The Privilege and Accountability of the Jewish People
The Privilege and Accountability of the Jewish People
From Chapter 3:1-8 of the study of the Book of Romans (אֶל־הָרוֹמִיִּים), Brother Gideon Levytam continues with Paul’s instructions regarding God’s righteousness in relation to the Jewish people. In the final verse of Chapter 2, Paul explains that a true and complete Jew is not only one who is born a Jew physically but also one who is born again spiritually through faith in Jesus, the Messiah. He then expounds on the privilege and advantages the Jewish people have, as they were entrusted with the law and God’s word, making them more accountable to submit to God’s righteousness rather than their own. If some of the Jewish people did not believe in Yeshua, the promised Messiah, it does not mean that God is unrighteous. On the contrary, it demonstrates that those who are privileged bear the same responsibility to submit to God’s righteousness as those who are not.

Well, Shalom everyone and welcome to the Bible Classes of the Holy Scriptures in Israel. And we are going to continue with our study of the book of Romans. And we have arrived to the third chapter of the book of Romans, the letter that our apostles, Shaul Paul wrote. An amazing letter that is very helpful for us to understand what God is thinking of the human race and the provision of salvation through the person of the Lord Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah. So let's pray together. We just commit ourselves to the Lord and then we will begin with the reading of Romans chapter 3. So our God and our Father, thank you for your word.
We ask your blessing upon it, for we ask it in Yeshua, in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. So will you please, my dear friends and dear brothers and sisters, turn with me to Romans chapter 3. And I would like to read, I would like to read, actually, I'll read the first 20 verses of Romans chapter 3. We will have the portion before us. Not cover all these verses, but let's please follow me as I'm reading from Romans chapter 3 beginning with verse 1. The Apostle Paul, Shaul Paul, continued to say to the Romans in verse 1 of chapter 3, he says, what advantage then has the Jew? Or what profit is there of circumcision?
Way chiefly because unto them chiefly because that unto them were committed the oracles of God for what if some did not believe shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect God forbid yeah let God be true and every man a liar as it is written that thou mightest justified in thy saying, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, what shall we say then? Is God unrighteous, who taketh vengeance? I speak as a man. God forbid, for then how shall God judge the world? For if the truth of God has more abounded through my lie unto his glory, why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
What then? Are we better than they? No, in no wise, for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles that they are all under sin. As it is written, there is none righteous, no, not one. There is none that understandeth. There is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way. They are together become unprofitable. There is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulcher. With their tongue they have used deceit. The poison of asp is under their lips, whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. Their feet are swift to shed blood. And misery are in their ways, and the way of peace have they not known.
There is no fear of God before their eyes. Now we know that what thinks soever the law saith, it saith unto them who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty And I will stop here, brothers and sisters and dear friends, with verse 20 of our chapter, although I don't think we will arrive there in our study today to verse 20. Of the most important letters that we have really in the new testament new covenant in the brit the apostle Shaul Paul is writing to a local assembly that he didn't visit he said to them specifically three things as he was writing to them he said to them i am a debtor to all i am ready to come to you to teach to you the truth the gospel and it's all the truth the body of truth of the truth of the word of God and i'm not ashamed of the gospel of the Messiah because it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believed to the Jew first and also unto the Gentile unto the Greek and after he said these very interesting verses in Romans 1 and verse 14 15 and 16 he did say for therein in this gospel in this In other words, Paul is saying this body of truth, of the gospel, of the best sora in Hebrew, of the glad tidings, there is the righteousness of God is revealed to all mankind.
And that gospel, of course, is the. The Mashiach Yeshua came to this world God the son took union humanity with his divine nature was born to the virgin Miriam became a man lived a perfect life here on earth and then ultimately he died a substitutionary death then he was buried and he rose again for the justification of all those that will believe on him Jesus the Messiah, God's righteousness is attributed to him or to her. And a sinner becomes a child of God. This is amazing. Then, if you remember, we have covered the rest of chapter 1 all the way to the end of chapter 2, beloved brothers and sisters and dear friends.
