My Heart's Desire Is That Israel Might Be Saved
My Heart's Desire Is That Israel Might Be Saved
The study of the Book of Romans reaches chapter 10, and Brother Gideon Levytam opens with Paul's burden for his people: my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved. The Hebrew word for salvation, yeshuah (יְשׁוּעָה), is the very name of Yeshua. Jewish individuals had believed, the apostles among them, but Israel as a nation was not yet saved. Israel has a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. No nation has carried such devotion from generation to generation: morning prayers in the synagogue, the Sabbath, the feasts. But zeal does not save. Being ignorant of God's righteousness, the nation went about to establish its own righteousness and did not submit to the righteousness of God.
Gideon shows the remedy: the Messiah is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believes. The law was never given to save, but to drive the nation to its need of the Messiah. No one need ascend into heaven to bring the Messiah down, for He has come. No one need descend into the deep to raise Him, for He is risen. The word is near, in the mouth and in the heart (Deuteronomy 30:14). Whoever confesses with his mouth the Lord Yeshua and believes in his heart that God raised Him from the dead is saved. Whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved, Jew and Gentile alike. Paul's prayer will be answered: Israel as a nation will be saved at His return.

Well we want to say shalom and welcome everyone to the Bible classes of the holy Scriptures in Israel and we are studying together the book of Romans right now we've arrived to Romans chapter 10 hopefully you have your Bibles with you available if you may please turn to Romans chapter 10 and we are going to continue in our study of this very important letter that Shaul Paul wrote to the Roman believers in order to help them to understand the truth of the righteousness of God we will pray first of all commit ourselves to the Lord and then we will begin by reading Romans chapter 10 and from the beginning of the chapter verse 1 let's just pray together let's just ask the Lord to bless our meeting and so our God and our Father we want to thank you for your love and care for us thank you that he that keepeth Israel neither slumbers nor sleep and we just ask your blessing upon the reading of your word in Romans chapter 10 blessed to us all we pray.
For we ask it in Yeshua in Jesus our Messiah's name Amen Amen so let us please beloved brothers and sisters turn to Romans chapter 10 I would like to read some of the portion of the book of Roman especially the first 13 verses in Romans chapter 10 for this meeting for today so that Apostle Paul continues to help the Roman believers as he presents before them the amazing letter with so much information concerning the righteousness of God. And so Paul says in chapter 10 and verse 1, Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
For they, being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God. For Christ, for Mashiach, Messiah, is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth. For Moses describes the righteousness which is of the law, that the man which doeth those things shall live by them. But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise. Say not in thine heart, who shall ascend into heaven? That is, to bring Christ, to bring the Mashiach, down from above. Or who shall descend into the deep? That is, to bring up Christ, the Messiah, again from the dead.
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth and in thine heart. That is the word of faith which we preach, that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Yeshua, the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart a man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek. For the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. And I'm stopping here with verse 13. This chapter is so helpful for us to understand why the nation of Israel is a nation in its totality, is not yet a redeemed, a saved nation. And because the apostle Shaul Paul was writing this important information to the Roman believers in the city of Rome, he is seeking to help them to understand, especially in this second beloved brothers and sisters that we are studying now Romans 9 Romans 10 and Romans 11 he seeks to help them to understand why Israel as a nation in its totality do not believe that Yeshua that Jesus is the Messiah in this present day and that's why this this section Romans 9 10 and 11 the theme of Romans 9 10 and 11 in the book of Roman is the righteousness of God in relationship to the nation of Israel I should say even more it is the sovereign the sovereignty of God in relationship to the nation of Israel in this present day remember that in our study we often use this expression or these five s's to explain the whole book of Romans sin salvation sanctification sovereignty and service and when it's come to the sovereignty.
