All the World Is Guilty Before God

From Chapter 3:9-20 of the study of the Book of Romans (אֶל־הָרוֹמִיִּים), Brother Gideon Levytam explains Paul’s message to the Roman believers regarding the fallen condition of all humanity. Paul posed a crucial question: Are we better than Israel, who failed to keep the Law? His answer was clear, no, not at all. Both Jews and Gentiles are equally under the power of sin. Quoting David’s words from Psalm 14, Paul emphasized that not a single person is truly righteous. As a result, the entire world stands guilty before God. Because of humanity’s sinful nature, no one seeks after God, and there is no fear of Him in people’s hearts. God’s Holy Law demands perfection, yet no one is capable of fully submitting to it. Therefore, no human being can be justified in God’s sight through the Law alone.

Shalom everyone, God bless you. Welcome to the Bible classes of the Holy Scriptures in Israel. We are thankful to the Lord for the privileges that he had given to us to share his word in such a fashion as we are studying together the book of Romans. And I hope you have your Bible with you. With me to the book of Romans. We are in chapter 3 for this meeting today from verses 9 to 20. But before we read these verses, let's ask the Lord to bless the meeting today. Abba, our Father, we commit this study of the Word of God to your loving care, for we ask it in Yeshua, in Jesus' name.

Amen. Amen. Friends and dear brothers and sisters turn with me to Romans chapter 3 and let me read these verses Romans chapter 3 and verses 9 to 20 for today's session hopefully with the Lord's help we'll cover this meeting these verses for today for this meeting so we read Apostle Paul is writing this very very important letter to the Roman believers the believers in the city of Rome whom he did not visit as yet he didn't see them and yet he's writing to them this most important letter a letter that deal with the importance of the great salvation that God had provided through Yeshua the Messiah Jesus our Lord and our Savior and Paul continued to say in verse 9 of Romans chapter 3 he says what then are we better than they no in no wise for we have before proved that both Jews and Gentiles that they are all under sin as it is written there is none righteous no not one there is none that understandeth.

There is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way. They are together become unprofitable. There is none that doeth good. No, not one. Their throat is an open sepulcher. Is under their lips whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness their feet are sweet to shed blood destruction and misery are in their ways and a way of peace they have not known there is no fear of God before their eyes Now, verse 19, we know that what things soever the law says, it says to them who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may become guilty before God.

Therefore, by the deeds of the law, there shall no flesh be justified in his sight. For by the law is the knowledge of sin. Listen to this again. By the law is the knowledge of sin. This is verse 20. And I'm stopping here, beloved brothers and sisters, with the reading of this portion from Romans chapter 3. With these verses from Romans chapter 3 verses 9 to 20, we are just about to come to a conclusion of the first section in the outline that we have on the whole book of Romans. You remember that we have already learned of the five S's that are found really in the book of Romans to help us to understand the division of the whole book of Romans.

That all have sinned, Romans chapter 1 verse 1 to 3:20, we have the sin question, all have sinned. Romans chapter 3 verse 21 to chapter 5 verse 21 is the theme of salvation, that God provided the Mashiach, the Messiah, the Savior. Is the S that deal with sanctification. Every believer is called to be practically sanctified, hallowed, live a holy life here in this world. Then in the fourth section of the book of Romans, Romans chapter 9 verse 1 to the end of chapter 11, 11 verse 36, we have the theme of the sovereignty of God in relationship to his earthly people Israel. And fifthly and final, the fifth S in the book of Romans, in the division of the book of Romans, is the S that speaks of the service of the saints to serve God and God's people, which is found at the end of the book of Romans, chapter 12, verse 1 to chapter 16 and verse 27.

And we, beloved brothers and sisters, are here at the last portion of the first section with the letter s that represent the sin of the whole world and in verses 9 to 20 Paul is arriving to the fact of the universal guilt and the universal guilt and sin of all mankind whether it is the pagan. Are guilty before God and that is the climax that we have here in Romans chapter 3 and verses 9 to 20. You remember that in the whole passage from Romans chapter 1 and verse 18 all the way to the end of chapter 2 we have already have covered the fact that the pagan is guilty before God, the culture moral person is guilty before God, and the religious Jewish person are guilty before God.