Book of Romans, Paul, Shaul Paul, presented before the believers at Rome the very fact, beloved brothers and sisters, that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. He declared the pagan, gentle, guilty before God, chapter 1, 18 to 32. Or the culture a Gentile guilty before God chapter 2 verses 1 to 16 and he declared the religious Jewish person guilty before God in chapter 2 verse 17 all the way to the end of chapter 2 and now he's moving in chapter 3 verses 1 to 8 to present before us additional information concerning the Jewish people and I believe it is very important the reason it is so important to understand these verses in Romans chapter 3 verses 1 to 8 concerning the Jewish people especially today why especially today because when the apostle Shaul Paul wrote the book of Romans he wrote it in about 60 AD and you and I live today in some 2 000 years later and why it is important to understand that in light of the present day a condition of the assembly of the church it it is only to show us that with respect to the Jewish people and their privileges that they had and with respect to the believers in Jesus the Messiah of the church age.
Groups have been so privileged to be elected by God, and yet at the same time both have proven that they failed. And it is only the grace of God that maintains the promises that he promised to his own people, whether it is Israel, the nation, here on earth, or whether it is the church in heaven at the Father's house. Immediately after the conclusion of chapter 2 where we do read, beloved brothers and sisters, that all the privileges that the Jewish people have had, they received the law and they were blessed by receiving the law of God, but because of pride and because of the sin nature because they didn't realize that the law was not given for salvation but to give them a moral conduct that should lead them ultimately to the knowledge of the Messiah and when they did not accept that Messiah himself they became guilty before God and the law that was given to them did not make them suitable for the presence of God because it still revealed their sin nature just like to the moral Gentile or to the pagan Gentile, because all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.
You will see that by the time we will get to the 20th verse, we will come to this condition that the pagan Gentile will be condemned because they have sinned God's creation. The moral cultured Gentile, they will be condemned because in their conscience they are guilty because. Conscience condemned them and the religious Jewish person would be condemned before God because he has God's law and all have failed and all have come short of the glory of God that's why we do read in Romans 3 and verse 23 as we read there in verse 23 for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and now in this section in chapter 3 as the apostle continues to develop this he's kind of pausing and and kind of asking you know people might have objection you know how we often time have objection and you can see that in the first eight verses we have a Paul can see some object to God's ways whereby he's leading someone to receive a justification to be right with him and and so you'll see that you have in these eight verses three questions and also three answers and so in Roman 3 verses 1 to 8 Paul does say that although the Jewish people fail under the law and the law.
As we have already read they were circumcised and they received the law and you remember as we have read in this section that they were spoken about the Jew you that are a Jew and you rest in the law verse 17 and you make your boast in God and you know it his will and you approve of things that are more excellent being instructed out of the law and are confident that thou thyself are a guide of the blind and a light to them that are in darkness this is verses 17 18 and 19 of chapter 2 you are an instruction to the foolish and you are teacher to the babe and then he's saying to them in verse 20 you therefore which teaches another don't you teach yourself in other words what he's really showing that the law only reveals.
Person that it shows that the law actually revealed the reality in his heart and he should have turned to God in repentance and accepted the provision of God but not to be proud and arrogant that you say I'm a guide and I'm a teacher and I'm able to instruct everyone because I have the law and I am the one that resting in the law and I'm making my boast in God after all I'm part of the chosen earthly people of God. So after this, in chapter 3, we have these eight verses, very interesting, beloved brothers and sisters, lest the Roman believers in the Lord Jesus, lest you and I will think for a moment that God's dealing with Israel come to an end because Israel was found guilty before God.
Don't? He's really wanted to. Teach the believers then don't you for a moment forget that God still has his dealing with his earthly people of Israel and he will ultimately bring them into the future blessing that he promised his people. God did not make a mistake by choosing the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. It was in the plan and in the program and in the purpose of God. And for a moment he's really saying to the Romans, don't you think that God have done away with the people of Israel? Here he gives us in these eight verses a glimpse of what he will say much more later on in Romans chapter 9, chapter 10, and chapter 11 of Israel's past history, Israel's present condition, and Israel's future prospect, according to the plan of God and so there are three questions here in Romans chapter 3 and verses 1 to 8 there are three objections that some may raise and Paul is responding to the objection that will rise by any believers and so you notice let me just read it so the question notice the first question is found in verse then has the Jew?