Of God Romans 9 10 and 11 the apostle Paul seek to present before the Romans the answer that they need how they need to know how come Israel as a nation is not yet a redeemed nation if Israel had all the privileges that they have had you remember in chapter 9 the apostle Paul reminded the Roman believers that those that are Israelis to them belong the adoption the glory the covenant the giving of the Lord the service of God the promises the fathers and even the Mashiach the Messiah came out of the nation of Israel the Lord Jesus the Messiah came from the nation of Israel and for the whole world well if Israel gave to the world the Mashiach the Messiah how come Israel the nation did not accept him as a nation at his first coming and this is exactly what Shaul Paul is seeking to communicate here in these three chapters Romans 10 and 9 10 and 11 let me just remind you in Romans 9 which we concluded with in our previous meetings.
He spoke of Israel past privileges now in this 10th chapter that we are entering into He is speaking about Israel's present partial blindness, Israel's problem. And thirdly, he will speak later on, as we will continue in chapter 11, he will speak about Israel's prospect salvation and regeneration that is yet to come in the future day. So now notice this, beloved brothers and sisters, in the first few verses of our chapter, Especially here in chapter 10 and verses 1 to 4, he presents before the Romans the problem that the nation of Israel as a nation had. Let me just point out that the whole chapter, this is the 10th chapter, shows us that Israel as a nation, verses 1 to 4, did not receive God's righteousness.
Secondly he will present Israel as a nation they did not receive God's word when the Messiah came and they didn't accept the promise from the word of God concerning the coming of Yeshua Jesus the second coming later on in verses 14 to 17 he will show to us that Israel as a nation did not receive God's messengers which were sent to the nation and finally in verses 18 to 21 Israel failed to receive the love of God that was evident in the coming of the Messiah Yeshua Jesus of whom we read John 3 16 for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth on him shall not perish but have everlasting life and so you will see that as we are going moving along in this 10th chapter that you can see the fact that Israel initially did not receive the righteousness of God now notice that and I'm reading in chapter 10 first of all in verses 1 and 2 we do read beloved brothers and sisters that Paul had this burden in his heart and you.
Know Paul Shaul although being a Hebrew a Jewish man was called by the Lord Jesus the Messiah to be the apostle to the nations to the Gentiles to the goyim yet he always expressed the heart of the Messiah towards the nation of Israel and again as he has mentioned in chapter 9 that he had such a sorrow in his heart in chapter 9 and verse 2 that he was wishing that he could be a curse from the Messiah for his brethren his kinsmen according to the flesh who are Israelis here in chapter 10 verse 1 and 2 he says it again in a different way and he says brethren he's speaking now to the Roman believers in the Lord Jesus the Messiah who were his brethren in the Spirit in Christ in the Messiah and he's saying to them brethren my heart desire and prayer to God for Israel that they might be saved he says this is my heart desire i want to see my people a saved nation.
A redeemed nation and you know he's emphasizing this once again after he already wrote in chapter 9 and verses 2 and 3 how much sorrow he had in his heart here once again he's opening his heart in chapter 9 he said I have sorrows in my heart in chapter 10 he said my heart desire verse 1 and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved. Now notice he used the word saved. The Hebrew word for saved is Yeshua. Yeshua is the name of Yeshua, Jesus. You shall call his name Yeshua, Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins. So, Paul is longing for the salvation of the nation of Israel.
And that's why in verse 1 you can see his desire. He desired Israel's salvation. Israel as a nation at the first coming of the Messiah did not see the need to be saved because after all, they thought that because they are the chosen people of God, they have the word of God, the Torah, the law, the prophets, and the writing. And so when the Messiah came, they did not anticipate or accept him at his first coming as it was foretold by the prophets of Israel, like Isaiah 53 that says that when we shall see him we will not acknowledge him we will not recognize him we will not accept him all we like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way Isaiah 53 and verse 6 and so when the Mashiach came at his first coming some 2,000 years ago because the spiritual leaders of Israel have departed from the biblical instruction and have introduced rabbinical instruction there was a cloud that was upon the nation not recognizing that he, that Yeshua, that Jesus was truly the Mashiach and so Paul is saying in verse 1 brethren, my heart desire and prayer to God for Israel that they might be saved.
