Jesus the Messiah, Born of the Seed of David
Jesus the Messiah, Born of the Seed of David
From Chapter 1:2-4 of the study of the Book of Romans, Gideon Levytam continues with the introduction of one of the most crucial texts in God’s Word, which highlights the declaration of God’s righteousness. In his letter to the believers in Rome, the Apostle Shaul - Paul, declares the good news, that God has provided a way, through the Lord Jesus, for sinners to be declared righteous. Paul describes himself as a servant of Jesus the Messiah, who was chosen by the Lord to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God. In days of old, God had, through the Hebrew prophets, promised to bring into this world His Son, the Messiah, to be born, a descendent of king David. Paul emphasizes the truth, that God, by raising the Man Yeshua-Jesus from the dead, after He died as a sacrifice for the sins of the world, showed that Jesus was truly the promised Messiah.

And we are going to read in Romans chapter 1. This is our second meeting, second session on the book of Romans. We had an introduction in our previous meeting together. So we want to read once again from Romans chapter 1, from verse 1. Again for verse 1 and today I will only read into the seventh verse so Roman chapter 1 verses 1 to verse 7 and so I'm reading Paul a servant of Jesus Christ in Hebrew Yeshua HaMashiach called to be an apostle separated unto the gospel of God which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy Scriptures concerning his son, Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus Christ, our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh, and declared to be the Son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection from the dead.
We have received grace and apostleship for obedience to the faith among all nations for his name among whom are ye also the called of Yeshua HaMashiach Jesus Christ to all that be in Rome beloved of God called to be saints grace be to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. And I'm going to stop here with verse 7 of Romans chapter 1. You remember, beloved brothers and sisters, when we began with the introduction to the book of Romans in our previous meeting, which was the first meeting, we began by asking the question that Job asked, 4, how can a man be justified with God?
Or how can he be clean that is born of a woman? You see, Job asked this question long, long time ago. The question is, how can a sinner, how can a man or a woman, how can a person that is born of a woman be justified with God? Why did he ask this question? Because all of us have sinned and come short of the glory of God. We were all born in sin and that's why the book of Romans is so important because the book of Romans presents before us the grace of God which is extended to all mankind, to all humanity, presenting before us the grace of God that there is a way whereby a man can be justified with God.
When he asks this question, really the answer to this question is given to us throughout the whole Word of God, but the book of Romans specifically presents before us the answer to this question. How can a sinner be justified with a holy and a righteous God? You remember what we said in our previous meeting together, And if you remember, beloved brothers and sisters, the Apostle Paul, Shaul Paul said in Romans 1 verse 16 and 17, revealed from faith unto faith, as it is written, the just shall live by faith. And so when we are going to study together, beloved brothers and sisters, the book of Romans, what we're really going to learn is the extent of God's grace towards all humanity.
If you and I will learn from the book of. Of God that is extended even today towards all mankind who had fallen under sin. In our previous meeting together we have made really five points by way of introduction. We have learned that the theme of the book of Roman is the righteousness of God and if you remember I emphasized the fact that Paul does not here in Romans 1 17 the righteousness of Christ or the righteousness of the Mashiach why because the Mashiach live holy and a righteous life and he needed not to die if he would go to heaven he would go back to heaven and it will not avail anything for us unless he also died as a substitute and by dying as a substitute for mankind for the human he now made it possible for a holy God to provide righteousness for a sinner who believe in Yeshua in Jesus the Messiah that's why it is the righteousness of God God is now just and he can justify a sinner who believe in the person and the work of our Lord Yeshua.
Jesus the Messiah who died, who was buried, and he rose again. Secondly, we mentioned in our previous meeting together that the book of Romans can be divided in various ways. And specifically, I have pointed to the five S's. And if you remember, beloved brothers and sisters, the five S's are these. 20 is sin. All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Chapter 3 verse 21 to chapter 5 verse 21 the theme there is salvation. God provided a Savior. He provided salvation. The third S is in chapter 6 verse 1 to chapter 8 verse 39 and the third S is sanctification. The believers are called to live a sanctified life. Fourthly, the four S is the sovereignty of God in relationship to Israel.