All have fallen short of the glory of God. And we have already covered the first eight verses of chapter 3 of the book of Romans. And in chapter 3, verses 1 to 8, we have dealt with the advantage. What advantage has the Jew? You remember we read in verse 1 of chapter 3, what advantage then has the Jew? What is the advantage that the Jewish people have in comparison to the other nations of the world? One may ask and people will have questions and objections. Because if all have sin and if all are on a common ground, what then there is an advantage that the Jewish people have? And you remember how Paul answered that?

He says, in chapter 3 and verse 1 he says in verse 2 much every way chiefly because unto them were committed the oracles of God in other words not at the Jewish people do not have an advantage with respect to salvation because they have already declared in chapter 1 verse 18 to chapter 2 and verse 29 that all are guilty. Before God so what is the advantage that the Jewish people have well basically what the apostle Shaul Paul is saying to the Roman believers what is the advantage that the Jewish people have or what profit there is in circumcision for those who may have an obligation an objection and so the answer is simply the three answer is the three answers are given to us from verse The Jewish people have the advantage because, number one, unto them were committed the oracles of God.

Not only that God gave his utterance to the Jewish people, to the people of Israel, but he used his earthly people, Israel, to maintain and to preserve the word of God that you and I have today, the canon of Scripture that is in our hand, that was given to us by God through the people of Israel, who not only received the utterances of God. But preserve this for us and maintain this by the help of the Spirit of God so you and I today will have the complete canon of Scriptures. Both the Tanakh, the Hebrew Scriptures, and the new covenant was given to us by the people of Israel.

Secondly, the second objection or question that will be asked is, well, is God then unfaithful? Jesus the Messiah is God is then unfaithful in the promises that he had made towards the nation of Israel if the Jewish people as a nation are not yet a believing nation but only individuals out of the nation like Paul and Peter and James and Jude and John and all the writers of the early they've given us the gospel and even today there is a remnant according to the election of grace from among the people of Israel and everyone that is a Jewish believer in Yeshua the Messiah he is part of this Israel of this present day remnant that is within the body of Christ and so the the answer is what about if the if the whole nation has not come to faith as yet in Christ in the Mashiach well is God then unfaithful.

Well, the apostle Shaul Paul gave an answer here that God is not a liar. Let God be true and every man a liar. Eventually, all Israel as a nation will be saved. And that takes us all the way to the end of the church age, to the tribulation time. And ultimately, at the end of the tribulation, well, all Israel shall be saved. Later on, more details when we get to chapter 11, 9, 10, and 11, where Paul says, still faithful to his word and he will ultimately restore the nation of Israel and as a nation now Israel will be ultimately redeemed and receive the promised blessing of the messianic kingdom when the Messiah Yeshua himself will rule and reign over them and they will be a light to the Gentile during the thousand years reign of the Messiah to it, well, is God then unrighteous?

You know, in other words, is God then unrighteous in his dealing towards mankind and in connection with the Jewish people in particular? Well, Paul says in verses 5, 6, 7, and 8, which we covered already, that no, God is true to his word, he is righteous, and he punishes sin. Punishes sin of his own people and he's punishing the sin of this world and some were even telling about Paul he says some said in verse 8 and not rather as we be slenderously reported this is verse 8 as some affirm that we say let us do evil that good may come whose damnation is just and Paul saying no some people speaks evil of us saying that we say well let us do evil that good may come and Paul says no God does judge sin he judge his people Israel when they sin and by the way he judge you and I today as believers who are part of the church of the ecclesia of the assembly because judgment must begin at the house of God God is holy and he must.

Judge sin because he cannot look upon sin and sin he will always judge but when sin is confessed and when there is repentance God is forgiving and restoring his people to himself and if anyone in the world will turn to him today and repent of his or her sins they will be forgiven if they trust in the person of our Lord Yeshua Jesus the Messiah. And so now, beloved brothers and sisters, in these last verses, very interesting, verses 9 to 20, Paul is now presenting the proof of the universal guilt. And so you notice in verse 9, he is pointing to the true accusation that is against everyone.