You see, the word for save, Yeshua, salvation, means that Israel, as a nation, although individuals, Jewish people, were already saved, all the apostles were Jewish believers who were saved, were forgiven, who have accepted the Lord, but the whole nation was not as yet. Waiting the day of the second coming of the Mashiach when all Israel shall be saved we will speak about it in Romans chapter 11 so Paul is longing and he's praying for the salvation of Israel Israel the Jewish leadership did not see the need to be saved because after all we have the law we have the prophets we have the writings and and we are okay and that is the problem that the religious leaders of Israel had they assumed that they were righteous they assumed that they were justified they assumed that they were right with God by the traditions by the various manners in which they lived their lives but they didn't come to know to acknowledge that as sinners they need a Mashiach, the Messiah and especially beloved brothers and sisters they failed to recognize the timing of the Messiah's coming at his first coming that he will fulfill the promises that we have throughout the word of God.
He is the seed of the woman. He is the seed of Abraham, the seed of Yitzhak, the seed of Yaakov, the seed of Israel. He is the Messiah, but they fail to recognize him. And so what we learn here that the desire the hard desire of Shaul Paul was for the salvation of Israel and we have to realize this beloved brothers and sisters people by nature are lost all of us by nature we are lost all each person that was born into this world with a sin nature he or she are lost by nature we must be saved except a man be born again he shall not see the kingdom of God for the son of man for the son of God came to this world to seek and to save them which were lost that's why the Messiah came that's why God had to send the Mashiach so Paul is praying for Israel that they will be saved and i'm just mentioning that and emphasizing that if someone is not saved he or she are lost and one have to turn to the person of the Lord Jesus the Messiah to be saved and so Paul is praying for the nation of Israel in verse 10 but now he gives us He helps the Romans to understand.
He says in verse 2, he says, I bear them record. I'm going to tell you, I'm bearing record that they have a zeal of God. They have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge, not according to the full biblical knowledge that is given to us by the word of God. You see, to have knowledge Israel had, but to have a right knowledge, to have a full knowledge, it is altogether another thing. You see, it's just to remind us, beloved brothers and sisters, for all people, not only for Israel, our people, not only for the Jewish people, If somebody has a knowledge about God, he might know the verses from the Bible.
He or she might be able to quote certain Bible verses, to be in a meeting congregation where they hear the word, and they can be religious yet lost. You see, relationship with God is not merely an outward religion, but it is a person have to come to a point that he or she are lost by nature and they need forgiveness of sins. And that is the desire of the Apostle Paul, he bearing them record, bearing Israel record that they have a zeal of God. You know, beloved brothers and sisters, I don't think any nation can outshine the religious community of the people of Israel with the zeal that they have for the God of our fathers.
For my little boy, I remember my grandfather rising up very early in the morning when they knock on his window, they said to him, Yosef, morning pray, shacharit. And he would get up in the morning and he would go to the synagogue and he would love the God of Israel, the God of our fathers. The zeal that one has and that Israel, the nation, has. I mean, the very fact that the 3,500 years of the history of the Jewish people since coming out of the land of Egypt, they're carrying from generation to generation a zeal for God. Keeping the Shabbat, celebrating the feast of the Lord, maintaining all sorts of religious activities and faithfully committing to themselves the purpose in a zealousness to seek to do so.
But all that does not save. And why? Because the best of men, the best of what we can do for God, Salvation is something that God does for man. The law was never given for Israel in order that Israel will be saved. The law was given to Israel in order that Israel will be driven to the need, to the realization that they need the Messiah, to turn them to the coming of the Messiah, the zeal that they have. And I know that there are many professing Christians or many groups of people in the world that they have such a zeal for their God. But it's not sufficient.
It doesn't save the sinner. We have a problem. We have a sin nature. And sin must be punished by a holy and a righteous God. But that same holy and a righteous God is a loving God also. And he doesn't want a punishment that's why he provided a way of salvation by sending the Mashiach the Messiah to this world and so having a zeal of God but notice that it is not according to and the thought here it is not according to full knowledge It is not according to full knowledge. And so now, as Paul continues on, he is now describing the problem that Israel has.
