God by faith. We can always approach Him. It says in verse 2, by whom this is by Jesus Christ by Yeshua the Messiah also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand this is the second we might say benefit that accompanies the salvation that we are already possessed through the Lord Jesus the Messiah it is an access to his presence no matter where you are. Matter at what a state you are what difficulty is coming into our lives we have an access to the presence of the Lord we can always come to the presence of the Lord we can always come to him and be received we can come to him in prayer we can come to him sharing at the burden that we have in our hearts it is here and now in this world we have an access we have an access to God Let me remind you that even though our people of Israel had the privilege of receiving the instruction in the Torah that God had given to the people of Israel, the tabernacle in the wilderness, the temple in the land of Israel, if you remember, there was always some limitation.
Oh yeah, Israel was privileged beyond comprehension. Was a limitation into the approach to the immediate presence of God in the Holy of Holy and in the temple in the city of Yerushalayim. And why? Because the veil in the Holy of Holy was still there to limit the people of Israel into the immediate presence of God because the Messiah hasn't come as yet. Of course, God said it in this way. They did not live in the day that you and I live today as a nation. Israel, in Israel's history before the coming of the Messiah, although they were a people that were near to God, yet Scripture teaches us that there was still limitation to come to the immediate presence of God.
Leviticus chapter 16 for a moment if you remember in Leviticus chapter 16 we have the instruction concerning Yom HaKippurim the day of atonement and God said this was clear instruction by God it has nothing to do with the people themselves they were not worse than you and I or better than you and I lived there in the days of old you and i would have the same limitation but we have been the Lord set us to live in these days of the coming of the Messiah in this church age and therefore we have this access because of the Lord Jesus the Messiah notice i'll just read a few verses in Leviticus 16 and the Lord this is verse 1 the Lord speak unto Moses after the death of the two sons of aaron when they offered And the Lord said unto Moses, listen to this, verse 2.
Come in a specific way first of all for to kill an animal for to atone for himself for his family then to take a to kill a bullock and to and also to kill it on behalf of all the nation of Israel he had to approach the presence of God only once a year on Yom HaKippurin the day of atonement and not without the blood first of all for himself and then for his family and then for the rest of our people of all the people of Israel Well, there was limitation. They couldn't come at any time. The veil was there. And the veil was instructed by God to be placed there at Kodesh HaKodeshim, at the Holy of Holies, because God set limitation.
Why? Because it was not the time. The Messiah hasn't come. And by doing so God showed that the time has not arrived the Messiah will come the Messiah will come the Mashiach will come when he will come the veil will be rented and therefore there will be an open veil to enable all the believers in the Lord Jesus the Messiah to approach the immediate presence of God in Matthew chapter 27 after the Lord Jesus the Messiah cried with a loud voice and he says my God my God why has thou forsaken me you remember eli eli lama shvaktani Matthew 27 and verse 46. And so after he said that fulfilling what we read in Psalm 22 and verse 3 and then beloved brothers and sisters what we read in verse 50 of Matthew 27, Yeshua, when he had cried again with a loud voice, he yielded up the spirit.
He died. The sin of this world was laid upon him. God punished him to become the supreme sacrifice. And once he died, we read in verse 51 of Matthew chapter 27. And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain, from the top to the bottom, and the earth did quake, and the rock rent. The veil of the temple was rent. Why? Because now God was satisfied. Now the fulfillment of all that which the tabernacle and the temple and the sacrifices were speaking about, as God had given them to his earthly people, Israel, until the time when the Mashiach will come. But when the Mashiach himself have come, the veil was rent.
God was satisfied. Once and for all, the supreme sacrifice was offered. And God now could open the veil. And the veil was rent not from the bottom to the top, but from the top to the bottom. Open because men opened it from the bottom to the top but God from the top opened it to the bottom that men could come in because now there is a way to approach the presence of God God want us to have an access to his presence and so let's read back in Romans chapter 5 and verse 2 by whom by Yeshua by Jesus Christ by Yeshua the Messiah also we notice have access faith into this grace wherein we stand we still believe and we have been a grace has been extended to us and notice the apostle Paul said we that mean me Paul Shaul Paul and you Roman believers by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein ye stand.