And he said in verse 9, what then? Are we better than they? No, he's saying in verse 9, in no wise. For we have before proved that the Jews, the Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sins. And it's interesting because he used the word, are we better than they? Remember, he's writing to the Roman believers and he's speaking of himself as well. Roman believers are we better than they namely the ones who are still in unbelief Jews and Gentile even we as believers who receive forgiveness from the Lord already because we have accepted the Messiah Yeshua Jesus as our Lord Messiah and Savior Paul is saying we have already concluded he's speaking to the brethren to the one that might have some sort of an objection and he's saying no no no he says in no wise he says we have already verse 9 for we have before proved that both Jews and Gentiles that all are under sin that's why we needed Christ the Mashiach because we have all sinned we came to know the Lord Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior we receive forgiveness of sins.

And God's still disciplining us as well. Not only that he will judge the unregenerated world to eternal separation from him if they reject the Messiah, the Lord Jesus, but also he will judge his own people here and now, not with respect to salvation, but he will still discipline his own people. He will judge his own people because judgment must begin at the house of God. So he's saying to the Roman believers, Are we, us believers, better than them, the Jews and the Gentiles, who yet did not come to faith in Christ, in the Messiah? He says, no, in no wise. For we, whether we are Jewish believers or Gentile believers, we have all come before, you know, we have proven that we all are guilty, we are all under sin.

This is an amazing expression. We have all under sin. Why? Because in sin did my mother conceive me, David said. I was shapen in iniquity, David said. Woe is me, Isaiah said, for I am a man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people with unclean lips. Sinful men. And Paul said, I know that in me that is in my flesh dwelleth no good thing. Shlomo said, there is no one that is righteous upon the faith of this earth that sin is not, do is good and sin is not. Every man and women of God recognized that, that they are all of us are under sin and sin came into this world.

Beloved brothers and sisters when Adam fell into sin when he have violated God's word and he plunged the whole human race into sin that's why Romans 5 and verse 12 says wherefore as by one man namely other sin entered into the world and death by sin and so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned This is so important to understand, beloved friends and dear brothers and sisters, to understand that we are all under sin because we have all have inherited this sin nature from our Abba, our father, Adam. Adam and Eve. And whether we are Jewish or whether we are Gentiles, whether we are male or whether we are female, in prison or whether we are free we have all come short of the glory of God we have all sinned we're all under sin that's why the Mashiach had to come the sinless one to pay for the sin of this world and his name is Yeshua his name is Jesus and so he came because we are all under sin and so now notice this from verse.

10 all the way to verse 19 the apostle notice he's showing us he demonstrating that all under sin by recording various verses or various passages that were found in the Hebrew Scriptures remember that when he's writing this book of Romans the Romans haven't received book as yet that letter as yet and he's quoting the Hebrew Scripture the Tanakh that is what is known or what is called all the old testament the Tanakh the Hebrew Scripture he's quoting he's giving us seven passages from the Hebrew Scriptures to demonstrate that all of us are under sin it is not something new it was something that was already declared in the Hebrew Scriptures time ago before the Lord Yeshua Jesus the Messiah came to die on the shameful cross for the sin of this world and it is extremely interesting that he's using seven a passages from the Tanakh from the Hebrew Scriptures to demonstrate two things number one the.

The fact that all of us had failed into total depravity the universality of guilt and the depravity of mankind you know how it is beloved friends and dear brothers and sisters sometimes we like to think that after all maybe i'm not as bad as him her or them but after all i'm really good person, one might think of himself or herself. But you see, the Scripture declared the fact that we are by nature depraved. We can't help ourselves. We are not sinners because we sin, but we sin because we are sinners. This is amazing. Nature you see unless we come to a point to realize that and to accept it on the basis of the word of God and to come to say you know I'm in reality I'm not right before God I can't help myself I have a sin nature unless we come to this point we will never cross the line to realize that I need a Mashiach a Messiah who would die in my stead unless we come to this point We will always assume that we can try to achieve something on our own and that we are able to please God somehow by doing good deeds or paying some money or attending certain places of worship or helping to the poor or achieving some kind of forgiveness on the basis of my doing, my activity.