Well, if God declared the Jewish person guilty, just like he declared the moralist Gentile guilty, just like he declared the pagan from among the Gentile guilty, so what's the point? What advantage then has the Jewish people? Is God for nothing just chosen a nation? And maybe God made a mistake after all. Question what advantage has the Jew or what prophet is there in circumcision so what's the point one might say why did God chose this nation the Jewish nation and the Jewish people to remind you that by the time that apostle Paul wrote the people of Israel will recognize the whole nation the whole tribe were recognized as the Jewish people.
And let me also remind you that Apostle Paul, who wrote this letter to the Romans, the Romans didn't have the whole canon of Scripture. So he's turning them, he will turn them back to the Hebrew Scriptures and he will show them from the Scripture, from the Hebrew Scriptures, the plan and the purposes of God. So someone might ask what advantage has the Jew or what profit. In circumcision why is it that God made this gave this commandment for the Jewish people gave them the law on Mount Sinai gave them the circumcision command in Genesis chapter 17 to their forefather Abraham and Isaac and Jacob inaugurated into the law in Exodus chapter in Leviticus chapter 12 why the whole thing of being Jewish and being circumcised what's the point someone might ask And this is very important because today, especially today, and it was already in the last 2,000 years of church history, where people said, well, the Jewish people has no more future.
The church replaced the Jewish people. The Jewish people fail, and therefore God has chosen the church. Now you could say it maybe 2,000 years ago, but not now. After you know the history of the church in the last two thousand years of church history and you and I are part of it because we are part of the church and we can see our failure our part is part of the heavenly company the assembly the ecclesia and so two thousand years ago the early believers and Romans could say well so what advantage has the Jewish people if God have chosen us but today for us as believers having the whole canon of Scripture we really have a lot more information of church history.
And we can see that all of us have failed. The pagan, the moralists, and the religious. The nation of Israel as the people of God, and the church, the assembly, the ecclesia as the people of God. We have all failed. Sovereignty of God that although all have failed unbelievers as well as believers the sovereign plan of God does not change and the purposes of God do not change whatsoever and so notice that when the question is being asked what advantage then has the Jewish people or the Jewish individual or what profit is in of the circumcision Paul now give an answer and you notice in verse 2 that the advantage that the Jewish people have notice Paul is saying much and then in every way and then he continue mostly because unto them unto the Jewish people unto the nation of Israel were committed the oracles of God.
In other words, beloved brothers and sisters, God in His wisdom and also in His will. It's not because Abraham's descendants were better than other descendants, but it is simply the sovereign choice of God who has His own will. Have elected Abraham Isaac Jacob and the 12 tribes of Israel to give to them the oracles of God in other words for for oracles another word for oracles is the utterances the utterances of God that word oracles of God is mentioned a few times in the new covenant in the and I would like you to turn with me to Roman chapter 9 for a moment Roman chapter 9 and there a little bit later on we'll get to Roman chapter 9 and 10 and 11 because the Roman chapter 9 10 and 11 we have a developed truth concerning God's dealing with his earthly people of Israel but in Roman chapter 9 and verse 4 it says to whom pertaining the adoption and the glory and the covenant and notice the giving of the Torah the law the word of God the utterances of God and the service of God and the promises it continues also to say whose are the fathers and of whom concerning the flesh the Mashiach came.
All God blessed forever in a wisdom and the purposes of God beloved brothers and sisters God have chosen it this way that through the Jewish people who fail like all other nations even under the law in fact the law only condemned them and yet God has shown that through the Jewish people he will bring into the world his word the oracles of God and ultimately the covenants and the promises and ultimately the Mashiach himself the Messiah Yeshua because you and I believe that Jesus that Yeshua is the Messiah on what basis? On the basis of the oracles of God we believe because we read unto us a child is born unto us a son is given.
Government shall be upon his shoulder that's the oracles of God that's the word of God that's the promises of God and he's given it to the nation of Israel to the Jewish people to be used by God to bring to the world to the Romans here as Paul and by the way don't forget also Paul being a Jewish man as well as he himself said in act chapter man who am a Jew. In Acts 22:3 I am a man who am a Jew. He used the Jewish people to bring to the world the oracle of God. Now you see the problem was when those from among the Jewish people who have been priding themselves, that was not the intention of God that the Jewish people will pride themselves, of course not.