Remember when we stand. Remember Paul said elsewhere in Ephesians chapter 2, by grace are ye saved through faith. That's the basis of our salvation. That's the basis of our justification, simply believing what Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah have accomplished. Of our justification of our salvation is that we have shalom with God but we also have an access and the thought of access beloved brothers and sisters the entrance into the presence of like an entrance into the presence of a king and it is through the favor of another and a righteous God through the favor that had been provided us by the Lord Jesus the Messiah. Let me remind you also that even before the sacrificial system was established by God for his people Israel in Exodus 19 when the law was given Israel could not come close to the mountains in Mount Sinai and they had to have a distance because a holy.
God and a sinful people could not come into the mountain or touch even the mountain because a God he was coming down and giving his law for the nation of Israel and therefore there was even then a distance because of the holiness of God now you and I might say well does does that mean that we you and I can come carelessly into the presence of God all of a sudden God became less holy because Yeshua the Messiah came well the answer is no it doesn't mean that we are to be careless today but the point is that our pastor Paul is seeking to convey is when the Messiah came and fulfill all the that which God have intended and desired for with respect to the sin of this world now God had been satisfied with respect to sin and a true believer can access to the presence of God.
On the basis of the precious blood of the Lord and so he said by whom by Jesus Christ by Yeshua HaMashiach also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand brothers and sisters our standing is not on a base on the basis of our achievement our standing is on the basis of what the Lord Jesus the Messiah have achieved on our behalf when he became our shalom when he died and shed his precious a precious blood now just to read along with it it turned with me to the book of Hebrews Hebrews chapter 4 notice that Hebrews chapter 4 and verses 14 15 and 16 there we read in Hebrews 4 verse 14 We read, notice that, seeing then we have a great high priest that is passed into the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
For we have not a high priest that cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore, listen to this, verse 16. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. In other words, don't stay away. You have an access to the presence of God through the Lord Jesus the Messiah. Let us therefore come boldly, not carelessly. God did not become less holy because Yeshua died. And righteous. We cannot just approach God carelessly and therefore we are called to come to draw nigh to God through the person of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In other words, the second benefit of our justification is we have access by faith into the presence of God. From Romans chapter 5 verse 2a but there's another notice that Paul continues building it up as he's as he's presenting this before the Roman believers and therefore remember that in Romans chapter 5 Paul is explaining the last two words that are found in Romans chapter 4 our justification and he's explaining it and unfolding it and helping us to see what we have in the Messiah in Christ In verse 2, again, he continues now, and the third benefit of our justification is that we have a glorious hope. We have a glorious hope.
He continued to say in verse 2, after he said, by whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and notice that verse 2b, In the hope of the glory of God. Now that is also important, beloved brothers and sisters. We have a sure hope. Remember that the hope of the believer is a sure hope. You know, sometimes we use this expression, you know, I hope that I will be able to do this, that, or the other. The presence of God and to have eternity with Him and to have a bliss for eternity, this hope is sure. It does not depend on anything else, not even on our performance.
Though at times we stumble and fail, God is still desiring that we will live close to Him and live for Him. The believer in the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, have a glorious hope. The Hebrew word for hope is tikvah. And I don't know if you remember that when the national anthem of the people of Israel is sung, it is called hatikvah. Kol od balevav. That was the heart yearning, the hope of being gathered back to the land. Israel as a nation has and it will be fully fulfilled when Israel will accept the Messiah at his second coming at the end of the tribulation. The hope of the restored nation will come to fruition as God had promised.