From verses 10 to 18, he's demonstrating before the Romans believers that all mankind is under sin. All of us are guilty and all of us are having total depravity. We can't help ourselves. We need someone from without. We need someone who is sinless to pay for our sins in order to be accepted by God. And notice this it's like what paulie does here it's like going to an x-ray machine you know if you are sick and you go to the doctor or you go to the hospital and the doctor take an x-ray of your heart or your lungs or or whatever a part of your body and he takes an x-ray and he's looking at the x-ray and the picture and he says hey mr so-and-so here is the problem here is your your problem here's the disease that you have and here the problem that you have if you have a heart problem you will go to the doctor and you have an x-ray and the doctor will look at the x-ray and says you know what one of your valves don't work your blood is not pumping right you need to have a replacement of something there in your body in your heart you need to fix it and of course thank God for the doctors that can fix.

The pump that we have by doing one thing or another and thank God for the doctor but there is a sin we can't fix here on earth sin will be judged and the only way that sin nature and the fruit of sin sins will be forgiven is where God the one who gave us life the one who created us is the only one that he can forgive sin And so Paul is taking, you might say, an x-ray of the human condition to prove that everyone is guilty and to prove that everyone is really total depravity. And that's why we needed the Messiah to come. That's why he could say in chapter 1 and verse 16, And so let me read you these verses that are quoted here or presented here before the Romans that have been already given to Israel in days of old.

He's actually quoting Psalm 14. Verses 1 to 3, 53, Psalm 53 verses 1 to 3. He's quoting Psalm 5 and verse 9. He's quoting Psalm 140 and verse 3. He's quoting Psalm 10 and verse 7. He's quoting Isaiah 59 and verses 7 and 8. And he's quoting Psalm 36 and verse 1. Seven portions from the Hebrew Scriptures to demonstrate the universal guilt and the universal depravity of the human race. And so he's saying here in verse 10, as it is written, he's going back to the Hebrew Scripture, he says, as it is written, and listen to this, let me read it all the way to verse 18. There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are altogether become unprofitable.

There is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulcher, with their tongue they have used deceit, their lips, whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet is swift to shed blood. Destruction and misery are in their ways, and a way of peace or shalom have they not known. There is no fear of God before their eyes. Did you notice, beloved brothers and sisters, that in this passage here we really see that the Apostle Paul quoting these verses from the Hebrew Scriptures as a machine or as one going into the x-ray machine, and it shows the condition of the human race from the head to the feet, from the top to the bottom.

And you notice what he's mentioning throughout these portions that he quoted from Psalm 14, Psalm 53, Psalm 5, Psalm 140, Psalm 10, Isaiah 59, and Psalm 36. You will notice what he's saying here throughout the whole portion here. Notice what we read. About the throat the tongue the lips the mouth he's going to speak about the feet he's going to speak about the eyes in fact he's going to speak about all that what men say what men where men go and what men think as he presenting before the Romans these verses as it is written There is none righteous, verse 10, not even one. Somebody might say, yeah, but maybe not them, but I'm righteous.

So he's answering to this person who might think that he's righteous. He says, there is no righteous, not even one. Why? Because we've all inherited a sin nature. In sin did my mother conceive me, the king of Israel, David said. And we have inherited a sin nature, and therefore we are not righteous, not even one. In order that there will be one righteous upon the face of this earth. God, the Son, had to enter into this world and take union human nature with his divine nature and become the man of God's counsel. Heaven the man that was that never knew sin never did sin and in him there was no sin that man is Yeshua Jesus the Messiah but the rest of us who were born through Adam we have inherited a sin nature we can't help it that's why when Yeshua Jesus the Messiah entered into this world he was not born of the seed of man, he entered into this world in a supernatural way.

The seed of the woman, where the Holy Spirit of God placed the seed in the womb of Miriam, who gave birth to the Messiah of Israel and to the Savior of this world. The sinless man, the undefiled, the separate from sinners. But all the rest of us have sinned. He continues, notice as it is written, verse 10 in verse 11, there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. Notice that when you think about there is none righteous, not even one, that is in, he's speaking about the mind of man. There is no one that seeks after God, this is the heart of man.

You remember, beloved brothers and sisters, when we read in Scripture in Genesis chapter 3, just turn with me for a moment to Genesis chapter 3, God is seeking after man, but man does not seek after God. Read there that they heard the voice of the Lord walking in the garden. In the cool of the day, Adam and his wife hid themselves before the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. You see, they did not seek for God. They were hiding from God. As people today, sadly, hiding from God. Who seek for them, people, sadly, we all were there, we were hiding from God.