He wanted them to be a. Channel a blessing to the world and through them the oracles of God was given and so what we have in Romans chapter 9 it's extremely interesting verse 4 and verse 5 to them as Paul is mentioning in chapter 9 and verses 4 and 5 through the nation of Israel also the giving of the Torah the law and the law is not only the ten commandments and the law is not only the whole a law that God had given in the book of Exodus but it is the whole word of God from Genesis to Malachi and also in the brita the new covenant from Matthew to Revelation if there were only one that were not perhaps Hebrews Lucas, Luke.
But the rest, and notice he does say here, that unto them were given, notice he does say unto them were given some of the oracles of God, but unto them were given the oracles of God. Could you also go back to Acts chapter 7? In Acts chapter 7 and verse 38, when Stephen. When Stephen was speaking and sharing the gospel with the Sanhedrin, with the leaders of Israel, Stephen says, and notice that, Acts chapter 7 and verse 38, fathers who receive the living oracles to give unto us it's interesting a word here the oracles of God in Hebrew it is called dvar ha Elohim dvar ha Elohim notice another verse in Romans i'm sorry in Hebrews chapter 5 listen to this another verse interesting verse in Hebrews chapter 5 and there the author saying in verse 12 for when for a time ye ought to be teachers he's writing to the early Hebrew believers who by now should have been teachers he says to them ye have a need that one teach you again which is the first principles of the oracles of God.
The oracles of God these early Hebrew believers should have been by now teachers but because they did not grow in appreciation of the word of God they needed somebody else to teach them their beloved brothers and sisters there's one more verse that I want to read in the epistle to Peter concerning the word the oracles of God 1st Peter chapter 4 the apostle Shimon Petro said in chapter 4 and verse 11 if any man speak let him speak as the oracles of God whenever we preach the word and share the word of God we have to realize that we are speaking the word of the Lord and so to speak as if it is directly from the Lord of course it is coming from the.
Written word. And therefore, the believers who share the word and minister the word of God speak as the oracles of God. It's not the oracles of man. It is the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord. Thus says the Lord, we read in the word of God. Now, one more portion, if I may, please, beloved brothers and sisters, there is a portion in Psalm 147, that we need to read concerning the people of Israel receive the oracles of God to give to the world and that's why Paul says what advantage then has the Jew Romans chapter 3 and verse 1 or what prophet it is of circumcision verse 1 the question and then the answer much every way and chiefly because unto them were committed the oracles of God God's word God's.
A message to the world the oracles of God were given to the people of Israel to give to the world and you and i are so are to be so thankful that holy men of God spake as they were moved by the holy Spirit and so we're reading Psalm 147 from verse 12 and i'm reading praise the Lord o Jerusalem praise thy God o Zion For he has strengthened the bars of thy gates. He has blessed thy children within thee. He maketh peace in thy borders and filleth thee with the fineness of the wheat. He sendeth forth his commandments upon earth. His word runneth very swiftly. Wool he scatters the the whole frost like ashes he casteth forth his eyes like morsels who can stand before he's called he sendeth out his word notice that and melteth them he causes his wind to blow and the waters to flow and then he showered or he showeth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and judgments unto Israel.
He has not dealt so with any nation. And as for his judgments, they have not known them. Praise ye the Lord. He showeth his word unto Jacob, his statutes and his judgments. Unto Israel. You have never dealt with any other nation like you have dealt with that one nation. Now again, brothers and sisters, why Paul was so placing these eight verses right here. He could have just stopped it here and just continue on into the declaration that all are guilty before the Lord. And yet there is a reason for that. And I think it is good for us to understand it because God still Israel has a plan for the future.
And because the church age in which you and I live in is a mystery that was hid in God and was not revealed to men, to the sons of men, before in days of old, and you and I have been blessed to be part of the ecclesia, the called out ones from among the nation of Israel and the nation of the world, and we belong to the heavenly company, the bride of Christ, the bride of the Messiah. We belong to the Father's house, we belong to the Lord Jesus, part of the ecclesia, called out one, and these church days will come to an end. What will happen later?