But for you and I who are part of the ecclesia, the assembly, the church, we have a sure hope today. And the hope is that our hope is secure and sure. Sure hope beloved brothers and sisters it is called a blessed hope in fact turn with me to the book of Titus in Titus chapter 2 we read turn with me to Titus chapter 2 i want to read a few verses there it says notice that we read here in verse a verse 11 and 12 And 13 of Titus chapter 2. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation has appeared unto all men, teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lust, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world.
Verse 13, Paul said to Titus, he says, Listen, for that blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and our Savior, Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach. Looking for the blessed hope. Beloved brothers and sisters, this is a sure and a blessed hope that every believer has the hope of a glory. To be one day with our blessed Lord Jesus the Messiah this is wonderful assurance that a believer has i just want to read another verse in the book of Hebrews if you turn to Hebrews chapter 3 and there we do read listen to this it says here in verse 6 of Hebrews chapter 3 but Christ as a son over his own house, whose house are we, if or since we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.
The sure hope that the believer has in our Lord Jesus, that we are going to be with him in heaven. See for the unbeliever the unbeliever has no hope the unbeliever do not have any hope he or she who do not have a relationship with God they can never have any hope in their life it says in Proverbs chapter 13 and verse 12 hope deferred maketh the heart sick but when the desire comes it is a tree of life notice hope deferred maketh the heart sick this is what happened to the unbeliever he or she who do not have the Lord Jesus the Messiah as their Lord and Savior their hope is defer is defer is defer once they turn to him they will have this sure hope that all those that have trusted the Lord Jesus the Messiah has because of the fact that.
Lord Jesus the Messiah had finished the work of redemption on behalf of God for the benefit of those that have trusted in Him. So, so far, beloved brothers and sisters, we have covered the three benefits that accompany the justification, the salvation of the believer. We have peace with God, verse 1. We have access to the presence of God, verse 2a. That hope the sure hope the glorious hope now if you notice in these three benefits the first one is past tense the second time is present tense and the third thing it is the third one is future past we already have peace with God present we can enter we have access to the presence of God here and now the hope the glorious hope has to do with our sure future day that we are going to be with him in glory past present and future you see the work of the Lord Jesus the Messiah covered everything with respect to those that have trusted in him past shalom that have already done the moment we have trusted in the finished work of the.
Presently, we can always come to God, casting all our cares before Him. He cares for us. We can share with Him. We can access to His presence. We can let Him know exactly what we have in our hearts. He hears our prayer, and He responds in His time, in His way, to the prayer and to the cry of the saints. And in the future, we have this glorious hope. And the hope is to be with the Lord Jesus, the Messiah. In heaven. Now let me just take another few more minutes and speak about the fourth benefit of our salvation and our justification. It's mentioned in verses 3 and 4.
And that fourth benefit has to do with godly character. Godly character. You see, the Lord left us here. You see, every one of us that belong to Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah, we are suitable for heaven. That's it. The moment you have accepted the Lord, you are suitable for heaven. Because Yeshua, Jesus, died for your sin, was buried, rose again for your justification and mine. We are suitable for heaven. But for one reason or another, the Lord still keeps us here. And why? Because he wants us to develop a godly character. Develop as we are living in fellowship with the Lord. And so we read in verses 3 and 4, and not only so, notice how many times Paul, we use this expression, not only this, not only this, not only so, he continues, but we glory in tribulation.
Also, why? Knowing the tribulation workers patience, and patience experience, and experience hope in other words notice that Paul is saying something that you and I might say wait a minute wait a minute you are telling me that in verse 3 we glory in tribulation well every one of us when somebody says would you like me to send you a little bit trouble in your life in Hebrew every one of us will say no please please don't send me any tribulation i don't want any tribulation in my life i want my life to go smoothly and easily trouble-free that's what we want by nature in fact you see when sin came into this world Genesis chapter 3 when Adam and Eve lived in the garden of delight.