Notice what we read in verse 9: "And the Lord God called unto Adam and said unto him, 'Where are you? Where art thou?'" Ayeka, in Hebrew, eifota, ayeka, "Where are you, Adam?" And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden and I was afraid because I was naked and I heed myself. You see, already when sin entered into this world, God was seeking for mankind, for Adam and Chava, who were naked, who sinned against God, who turned away from God and covered themselves with fig leaves, which represent works of man. Works of the human race. But although they were covered with fig leaves, they knew that they were not covered, that they were wrong before God.

They have disobeyed the God who loved them and created them. So notice, and I'm back to Romans chapter 3 and verse 10, there is none righteous, not even one. There is no one that seeks after God. Verse 11, There is none that understandeth. There is none that seeketh after God. In verse 12, they are all gone out of the way. They are altogether become unprofitable. There is none that doeth good, not even you, not even me, not even one. And yet God is always seeking after mankind, created for his pleasure i always love the verse that is found in Luke chapter 19 and verse 10 where we read for the son of man for the Mashiach the Messiah is come to seek and to save that which was lost the son of man ben Adam is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

We've all been lost by nature as descendants of Adam and Eve. But God is still seeking after men, while men, and I'm saying men, mankind, men and women, people do not seek after God. And so in verses 10, 11, and 12, the apostle Paul quoting, Psalm 14 verses 1 to 3 and Psalm 53 verses 1 to 3, where we are learning the fact that God seeks men, but men do not seek after God. In fact, John 3 tells us that men love darkness rather than light. John 3 and verse 19. Love darkness rather than light. That's why we must learn of the depravity of men, depravity of the human race. We have all come short of the glory of God.

But he continued, and you notice this, beloved brothers and sisters, in the next verses, verses 13 to verse 17. 17 and 18 and here we learn beloved brothers and sisters the second and the third truth concerning the quotation of these passages that are found in the Psalms and in the prophet Isaiah that not only that man does not seek after God and that God seek after man but in these verses verses 13 all the way really to verse 18 are presented with the fact that men by nature say certain things, men by nature go away in a certain way, in a certain path, that men by nature have a thought and his heart and his mind is really not wishing and not willing the will of God and therefore a man by nature is guilty and he is depraved.

And let me read you these verses. Verses 13 14 and 13 and 14 look at the things that come out of our mouth let me read verse 13 their throat is an open sepulcher with their tongues they have you deceit the poison of us is under their lips with their mouth or whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. You notice this? We have here the throat and the tongue and the lips and the mouth. Quoting, of course, Psalm 5, Psalm 140, and Psalm 10. The throat, the tongue, the lips, the mouth. Mentioned in the Tanakh in the Hebrew Scripture to describe the condition of the human race that's why in this portion beloved brothers and sisters in verses 9 to verse 20 Paul is emphasizing the proof of the universal guilt everybody is guilty we are all guilty Jewish or Gentile male or female bound or free we are all guilty before God Because we have inherited a sin nature.

We can't help it. We were born and shaped in iniquity because we have inherited the Adamic nature. That's why we need Mashiach. We need the Messiah. We need a Redeemer. We need a Savior. Notice he continued quoting from the Hebrew Scriptures in verses 15, 16, and 17. People say but also where do they go to commit their evil doing all of us by nature I'm reading notice that I'm reading verses 15 16 and 17 their feet are swift to shed blood destruction and misery are in their ways and a way of shalom the way of peace have they not known beloved brothers and sisters, where do man go and where he goes, what does he do or she do or they do?

Look what's going on in the world in which we live in today. How much evil mankind does one towards another. Think about what's going on even today in the world in which we live in, which has already had its beginning after Adam had fallen into sin, the destruction, the evil that one does, one do to the other. You remember that the first murder that happened in human history is where a man by the name of Cain murdered his own brother by the name of Hevel. And why did he murder him? Because he was envious over the fact that Hevel, Abel, came and was accepted by God.

He came to God on the ground of which God have taught him to come to approach him. And Cain was not received. He was rejected by God because he came to God on his own merit, on his own term. He didn't come through the blood of atonement to the sacrifice that makes one acceptable by God. And because he was angry and envious over his brother, that was accepted by God, he murdered him. The first murder that happened in human history, two brothers who grew up in the same home, how is it possible, were taught the very same lesson by their own parents? That's the sin nature that we have.