And so Paul is showing to the Christians, to the believers, don't you forget that God hasn't ended his program for his elect people, Israel. And why it is also important, because if God will not be faithful to the nation of Israel, how can you and I who are part of the assembly, the church today, be sure that God will be faithful to the church? How? Because if Israel fails under the law, you can understand God judging them. Much more to give. So if God will not be faithful to the church, to the assembly, and he will not be faithful to Israel, what will happen? Is God unfaithful because man is unfaithful?
Did God change his mind because his own people failed? That's what Paul is seeking to convey as he's answering these questions. First question and the first objection will be well what what advantage then why God make this election and chose the Jewish people commanded them to be circumcised gave them the law why well the answer is in verse 2 simply because to them it was given they have an advantage in much and in every way because to them God gave the law of God and you Romans and you and I today receive the oracles of God because God has chosen the people to give them through and even the Messiah God has given how would we know who is Christ who is the Mashiach we need to have the oracles of God and we need to recognize that it is the oracles of God are indeed the truth the word of God and it is not the words of men.
Why God gave us the whole history of the people of Israel in what is known, what is called Old Testament. It's really not old. It is fresh as it was ever. It is the history that was recorded for us because God wants us to know how he brought about the fact that the Mashiach had come in the fullness of the time. And that the Mashiach will come in the second coming and will restore his people Israel to himself in the future day. Church aid leave in between and he's saying to the Romans don't you forget that because yes all have sinned but it doesn't change the purposes of God now notice the second objection comes in the next verses in verses three and four the second question of course well if then God's promises have been given he have elected a nation through them he gave the oracles of God the Messiah came to this world well is God then unfaithful because of Israel's unbelief as a nation notice that in the next verse it says in verse 3 it says what notice that for what if some notice the word some what if some did not believe shall their unbelief of that some make the faith of God or the faithfulness of God without effect.
Notice the second question that may arise. Well, look, some did not believe. Now that some, of course, is the majority of the nation of Israel, especially in the context of first century. But remember, beloved brothers and sisters, that the church in the first century, in the city of Jerusalem and in the land of Israel, was 100% made of Jewish believers. Everyone of the church of the assembly in the early days in the land of Israel was a Hebrew Jewish Israeli believers. So some is the remaining of the nation did not believe so what does that mean does that mean now the question is being raised if some did not believe shall there the unbelieving Jewish people who didn't believe that Yeshua is the Messiah shall their unbelief make the faith, or more correctly, the faithfulness of God without effect?
God, beloved brothers and sisters, is faithful to keep every promise that he gave to his people in his word, in spite of the fact that his people were unfaithful. We have to say it in the same way concerning the body of Christ, the church. God is faithful to fulfill every promise that He has given to the ecclesia, to the assembly. Even though the assembly, the church, fail and were unfaithful to God. That's the lesson that we learn. Of the believers at Rome who might say well what if some of them did not believe? Shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect? In other words is God not able to bring about his promises to his people?
God forbid he says by the way you notice that in verse 2 where he says what is advantage of the Jew or what prophet is in circumcision he says much and in every way because to them were given the oracle of God here when someone might say what if some did not believe in other words we read the Scripture we read the promises of God to Abraham to Isaac to Jacob to the nation of Israel i will bless you and it will make you a great nation and i will make you a blessing to the nations of the of the world and i will give you the land of Canaan and so on all the blessing that he had promised to Israel and if they if they if some of them did not accept the word of God and accept the Messiah at his first coming and were unfaithful before the Messiah has come does that.
Change the promises of God? Now just imagine, beloved brothers and sisters, look at your life and mine. Are you faithful all the time? Are you obedient all the time? Do you always follow the Lord Jesus the Messiah? We know that it's not true about our own self. So how can you be sure that you are saved? How can you be sure that God will give you heaven you see what Paul is saying the unfaithfulness of God's people does not change for a moment the faithfulness of God he's faithful and that's why Paul is saying in the answer he says God forbid verse 4 God may it never be yeah let God be true and every man a liar and notice as is It is written, and he's quoting what David said in the book of Tehillim, in the Psalm, where David said, Thou, that thou might be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome them thou art when thou art judged.