Chapter 9 verse 1 to chapter 11 and verse 36. And fifthly, the fifth S is service. And this is chapter 12 verse 1 to chapter 16 and verse 27. Itself into these five sections: sin, salvation, sanctification, sovereignty, and service. Very easy to break down and to help us to understand the theme and the breakdown, the divisions of the book of Romans. We also mentioned that it can be also divided into two sections: to chapter 16 duty doctrine and duty doctrina is very important because Shaul Paul always taught doctrine first and then he made an application to the life of the believer first we lay we need to learn the doctrine then it helps us to be to live responsibly and live in the light of the duty that the Lord had given the in Yeshua the Messiah.
Thirdly, the third way in which we are dividing the book of Roman is in three ways. First, the theology of righteousness, chapter 1 to the end of chapter 8. Secondly, chapter 9 to chapter 11, righteousness in relation to the people of Israel, God's chosen people. And thirdly, in chapter 12. 1 to the end of chapter 16 the practice of righteousness in the life of the believer so you notice how beautiful the book of Roman can be divided into various ways but the most easy way to take and understand the book of Romans is simply with the five s's sin salvation sanctification sovereignty and service sin in the Hebrew is chet salvation in Hebrew is Yeshua sanctification in Hebrew is kdusha and sovereignty is ribonut and the service is sherut we are called to realize that we are sinners and that God provided for our salvation and therefore as believers we need to live a sanctified life we are to understand that God is sovereign in relationship to his people Israel and he is going to restore the nation in a future day and finally service, every true believer is called to serve our Lord Yeshua the Messiah here in this world.
Then, beloved brothers and sisters, we also mentioned in our previous meeting together that the letter to the Romans is the only letter that Paul wrote. To a local assembly that he did not found he didn't establish in fact he never even visited the local assembly at Rome until he finally at the end of chapter 28 of the book of Acts he arrived to the city of Rome so the assembly at Rome was founded through the preaching of the gospel whether it is in apostles or whether it is by the apostle Shaul Paul when he did it preach the message of the gospel in Asia Minor people became believers traveled to Rome they shared with others the message of the gospels others have come to know the Messiah Yeshua Jesus establish a local assembly and that's how the assembly at the city of Rome was established and so here Shaul Paul is writing to a That's why a little bit later in chapter 1, he says in verse 15.
That are at Rome also. You see, he didn't get to Rome as yet when he was writing the letter to the Romans, but he was eager to go to visit the local assembly in the city of Rome. Then another point that we have mentioned in our previous meeting together, that the letter to the book of Romans was written from the city of Corinth 56 AD by the apostle Shaul Paul. He went to Jerusalem to minister to the saints later on, and before he went to the city of Jerusalem to minister to his Jewish brethren and to bring some gifts from the believers of the Gentiles, for the Jewish believers in the city of Jerusalem, Shaul Paul wrote this letter from the city of Corinth at about 56 AD, and he was.
Presenting this letter before the believers at Rome, and for you and I, how important is the study of the book of Romans. And then of course, finally, we have mentioned that the church, the assembly, the Kehillah, the congregation at the city of Rome, was founded through the ministry of Shimon Petos and Ja'ul Paul, I just re-mention this again because this is very important for us in our study of the book of Romans. Now this session, with the help of the Lord, I would like to emphasize the first seven verses of this passage. First chapter hopefully you have your Bibles with you and we will turn to the first seven verses of Romans chapter 1 and in these first seven verses Shaul Paul is really introducing himself remember he was never at Rome in fact he doesn't know the believers in person and therefore he is introducing himself now to the believers in Rome by telling them to believers there who he is you know it is important when you write a letter to someone to introduce yourself and to let everyone know who you are and again beloved brothers and sisters to remember that the church by the time that the apostle Shaul Paul is writing this letter the church was about 25 years old the assembly the ecclesia and so he's writing and introducing himself to believers.
In a city that he was never there. So who he is, he must present before them who is that one that is writing to them such an important letter. And as I mentioned before, beloved brothers and sisters, one of the most important letters in the Brit HaChadasha, in the New Covenant, the New Testament, is the letter that was written by Shaul Paul to the Roman believers. All the Scripture is divinely inspired. All the Scripture was given to us by holy men of God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. They have given us the word of God. But the book of Romans has a special presentation of the extension of the grace of God that the holy God can provide for a sinner righteous standing before him on the basis of the finished work of the Messiah, of his beloved, son the Mashiach Yeshua and so you notice first of all as we have already pointed out that in verse 1a he began by naming himself Paul again I mentioned before that many mistakenly think that when Shaul became a believer in Jesus the Messiah his name was changed from Shaul to Paul and again to remind you that it is not so.