And I suggest that all of us by nature have it. What is the problem? He continues now in verse 3. For they are ignorant of God's righteousness, And they are going about to establish their own righteousness. And they have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. Notice how many times he's using the word righteousness. In Hebrew the word is tzedakah, lehitztadak. And how can one receive the righteousness of God? Tzedakah Elohim. You know, our father Abraham, according to, if you turn with me for a moment to Genesis chapter 15, notice what we read concerning our father Abraham. We do read that it says in verse 6, Abraham understood that if he's going to become, to be declared righteous, and if he's going to receive the righteousness of God, it is based not upon what he does but upon whom he believed and so we read in Genesis 15 and verse 6 and he believed in the Lord and he this is the Lord counted it to him for righteousness In other words, Abraham was declared by God, by the Lord, righteous on the basis of the fact that he simply believed God and believed what God said in his word.
Although he didn't have the information that the nation of Israel had when the Messiah came at his first coming although he didn't have the information that you and I have today because we have the complete canon of Scripture but he believed God and God counted it for him for righteousness so notice that verse 3 they are being ignorant or misinformed they don't have full knowledge of God's righteousness and they are going about to establish their own righteousness now imagine beloved brothers and sisters to seek to establish your own righteousness what you do what you don't do what you keep what you don't keep and seeking or assuming that on the basis of what you're doing, God will accept you and will forgive your sins and will declare you righteous?
Notice, they are seeking about to accomplish their own righteousness. I would suggest to you that this is exactly what the religious community of the whole world today, it's not only applied to Israel. In the religious world, There are many who seek to accomplish their own righteousness based upon their religious system. But how can an unrighteous person will be righteous? On our own, we have an inside problem. We have a sin problem. We cannot achieve righteousness. We might try to keep everything, to keep a day to God, to keep a feast for God, to keep a, to try to do our best, turn the leaf and every year and try to do our best and to say I begin with a new, a new leaf, begin a new year, begin a new season, begin a new, seek to do, achieve, to be, to be the best I can for God.
But this sin nature is still there. We fail. So God provided a righteousness for sinners, knowing that they will fail. And so notice that Paul's saying, although they have a zeal of God, verse 2, which is not according to full knowledge, verse 2, And they are being misinformed, ignorant, misinformed of God's righteousness. How wonderful to know the righteousness of God. No wonder, if you turn back to chapter 1 for a moment, we are oftentimes referring to Romans 1, verse 16 and 17, these two verses. Because the theme of the book of Romans is the righteousness of God. And so Romans 1.16 says, Paul says, I'm not ashamed of the gospel of the Messiah.
Why, Paul? Because it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth. To the Jew first, and then also to the Greeks. And then he says, for therein, in the gospel, what is the gospel? That the Messiah came from heaven, Emmanuel, as Isaiah mentioned, that he died, and that he was punished for our sins on the cross, on the tree, and then he was buried, and then he rose on the third day. That's the good news. That's the gospel. In the gospel, Paul is saying in verse 17, for therein the righteousness of God is revealed from faith unto faith. As it is written, the just shall live by faith.
So, this is the theme, beloved brothers and sisters, of the whole book of Romans, the righteousness of God. In fact, Romans 1, 2, and 3, righteousness was needed. Romans 4 and 5, righteousness was provided. Romans 6, 7, and 8, righteousness need to be practiced by believers. Romans 9, 10, and 11, righteousness is rejected by the nation at the first coming of the Messiah. In Romans chapter 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, righteousness should be serving God here in this world. The theme of the book of Romans is tzidkat ha-Elohim, the righteousness of God so they've been ignorant of God's righteousness. And going about to establish their own righteousness notice that at the end of verse three they have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God notice the righteousness of God God can declare a sinner righteous why because a sinner who believed in Yeshua Jesus the Messiah that he paid a penalty for his or her sins God can declare the believer in Yeshua Jesus that he or she is righteous.
Now remember the verse that we read in Isaiah chapter 64 and verse 5 and 6. This is the voice of the people of Israel that they will say in a future day at the second coming of the Messiah they will say you mittest him that rejoice and worketh righteousness those that remember thee in thy way behold thou art wrath you are angry for we have sinned in those is a continuance and we shall be saved but we are all as unclean thing and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags and we all do fade as a leaf and our iniquities like the wind. Have taken us away you see Israel in the future they will say all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags and this is so true your righteousness and my righteousness that come out of this all sin nature are filthy rags but the righteousness of God one can receive as he or she come to know the price that was paid when a Mashiach Yeshua died for us on the cross so in verses 1 2 and 3 we can see Paul's burden and the fact that Israel did not submit themselves unto the righteousness of God, being ignorant or misinformed of that which can provide for them righteousness.