And so in these verses, beloved brothers and sisters, verse 15, 16, and 17, Paul quoting the portion from the Hebrew Scripture that has to do with Isaiah 59 verses 7 and 8. Their feet are swift to shed blood. You remember where God called Cain, he says, Cain, Cain, where is your brother Abel? And he says, am I my brother's keeper? Brother crieth out of the ground because he was murdered by his own brother. Swift, as it says here, to shed. Their feet are swift to shed blood. Destruction and misery are in their ways where they go. And the way of shalom, the way of peace, have they not known? That's, beloved brothers and sisters, is the of mankind, the human race.

That's why in these verses 9 to 20, Paul presents the fact of the universal guilt, which we are all part of, and the universal depravity of the human heart. And now notice in verse 18, Paul is quoting Psalm 36 and verse 1, where it says, his heart it says there is no fear of God before their eyes this is the eyes of their hearts no fear of God and the thought here is not that they are not afraid of God many don't until God come in judgment but there's no reverence no fear no honor and fear recognizing. We are all accountable to a living God you see these beloved brothers and sisters and so now after Paul from verses 10 to 18 of Romans chapter 3 demonstrate that all are under sin in verses 19 and 20 as we draw towards the end of today's session in verses 19 and verse 20 applies this, making the application, apply this to us all.

And he's really, what is he saying here? Look and listen to the application. Listen to what that teaches us. That teaches us verses 19 and 20. Let me read these two verses. Now we know that what things soever the law says, it says to them who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may come or may become guilty before God. Therefore, by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight. Why? Because by the law is the knowledge of sin. Does here you remember that in chapter 2 you have already spoken concerning the law that was given to the people of Israel and what he's really saying here beloved brothers and sisters everyone is guilty the pagan from among the Gentile nations of the world they were guilty chapter 1 and verse 20 because they have a creation they see that they a living God that they are guilty.

Secondly the moral cultured Gentile he is also she or they are also guilty because they have conscience. Chapter 2 as we have already spoken about this as well in verses 5 and 6 they have conscience. Thirdly the Jewish the religious Jewish person is guilty as well because he has the law. We have already read it in chapter. 2 and verse 17 where it does say, it says in verse 7, Behold thou that is called a Jew, a Yehudi, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast in God. You have the law. You make your boast in God. You know his will. And you approve of the things that are more excellent being instructed out of the law.

So everyone is guilty. The pagan, the moral, and the religious are all guilty. They have creation, they have conscience, they have the Torah, the law. All are guilty. So what Paul does here in conclusion, beloved brothers and sisters, in verse 19, he is pointing to the law that was given to the people of Israel. And he says, the law of Moses was given to Israel. To submit to the law of God, therefore no one else is able, therefore, to be justified on a basis of the law, because if Israel fail, we all have fallen. And you notice what we have to emphasize here is the reason as to why God gave the law to his people Israel.

The law was never given to the nation of Israel, order to save Israel from sins no basically there are four reasons in general as to why God gave the Torah to the nation of Israel the law number one it was given to Israel for Israel's own good because this way the people of Israel will be able to enjoy the proper living the I want to read that Deuteronomy 10 and verse 13. We read, I'll read verse 12 and 13. This day for thy good. The law was given to Israel for Israel's good, not for salvation. When it says you shall not murder, Israel had it in the law, in the Torah.

When God said in Exodus 20 and verse 15, you shall not steal, Israel had it in the Torah to help them to have a good life. Life among the nation of Israel not to live like like unregenerated nation that is doing as their own as their own will thou shall love your neighbor as yourself Leviticus 19 verse 18 God gave it for Israel's good not for salvation secondly beloved brothers and sisters the law was given that God will reveal himself before the nation of Israel because he wanted his people to know him and to know his heart in Deuteronomy chapter 5 and verse 29 we do read listen to these or that there were such in an heart in them that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always that it might be well with them and with their children forever God wanted to reveal his heart for his people Israel And that's why he says in this verse, notice this, as we read here in verse 29, Oh, that there were such an heart in them that they would fear me and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them and with their children forever.