Was always Shaul and his name was always Paul he has a Hebrew name and he has a a Gentile or diaspora name and that's why when he began his ministry among the Gentiles he prominently took the name Paul because he's working among the Gentile believers to whom he was called and if you remember beloved brothers and sisters we have mentioned that he was also called Paul and Shaul. You remember what we read in Acts chapter 13, then Shaul, who also is called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit and he set his eyes on him. This is Acts chapter 13 and verse 9. He also is called Paul. And you notice that in Acts chapter 13.
He had already become a believer in the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, and yet he is called Shaul, Saul, in Acts chapter 13. In fact, the Holy Spirit of God himself said in verse 2, as they ministered to the Lord, they were already believers, they have accepted the Messiah, Yeshua, they became born again, they were part of the local assembly at Rome, at Antioch, as they ministered unto the Lord, the Holy Spirit of God said, separate unto me, Barnabas and Saul and Shaul for the work whereof I have called them so he's writing to the Gentile believers using his a non-Hebrew name because he's ministering to the Gentile believers and ministering to them calling himself living among the nation Paul he was an apostle to the uncircumcision to Galatians chapter 2.
So the first thing we learn that his name is Paul he's presenting himself before them in Roman chapter 1 in verse 1a and then notice what he does in verse 1b in verse 1b Paul is presenting the fact that he's an apostle. Believer, not that he was more important than someone else, but he was specifically an apostle, an apostolos in the Greek, a shalich in the Hebrew. He was called by the glorified Messiah when he was on the way to Damascus to bring back these Jewish believers from Damascus and elsewhere, and he was persecuting the early church saints, the Jewish saints of the church, he was bringing them to Jerusalem and he is that then there the Lord Jesus the Messiah called him and he says Shaul Shaul why are you persecuting me and from that time on beloved brothers and sisters the Lord Jesus the Messiah called him for the ministry and again we did emphasize in act chapter for that special ministry among the nations of the world.
And you remember when Hananiah initially did not want to even bring him in. You remember what the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, said to Hananiah concerning the apostle, the Shaul Paul. He said, I will show him he's a chosen vessel. Acts chapter 9 and verse 15. For he's a chosen vessel unto me. To bear my name before the Gentiles and Kings and the children of Israel, for I will show him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake. And so, beloved brothers and sisters, here is that Paul, and notice I'm reading once again Romans 1.1, Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separate unto the gospel of God.
Notice these things here that are very important. First of all, we read Paul as servant. The word here for servant is the Greek word that is a very important word, doulos. In Hebrew, it is called heved. It is a voluntary service for God. He was not only that he was a servant, but he became a slave, a doulos. In the Hebrew is avid and he became a slave for the Lord Yeshua the Messiah secondly in verse 1b he's called to be an apostle those of you that use the king James you will notice that the word to be is in italic here and really the word italic should not be there or the word to be should not be there it is simply mean called an apostle called an apostolos called a shaliach a messenger he is the one that was called an apostle in other words he was called by the Lord it was a special calling that God had given Shaul Paul and he made him an apostle a shaliach now to remind you And in order to be qualified to be an apostle, according to the book of Acts, one must see the resurrected Mashiach.
And that's why the early 12 apostles have seen the resurrected Mashiach. You remember, it was Judas who betrayed the Lord and sold the Lord and ultimately he killed himself. Was replaced according to Acts chapter 1 and everyone anyone in order to be qualified to be a shaliach an apostolos a special messenger called by the Lord Jesus the Messiah one must be the one that have seen the resurrected Messiah and that's why Shaul Paul have seen the resurrected Messiah on the way to Damascus the 11 plus matathias matityahu have seen the glorified Messiah according to act chapter 1 and verses 21 and 22 so we learn the importance so he was a slave of Yeshua ha-Mashiach he was called for the ministry of apostolos apostleship and he's telling this to the Roman believers Thirdly, you notice what he says, separated, notice, unto the gospel of God.