They were trouble-free. They had no problem. But when sin came in, their trouble began. And they were sent out of the Garden of Delight, Gan Eden. And since that time, man tries to get back to the Garden of Eden, to the Garden of Delight. But because of sin and sin nature, they cannot find their ways in because the only way to get into much more than the garden of Eden to the immediate presence of God to heaven is by trusting the Messiah Yeshua Jesus so because of sin in this world and the sin nature that we still possess we experience tribulation trials now Paul says and not only so he says but we glow in tribulation.
Or we boast in tribulation. In other words, when trouble come into our life, why does God allow trouble to come into our life? Because tribulation in the life of the believer is helping him and her to develop a godly character. What do we do when we have trouble in our lives? Do we tell God, well, God, because I have trouble in my life, I don't want you anymore in my life. I don't need you. You are not a good God. Anymore well the believer ought not to say that and he or she will not say it even though a time come when they are so much in distress and yet tribulation is part and parcel of the experience of the people of God because we live here on earth and every trial causes us to trust God more and to see Lord I need you in my life I need you I need you in my life and therefore So the godly character is developed when we experience tribulation.
Please just turn with me for a moment to the book of Psalm one more time. Psalm 119 and listen to these verses for a moment as we are drawing to the end. Psalm 119 verse 50 says this. This is my comfort in my affliction for thy word has quickened me. When I have affliction, I turn to you, I receive instruction from your word, and they have made me alive. They quicken me in spite of the affliction. Psalm 119 and verse 50. Verse 67 says, Before I was afflicted, I went astray. But now have I kept thy word. The Hebrew word for afflicted is Before I was afflicted, I went astray. Sometimes, beloved brothers and sisters, the affliction that God has allowed us to experience in our life only drives us closer to Him.
I need you, Lord. I need you in my life. In Psalm 19, verse 71, we do read, listen to this. Afflicted, that I might learn thy statutes." In every dispensation, God's people experience trials, because in this world there is opposition to God, there is opposition to the people of God, and even our sin nature oppose the divine nature that God had given to us. That's why Galatians 5 says, "Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh because the flesh lusts against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh. They are contrary to one another. One more verse in Psalm 119 and verse 75 where we read, I know, O Lord, that thy judgments are right and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.
Allow us to experience trials in our life it is developing a godly character in our life and praise God that he's walking with us he's assisting us as we cast all our cares before him he is teaching us a tribulation notice in the order this beloved brothers and sisters as we're drawing to the end right now in verses three and four notice then verse three and not only saw but we glow in tribulation. Why? Because tribulation works as patience. Now remember of the secretary that had on her desk, "Lord, give me patience and I want it now." Well, if the Lord will give you patience, he will have to take you through tribulations.
That's the process. We cannot learn patience unless we go through trials in our life, and therefore it is amazing the lesson that we learn. But we continue here in the next verse, and I just want to end with this, and it works as patience, but patience, experience. We go through experiences in our life, is develop maturity in the life of the believer, and ultimately, verse 4, experience, teaching, us and leading us to cling to the sure hope that we have. And the sure hope that we have is the hope of the glory of God that one day these trials here in this world, tribulation here in this world will come to an end when we are going to be in the presence of God with our Lord Yeshua the Messiah when sin will be no more.
Praise God, beloved brothers and sisters, for the hope that the believers have. And so I will stop here because of time. In the will of the Lord, we will continue with verses 5 onwards of Romans chapter 5. So thus far, out of the seven benefits of our justification, we have covered, we have peace with God, we have access to God, we have a glorious hope, as we submit to the Lord and allow him to work in our life. May the Lord help us as we continue on to follow the Lord Jesus the Messiah here upon the face of this earth. Well, let's pray together in conclusion. Our God and our Father, thank you for your word.
Thank you for the fifth chapter of the book of Romans. Bless your word to us, we pray. Help us to understand it. Thank you for the Shalom, for the peace that we have with God through our Lord, Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah. We ask it all in His precious name. Amen and Amen. God bless you, my dear friend. Until the next time, we say Shalom, Shalom. Bye-bye.