Plan is people will try to to we might say to shake the promises of God and the apostle said let God be true and every man a liar turn with me to first John chapter one you see when someone says that God has ended his promises verses to Israel, and that God's plan and program have been changed and diverted from what God has said in his word, we're actually calling God a liar. 1 John 1 tells us this: "If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar." is not in us. But then earlier, if we confess our sins, verse 9, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
In 1 John chapter 5 we read, notice that. There we read in verse 10, He that believeth on the Son of God has the witness in himself. He that believeth not God hath made him a liar because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And beloved brothers and sisters, the record of the coming of the Son, the Mashiach, the Messiah to this world is recorded in the Hebrew Scripture. The record that was given one is calling God a liar that's why Paul answer here in verse 4 and he says let God be true and every man a liar and David of course he's quoting as it is written now it is beautiful to see how many a time the apostle Shaul Paul is emphasizing the fact that it has been written.
It had been written. Throughout the Word of God you'll find out that the apostle Paul and other apostles quoting the Hebrew Scriptures to say it is written. It is written. It is the Word of God. It is written. In Romans chapter 1 and verse 17 we read, For therein the righteousness of God revealed from faith unto faith as it is written that just shall live by faith. Habakkuk chapter 2 and verse 4. In Romans chapter 2, which we have already covered, for the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. Quoting Isaiah 52 and verse 5. Here in Romans chapter 3 and verse 4, the Apostle Paul says, God forbid, let God be true in every man a liar, as it is written.
Quoting Psalm 51 and verse 4. The next verses in verse 10, we will read again, as it is written, there is none righteous, no one is quoting Psalm 14 and verse 1. In Romans chapter 4 and verse 17, he will say, as it is written, I've made thee a father of many nations, a father of many nations concerning Abraham, quoting Genesis 17 and verse 5. And I can go on and go on. 60 he will say as it is written for thy sake we are killed all the day long we are accounted a sheep for the slaughter quoting the psalmist of Israel in Psalm 44 in verse 22 and we can go on Romans the book of Roman this expression as it is written mentioned again and again and again quoting the Scripture quoting the oracles of God beloved brothers and sisters Because what advantage has the Jew?
And what profit is there of circumcision? Well, he's not a prophet in a sense of pride and arrogant. What advantage do they have? The Jewish people are lost just like the non-Jewish people. We all have sinned. With respect to salvation, the Jewish people have no advantage whatsoever. To faith in God's provision as the gentle individual has to come to faith in God's provision and then receive forgiveness of sins and salvation. But the advantage was in a sense that God had committed to the Jewish people the oracles of God. Like Moshe and like Yehoshua and we can go on Shmoel all were people of God and men of God as we read holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit there were people are redeemed people from among the nation of Israel who ministered the word of God to their brethren initially but then later on they have given it to us today and the early apostles who came from among the nation of Israel have given to us today the Word of God.
They are not having advantage when it comes to salvation, but Israel was chosen to be a nation through whom the Word of God, the oracles of God will be given to this world. So the two objections found in verse 1 and 2, objection number 1. In verses 3 and 4, objection number 2. Objection number 1 was what advantage has the Jew? The answer is found in verse 2, much and in every way because, chiefly because unto them were committed the utterances of God. In Hebrew, divrei ha'Elohim, dvar ha'Elohim. The second objection and question, well, what then? If they did not believe, if some of them did not believe, He says, what is God now?
God's faithfulness become of none effect? And he says, no whatsoever. God forbid. Let God be true and every man a liar. As it is written, God ultimately will be justified in whatever he says, David says in Psalm 51 and verse 4. That thou mightest be justified in thy saying, in what you say, in your word, you will be justified. That you might overcome when thou art judged. When people come before God, they say, God, you are not, what you said is not true. All your promises are not real because here, look, you promised this to Israel and Israel has not come to faith in Yeshua the Messiah and haven't been restored to God.
God is saying, in time, it will come to fruition. And that is helpful for us today, beloved brothers and sisters, when we hear so much of replacement theology that the church replaced Israel and God's promises to Israel is done. Well, if God's promises to Israel is done because of their unfaithfulness, then we can never be sure that God's promises to the church will come to fruition but because God is faithful and his promises are sure he will bring everything to fruition and we can go to many many of the passages of the Hebrew Scriptures that tells us that God will restore his people Israel he that scatter Israel will gather them and will establish the future messianic kingdom when Israel will recognize that the Mashiach is Yeshua.