And so, beloved brothers and sisters, notice what he says in verse 4. In verse 4, the Apostle Paul says, for Christ Christ is a Greek come from the Greek word christos from the Hebrew word God had promised the Mashiach to come to this world the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the world and in the fullness of the time God sent forth his son made of a woman namely came. To the woman Miriam made under the law came exactly as the law predicted and lived under the law and fulfill the law to the letter and that's what happened in the fullness of the time God sent forth his son made of a woman made under the law in order to redeem who them which were under the law that he might provide for us righteousness which we all fail when it's come to the holy law of God none none could and none ever could fulfill the righteous requirement of a holy God that's why the sacrificial system was developed and was given to the nation of Israel because when sin came the sacrifice offered on the altar given by God provided temporary atonement covering for the Israeli individuals pointing to the coming of the Messiah and in the fullness of time he came.
Now when he came when the Messiah came notice what we read in verse 4 now beloved brothers and sisters in verse 4 the Messiah came. And he is the telos the end the goal but also the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth and so we read in verse 4 for Christ for the Messiah is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth there are two ways to look at this verse first of all for Christ for the Mashiach the Messiah is the goal of the law in other words the purpose of the law and the goal of the law was to lead us to the Messiah just turn with me for a moment to Galatians chapter three for a moment galatian chapter three Paul wrote to the galatian believers he asked them in verse 19 for what purpose then revealed the law what purpose was for the law what service the law what is the purpose of the law well it says here it was added it was not initially given it was added.
And it was added. Why it was added? Because of transgression. And until when it. Was added, for until the seed should come, this is the Mashiach, until the Messiah will come, to whom the promise was made, that it was, and it was ordained by angels, and in hand of a mediator in other words the Mashiach came exactly in accordance with the plan of God because the law was the goal the telos that which pointed to the coming of the Messiah so why was the law given it was given because of transgression because of sin and transgression is a violation of the law and every time the individual Israeli sought to obey the law which God demanded this from Israel and oftentimes Israel fail just like you and I would fail although God demanded obedience, God demanded to keep certain days for Him, certain feasts for Him, to obey Him, but there's failure.
And because of failure and sins and disobedience, the sacrifice were given. So the sacrifice, the animals that will die, will atone for the sin of the individual Israeli temporarily until the Messiah will come but now he came in the fullness of the time the Mashiach came Yeshua Jesus the Messiah came and therefore Christ is the not only beloved brothers and sisters is the goal but it's also a termination it's an end of the law now again the end meaning that now You know, once the Messiah came and fulfilled the law for us all, who couldn't fulfill the law, now we are to look at him.
He become, we are under the law of Christ, the law of the Messiah. As other places tell us in the book of Galatians, we are to live by the law of Christ, by the law of the Messiah. Now, it doesn't mean that the believer become lawless. Of course not. But the purpose of the law was until the Messiah came. For Christ, notice that, is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth. Another verse in Galatians 3 and verse 24, it says once again, Wherefore, why then the law was, or what for, what was the purpose of the law? It was a schoolmaster. It was our schoolmaster, like an instructor, to bring us unto Christ, to bring Israel unto the Mashiach, that we might be justified by faith.
Not by law, but by faith. And Israel could anyway not be justified on the basis of law keeping because the law was not kept in a full sense of the word no one could keep the law because we have a sin nature there's only one who could keep the law and that is Yeshua the Messiah himself and so Christ is the goal Christ is the end of the law for righteousness once again the word righteousness to everyone not that try to keep the law in order to achieve righteousness, but everyone that believe. Faith. Without faith it is impossible to please God. For he that comes to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
By grace are you saved through faith. Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness. Believe Even the Lord, Yeshua the Messiah, you shall be saved. Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. He that believeth on the Son has everlasting life. Faith, and faith alone. And so now in the first four verses, we have been presented by the Apostle Paul, His burden and Israel's failure to acknowledge the Messiahship of Yeshua and therefore assuming that they will achieve their own righteousness and they were misinformed and did not accept the righteousness of God. They were not submissive to the righteousness of God.