God wanted Israel to know the heart of God. Israel that they will have good life to live on earth and that they will have the Revelation of who their God is. But thirdly beloved brothers and sisters the law was given to the people of Israel in order that Israel will reveal the true and living God to all the nations of the world. We read in Deuteronomy chapter 4 and verse 4 Listen to this, verse 6. The sight of the nations which shall hear of all these statues and say surely this great nation is wise and understanding people. The law was given to the people of Israel in order that Israel will reveal the true God to the nations of the world that Israel will be a light unto the Gentiles.

It does say, beloved brothers and sisters, in verse 7, For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them? Verse 8, And what nation is there so great, that hath the statutes and the judgments so righteous as all this law which I set before you this day? None. Because God hath chosen Israel to use Israel as a vessel to bring Or Lagoim, to be a light to the Gentiles. And then fourthly, the reason that God had given the Torah to the nation of Israel, you can find it in Leviticus 17 and verse 11, really that it will point the nation of Israel to the Messiah, to Christ, to the Mashiach.

We read in Leviticus 17 and verse 11. Every time that a sacrifice was offered on the altar that God had given to the people of Israel were speaking about the coming Messiah, the coming Redeemer. And so in chapter 17 of the book of Leviticus, verse 11, for the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your soul, for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul. Killed it made a kapara it covered the sins of the nation temporarily but to point eventually the nation of Israel to the coming of the Messiah to the coming of our Lord Yeshua Jesus the Messiah listen to what Paul said in galatian i just read that galatian chapter 3 and verse 19 where it said Why?

For what purpose then serve the law? It was added because of transgressions until the seed would come, this is the Messiah, whom the promise was made. And it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. Us to the Messiah and this is exactly what we read here beloved brothers and sisters in Romans chapter 3 in conclusion listen to this in verse 20 we do read beloved brothers and sisters the purpose of the law was to show men show mankind to show Israel that they are sinners by nature and they need someone else the Messiah to come and to deal with the question of sin and so in verse at 20 we do read beloved brothers and sisters listen therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight if Israel fail to fulfill the law and they have sinned that's why they needed a blood atonement in the same way neither you Romans Paul is saying to them or anyone else.

Keep the law one can never be justified because he tells us at the end of verse 20 and that's where we will end because for the by the law is the knowledge of what of sin he doesn't say by the law is the knowledge of righteousness but by the law is the knowledge of sin that's why later on in The law was like a mirror to our people of Israel to show the fact that God is holy. And that they are sinful. To show to you and to me, my dear friend, that God is holy and you and I are sinners by nature, by the law is the knowledge of sin.

As we look at God's holy law, perfect law, God demands perfection simply are guilty and that we all are totally depraved because God's law demands 100%, not 50%, not 75%, not even 99%. The law demands perfection. God's law we have violated all his law and he revealed to us that we need the Mashiach and praise God my dear friend praise God that the law pointed to the person of the Messiah and once the Lord Jesus the Messiah came who was the only one who fulfilled God's law to the letter because there was no in him and because he was willing to lay down his life for you and for me for the sin of this world whoever believe on him and accept his work for us on the tree on the cross whoever believe on him God declare us just God forgave and forgive those that believe on him that's the lesson that we learn here the universality of the guilt of man, and the universality of the total depravity of the human race, which made it necessary to send the Messiah to this world, God the Son, who became a man, who came down to this world to be punished, he the just.

For us the unjust in order to bring us to God may the Lord help us to understand that and to come to a point that we acknowledge our Messiah Yeshua Jesus as our Lord and as our Savior and so beloved brothers and sisters I am going to conclude now with these verses that presents before us the universal of the guilt of us all. Praise God. God provided a way to redeem us, to forgive us. In the next portion in the book of Romans, from chapter 3 and verse 21 to the end of chapter 5, the Apostle Paul will deal now with the subject of the great salvation. And justify the one who become a believer, who accept God's way of salvation, which was provided for us through the person and the work of our Lord Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah.

May we all have this understanding and come to trust in Him, in the Lord Yeshua the Messiah. Hopefully and prayerfully, we all will consider that. Even today, my dear friend. So our God and our Father, we want to thank you so much for your precious word. Bless your word, we pray, for we ask it in Yeshua's name. Amen and Amen. God bless you. We say, until the next time, shalom, shalom. Bye-bye.