And he is the one that came from heaven to give his life a ransom for many. Now look at the third question that is rising here in verses 5, 6, 7, and 8, and you have the question and the answer. So the question is in verse 5, this objection once again, you know, wait, wait, Paul, Paul. And then you see, he says, if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God, What shall we say? Is God unrighteous who takes vengeance? So here's the third objection. So, well, wait a minute, one might say, wow, Israel was behaving in an unrighteous way. And they oftentimes stumble and have gone astray. So if unrighteousness only shows that God can show his own righteousness, well, in other words.
Say well we can do more and more unrighteousness sin more and it's only going to show God's forgiveness and God's righteousness if our notice the word our and it's interesting because the apostle Paul used the word our here he's writing remember the readers are the Roman believers and he's writing now to believers of the assembly at Rome and he's including himself if yours and mine our unrighteousness is our unrighteousness commanded the righteousness of God. In other words, should we, when we fail and we sin as believers, so if our unrighteousness commanded the righteousness of God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who takes vengeance?
In other words, well, so someone might say, well, God, when he judged, he's unrighteous because when we sin, when we do unrighteousness, in other words, God is justified. Judge and how come he can at the same time promise to fulfill all the promises to a people who failed him and so Paul is answering notice that in verse verse six he is again using the word God forbid may it never be verse six for then how shall God judge the world for if the truth of God has more abundant through my lie or my lying unto his glory, why yet am I also judged as a sinner?
So Paul is showing to them that God does discipline his people, even as believers. And he's speaking about himself. He says, notice he's speaking. He says, God forbid, for then how shall God judge the world, he's saying. For if the truth of God has more abounded through my lie unto his glory. Yet, he says, why yet am I also judged as a sinner? In other words, what he's saying, that God is still disciplining sin. He still judged sin in the believer just like he judged sin in the unbeliever. He will judge the world that refused to accept his grace, his provision of salvation through Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah.
He will judge his own people who believe on the Lord Jesus, who believe in Yeshua the Messiah. But when we sin, God disciplined sin. As a father, he judged his own children. He continued to say in the next verse, in verse 8, about the wrong report. He says in verse 8, he said, as believers now, standardly are reported. In other words, it's a false report. And as some affirm that we say, let us do evil, that good may come, whose damnation is just. In other words, some people start to say that our pastor Paul is teaching that you can go on and sin and deny the Lord, live in sin, and that God will be extending his grace to you so you can receive forgiveness.
And this was a lie because the Apostle Paul did not teach such things. In fact, if you turn for a moment to Romans 6 and in the first verses there, what shall we say then, Romans 6 and verse 1? Shall we, this is the believers, continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid. May it never be. How shall we that are dead to sin live any longer than in? So what Paul is really saying, beloved brothers and sisters, in verse 8, actually verses 6, 7, and 8, he says God forbid that we are called to live in righteousness. The believers are called to live a righteous life. Still responsible to live godly life even though they are already believers and part of the family of God some have already gone and said well Paul teach grace and you know it is still today sometimes people would say that well grace because God is gracious and you know if he forgave even if we continue in sinning and He will not discipline us.
Well, let me say this, beloved brothers and sisters. God must judge sin. He judged sin in the unbelievers and He judged sin among His own people. Judgment must begin at the house of God. 1 Peter 4 and verse 17. The unbelievers will be judged, first of all, because they refuse God's ways of salvation. This is the unbelievers. But even the believers, because we are children, sons and daughters of our Abba, God disciplined the believers as well. He disciplined his own children. He chastened us. Dealing with us as an Abba, as a Father who loves us and wants us to live for Him here in this world. And so when Paul has declared by the word of the Lord that all have sinned, he gives us this very interesting clause here in Romans chapter 3 and verses 1 to 8.
It really produces a problem a question you know people are asking until all the time even today so what about Israel what about the Jewish people is Israel having a future was Israel replaced by the church did God's promises that are recorded in the Hebrew Scripture will they come to fruition is God is really true or maybe he just say things and wrote things that gave promises and he's not intending to fulfill them so Paul is expounding here a little bit here in chapter 3 and he will give a lot more information in chapter 9 10 and 11 concerning the Jewish people and the nation of Israel and it is very important to know that beloved brothers and sisters for us today because in Christendom in Christianity there are so many views so many voices.