You see, beloved brothers and sisters, faith in the Messiah is submitting to God and to God's Word to accept and to receive the righteousness that comes from the Lord. You see, that is wonderful to realize this, beloved brothers and sisters. This is why the Apostle Shaul Paul was so much, if you turn with me for a moment to the book of Philippians, notice that in Philippians chapter 3 and verse 7, Paul is saying, But what things were gained to me, those I count lost for the Messiah, for Christ, for the Mashiach. Yet doubtless I count all things lost for the excellency of the knowledge of the Messiah Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and to count them but dung that I might know Christ, know the Mashiach.
And notice what he says in verse 9. And to be found in him, not in myself, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the faith of the Messiah, the righteousness which is of God by faith. Paul said, I'm so thankful that I found in the Messiah, in Jesus, in Yeshua, not having my own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is of faith in the Messiah, Jesus. And you know, it will be said, whether it is for a Jewish individual or a non-Jewish individual, that seek to achieve righteousness and to be accepted by God on his own merit.
If one is honest with himself or herself, he or she will say, God, be merciful to me, a sinner. I cannot achieve righteousness on my own. I failed here and I failed there and I came short here and I came short. I have sinned here and I have sinned there. But the reason that the Messiah, Jesus, came to this world is to die for these sins of ours. Who can wash away our sins? Nothing but the blood of Yeshua, the Messiah. And that's applied to all Jews and Gentiles alike. All we likes like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way but the Lord laid upon him the iniquities of us all so now when we finish in the first four verses beloved brothers and sisters Paul continue and in verse five Paul you notice that he began to quote the Hebrew Scriptures again and again and again he's quoting from the book of Leviticus he's quoting from the book of Deuteronomy he's quoting from the book of Isaiah he's quoting the Hebrew Scriptures to base his ministry concerning the righteousness of God on a basis of the written word of God And so in verse 5, Paul says, for Moses, he's taking us all the way back to Moshe, to Moses, for Moses describes the righteousness which is of the law, that the man which doeth them, does those things, shall live by them.
Just turn with me for a moment to Leviticus 18 and verses 4 and 5. In Leviticus 18 and verses 4 and 5, Shaul Paul is quoting what Moses said to Israel when Israel were on the journey from Egypt to Canaan, to the promised land. He's saying to them in verse 4, he says, Ye shall do my judgment, verse 4, and keep mine ordinance, to walk therein. I am the Lord your God. In other words, God demanded from Israel to do his judgment, mishpatim, to keep his ordinances, to walk in them, to live their life in light of his commandments. And they should, and you and I should. But it still does not provide righteousness, divine righteousness, God's righteousness, because although we try to live by the judgment and the ordinances of God and to walk therein, yet we fail.
And we don't achieve righteousness on the basis of our walk and our doing. We achieve it on the basis of believing God's provision. And so in verse 5 he says, Because you ought to do my judgment and to keep my ordinances and to walk therein, verse 5 says, Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgment, which if a man do, he shall live. He shall live in them. I am the Lord. In other words, if someone does it on the basis of him doing it, he shall live, he shall live, he'll receive life, but failure came, sins came, and therefore God in his grace and in his provision, he provided the sacrificial system.
Remember, beloved brothers and sisters, that in the history of Israel, sacrifices were offered every day. Why? Morning sacrifices, evening sacrifices, Shabbat sacrifices, new moon sacrifices, yearly sacrifices, day of atonement sacrifices, Passover sacrifices were offered on a regular basis. Why so much blood to be shed? Why animals had to be killed? God, you think, found pleasure in the killing of an animal? But every animal that was killed that was supposed to have no blemish in it all these animals pointed to the Redeemer that will come in the fullness of the time and when the Redeemer came remember what Yohanan says in John 1.29 behold the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of this world not only aton not only cover for the sin of the world but taketh it away and when Yeshua when Jesus the Messiah came when he died on a shameful Roman cross and there he cried Elohi, Elohi, lama shvaktani my God, my God why hast thou forsaken me?
God laid upon him the iniquities of us all and when he died when he was punished for our sins then he was buried and then he rose again for our justification as we have already read in Roman chapter 4 and verse 25 where we read he was delivered for our offenses and he was raised for our justification or for our righteousness. When God raised the Lord Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah from the grave, from among the dead, he was raised, he was so satisfied with the work of Christ, with the work of the Messiah that he set him in the pinnacle of the universe and whosoever believeth on him receive the righteousness of God, receive forgiveness of sins.
Declare righteous, being justified. And so the problem that the Apostle Paul presents before the Romans that Israel, the nation, has in this present day until today, from the time that the Messiah came at His first coming, and Israel as a nation did not accept Him until today, they are being misinformed of God's righteousness and going about to establish their own righteousness. They have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. And that's applied to both Israel, the Jewish people, and all the nations of the world, to every person. In order for one to receive the righteousness of God, one must believe in the provision of God through the person of our Lord, Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah.
So Paul is quoting the Hebrew Scriptures. Moses saw the importance of sharing with the people of Israel that if you live by it, if you are called to obey the word of God, live by it, and let's see how you're going to live your life, if you're not going to deviate from that, then you will receive life. But all failed. All couldn't. That's why, praise God, there was a provision of the sacrifice which temporarily made atonement, made kapara, covering of sin. And the sins were still piled, the covering was still there available until the Messiah came and took away the sins of the world. And so now let's go back to our chapter and just for one or two more points to mention.
In the next verses, beloved brothers and sisters, from verse 6 onward to verse 11, Paul contrasting between the legal law righteousness, which is found in these earlier verses, verses 3, 4, and 5, and faith righteousness. The righteousness of a legal or law righteousness one could not receive because we all failed the law until the Messiah came who is the only one who fulfilled the law. But from verses 6 to 11, Paul is emphasizing not so much what you need to do for God, but what God has done for you you see in verses 3 4 and 5 do and live in verses 6 to 11 it is done just believe the provision of salvation was done for you by someone else And this is the Messiah, Yeshua, Jesus himself.
And notice that in verses 6 and 7, we have a description of faith, righteousness, of righteousness that is by faith. And again, notice that we read in these verses, verses 6 and 7, once again, the Apostle Paul is taking us back to the Hebrew Scriptures. He's quoting the Word of God. And he says in verse 6, but the righteousness which is of faith, notice that, he speaks on this wise, say not in your heart who shall ascend into heaven that is to bring Christ down from above, or who shall descend into the deep that is to bring up the Messiah, Christ again from the dead, he says, but what says it?
The word is nigh thee even in thy mouth and in thine heart. That is the word of faith which we preach, that if you shall confess with thy mouth the Lord Yeshua, the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God did raise him from the dead you shall be saved for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation for the Scripture saith whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed and so beloved brothers and sisters notice what Paul does in these next verses verses six onward he presented before the Roman believers the contrast between. The law or the or the righteousness that come from the law that one is trying to achieve which one cannot achieve to a not any more legal righteousness but righteousness that one can receive on a basis of believing faith righteousness and so he says in verse six and verse 7 he described the righteousness which is of faith Paul explained the the the nearness that God's righteousness is beside all who will just trust God and so he says in verse 6 but the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise don't say who is going don't say in your heart who shall ascend unto heaven you don't need to go to heaven that is to bring the Messiah down from above in other words the incarnation you don't need to go up to heaven to to bring about the incarnation of the Messiah he have already come the virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Emmanuel he have already come we don't need to go to heaven to.
Bring him down he has come in the fullness of the time he has come we don't need to go to heaven to bring him down to to become a man so he can die on the on a on a tree and provide salvation you have already come you don't need to go to heaven then he continued notice he said he continued he But he says in verse 7, And who shall descend into the deep, that is to bring Christ again from the dead. We don't need to go to the deep, to the grave in order to bring, to raise the Messiah. He was already came and he came from heaven.