Among the believers, God's people. Doctrinally, one feel that way, another one feel that way. That's why the church is so divided because of various views that they have doctrinally. And of course, because of various practices that we all fail in submissiveness to the Lord. And then that's why there's so many fractures among the church in these days. Recognize this is so important to understand that God has a plan for the nation of Israel and that the church did not replace Israel and that the church is a composition of Jewish and gentle believers in the present day age that's why the church the word church in the Greek is been called out from all the world from among the Jewish world and among the Gentile world and God has united us into one body that is the ecclesia the heavenly people that belongs to heaven the bride of Christ the bride of the Messiah and the body of Christ the family of God of this God for his earthly people Israel because that is in the plan of God and you know who really want to do away with God's promises to Israel is none else but Satan himself.
Satan wants to do away with God's promises to Israel and I just want to conclude with the verses in Revelation chapter 12 and we will continue in verse 9 in our next meeting together. After the church will be taken to heaven after the assembly the true assembly will be taken to heaven at the rapture there will still be the seven years of the tribulation period where God's earthly people Israel will remain here on earth and will go through Jacob's trouble by the time we arrive to Revelation chapter 12 Satan is cast down to this earth as we read in verse um 8 he says i'll read from verse 7 Revelation 12 7 and there was a war in heaven michael and his angels fought against the dragon and the dragon fought against and his angels and he prevailed not neither was their place found anymore in heaven and the great dragon listen to this this is Satan he was cast out notice then he was cast out that old serpent is called devil and Satan which which deceives the whole world and he was cast.
Out into this earth. The church is in heaven, but on earth there is still activity going on and Satan is cast down to this earth in the middle of the tribulation, the seven years of the tribulation. And what does he do? He is trying to frustrate the plan of God with respect to the nation of Israel. And so we read in the next verses, And it says here, and I'll just go a little bit further down. And when the dragon, listen to this, verse 13, when the dragon saw that he was cast out into this earth, the church is in heaven, he persecuted the woman. That woman is not the church, not the assembly, the church is in heaven.
That woman is the nation of Israel, the Jewish people. And who is that woman? Which brought forth the man child. This is the Messiah, Yeshua, Jesus. During the tribulation, the dragon, Satan, will persecute the woman. And you notice what it says. The woman was given two wings. It's a great eagle that she might flee into the wilderness, the place where she will be nourished for a time, times, and half a time for three and a half years, the second half of the tribulation period. Just to read the last verses here, notice what it says in verse 16. And the earth helped the woman. And the earth opened her mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon cast out of his mouth.
In other words, he speaks of the armies of the Antichrist pursuing after the Jewish people. And verse 17 says that the dragon was wroth. He was angry with the woman. The desire to frustrate the plan of God by Satan himself. And notice he make war with the remnant of her seed which keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Yeshua HaMashiach, of Jesus Christ. Satan wanted to frustrate and he still wants today and he is wanting throughout the ages to do away with the purposes of God for the Jewish people. What advantage has the Jew? The advantage is that God chose the nation of Israel, though failing people, to use them to bring a blessing to the world, to bring the oracles of God to the world, to bring the Messiah to the world, and to bring the messianic kingdom, the thousand years reign of the Messiah in the future day.
Who will be light to the Gentiles. This is the plan of God. We cannot change the plan, the program, and the purposes of God. Though all of us have sinned, but the purposes of God will come true for Israel who failed and for the church who failed. God is true to His Word. And so may the Lord bless us and encourage our hearts As we are starting together from the book of Romans, Romans chapter 3, verses 1 to 8. May the Lord bless his word. Let's pray together and we will conclude with the meeting for today. Father, Abba, we just ask your blessing upon us. Thank you for your word.
Help us to understand it. Help us to understand your plan for Israel, your plan for the church, for the assembly. For we ask it in your precious name. Amen. In the name of Yeshua the Messiah. Well, God bless you, my dear friend. We say shalom, shalom. Until the next time, bye-bye.