He became a man. He died on a shameful cross. He was buried and he rose again. It is nigh to us. We just need to believe it and to accept it. You don't need to go to heaven to bring the Messiah down you don't need to go to the grave to bring the Messiah up in resurrection he says look but what saith it and then he began to now in verses 8 9 and so on to quote what the what Moses said to Israel in the book of Deuteronomy in chapter 30. Notice what it says in verse 8. But what saith it? In other words, what the Scripture says?
The word is nigh unto thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart, the word of faith which we preach. In other words, he's going to Deuteronomy chapter 30 and he's quoting verse 14. And I will just read this to you in Deuteronomy chapter 30. In verse 14 we read the word is very nigh unto thee it is in your mouth and it is in your heart that a that thou mayest do it in other words the word of God is close to us it is nigh to us it is he's speaking to Israel of course before they enter into the promised land but he's saying God's word is nigh to you only believe his word and you will be blessed and you see take the the the the word of God and he applies it to the person of God the son again i'm going back to our chapter in Romans chapter 10 and verse 8 what sayeth it what sayeth the word of God what Moses said in days of all to the people of Israel look the word is nigh in other words Christ is nigh the Messiah is nigh to you even notice that it's in your mouth you can just confess it and in your heart believe on it and that's what we are preaching and then he takes this amazing statement here.
In verses 9, 10 and 11 he said if you shall confess here's the mouth if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus the Lord Yeshua whom God promised to send and he came in the fullness of the time and if you will believe in your heart that God had raised him from the dead you will be saved verse 10 that with the heart the man believe unto righteousness notice here again the word righteousness the righteousness of God come from faith sincere faith from the heart and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation you believe in your heart and you express it from in your mouth you let others know and then what he says in verse 11 and what the Scripture says whosoever believeth on him shall not be a shame and once again he is quoting the book of Isaiah Isaiah 28 notice again and again beloved brothers and sisters the apostle Paul is quoting the Scripture to base his ministry to the Roman believers concerning the fact that Israel as a nation today is.
Sadly not redeemed yet not saved as a nation because Israel failed to receive the righteousness of God going about to establish their own righteousness they have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God for the Messiah is the goal, is the telos, is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believes. Do you believe? Did you come to know the Lord Yeshua as your Messiah, Lord and Savior? Did you come to recognize God be merciful to me? I'm a sinner, I know that your law is holy and righteous, but I have a problem, I have a sin nature. And I cannot attain, although I should seek to live by your guidelines and your word, but I still fail.
So how can I receive forgiveness of sins? Well, the Messiah came. His name is Yeshua, Jesus. And he died in our stead. He paid a price which I cannot, you cannot pay. And whosoever believeth on him shall not perish. If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thy heart that God that raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. For with the heart a man believeth unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation, for the Scripture says whosoever notice the whosoever it's applied not only to the Jewish people it's applied to the Gentiles as well whosoever it's not limited why?
Because all of us need him all of us are sinners all of us need forgiveness of sin whosoever believe whosoever believe on him shall not be confounded or shall not be ashamed notice the word ashamed here Romans 1 verse 16 Paul said for I am not ashamed of the gospel of the Messiah for it is the power of God unto salvation for everyone that believes to everyone that believeth. We pray, beloved friend, that you are a believer. Just believe. Accept what the Lord provided for us through the person of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah. All our righteousnesses, Isaiah 64, are filthy rags. But the righteousness of God is rich because the Messiah, Jesus, paid for our sins.
How wonderful to be, belong to him, and to have our sins forgiven. Well, may God bless his word for you, beloved friend. And we will close the meeting in prayer until the next time. We'll continue from the next verses as we are in Romans chapter 10. Abba, our Father, thank you for your word. Bless your word to our hearts. Thank you for the righteousness of God. The righteousness of God, which is in Christ Jesus, in the Mashiach Yeshua. Father, we thank you. We commit ourselves to you. Bless your word, we pray, for we ask it in Yeshua's name. Amen. Amen. My dear friend, until the next time, we say to you, Shalom, Shalom.
Bye-bye.