This is also, beloved brothers and sisters, very, very important to realize that Paul was separated uniquely. He was separated by the Lord himself. Listen, turn with me for a moment to Galatians chapter 1, just for a moment. And you notice what it says in Galatians chapter 1, that it tells us concerning the Lord a call for the apostle Shaul, Paul. You notice what we read in verse 15 of Galatians chapter 1. It says, Please God, who separated me, listen, from my mother's womb. God separated me from my mother's womb and called me by His grace to reveal His Son in me that I might preach Him among the heathen.
Immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood, went I up to Jerusalem, to them which were the apostles before me. You see, Shaul Paul, beloved brothers and sisters, was already separated by God from his mother's womb, and we learn here from Romans 1.1 that he is a servant, he is an apostle, and that he was separated unto the gospel of God. In other words, what he did not know when he was persecuting his Jewish brethren in first century, in actuality, God already knew that long time from his mother's womb, Shaul was already called by God, separated by God to become a servant of our Lord, Yeshua the Messiah.
You and I who are believers today you and I have been chosen in the Mashiach in Christ before the foundation of the world we did not know that some years before we became believers we thought we actually rejected the gospel we didn't want to hear about the Messiah about the Lord Jesus the Messiah but in actuality as we read a word tells us that we were chosen in Christ, in Mashiach, before the foundation of the world, Ephesians chapter 1 and verses 3 and 4. So God knows his own already in eternity past, but in time he makes all the arrangement to bring it about that you and I and every believer come to know in time.
Who the Lord Jesus the Messiah is that's why you and I when we preach the gospel you notice at the end of verse 1 he said that he was separated unto the gospel of God someone tell us or someone told him and told you and I about the gospel what is the gospel the gospel of God is the God is extending his grace towards a sinner by providing for us the Redeemer when our Lord Yeshua the Messiah came down to this world when he died on a Roman cross and was buried and rose again for our justification that's the gospel and it was according to the Hebrew Scripture it was in the plan of God and so here Shaul Paul is presenting himself before the Roman believers in the city of Rome number one he's a servant number two he is an.
Apostle. Number three, he was already separated unto the gospel of God. Now he continued. And you notice now in the next verses, verses two all the way to verse four, we learn how Paul is the one that is a promise. Notice that the gospel that he's preaching, that he's ministering, it was something that was already spoken of in the You know that the various Scriptures that are found in the book of Romans, Paul quoting so many times the Hebrew Scriptures. In fact, just to let you get an idea, there's over 60 times or so that the Hebrew Scripture, the Tanakh, is quoted by Shaul Paul in the book of Romans.
In Romans 1:22 he is quoting Jeremiah 10:14. In Romans 2:6 he is quoting Proverbs 24:12. In Romans 2:6 he is also quoting Psalm 62:12. In Romans 2:24 he is quoting Isaiah 52:5. 36 and verse 20 there is some form of quotation in Romans 3 and verse 4 he's quoting Psalm 116 and verse 11 and we can go on and go on and go on in fact the first time he's quoting the Hebrew Scriptures is Roman chapter 1 and verse 17 he's quoting Habakkuk 2 and verse 4 and the last time he's quoting in the book of Romans the Hebrew Scripture is in Romans 15 and verse 21 where Shaul Paul quotes Isaiah 52 and verse 15 again and again and again he's quoting the Hebrew Scriptures and therefore notice what we read here beloved brothers and sisters as we mentioned here notice that I mentioned in verse 1 the third portion at the end the gospel of God the gospel.
Is the glad tidings. The gospel is the gospel of his son. The gospel is also called the gospel of Christ, the gospel of Messiah. And the gospel in the book of Romans is called also my gospel. Here it is called the gospel of God in Romans 1 and verse 1 at the end. In verse 9, notice that jump little bit further it's called there the gospel of his son a little bit further down in verse 16 it is called the gospel of Christ or the gospel of the Messiah and then at the end of the book of Romans in Romans 16 and verse 25 Paul called it my gospel so you notice beloved brothers and sisters presenting the word gospel good news in Hebrew Besorah he's presenting it in four ways in the book of Roman it is called the gospel of God it is called the gospel of his son it is called the gospel of Mashiach Christus Christ Messiah and it is called my gospel the gospel of God.
The gospel of his son, Romans 1 and verse 9. The gospel of Christ, of Messiah, is Romans 1 and verse 16. And my gospel in Romans chapter 16 and verse 25. What is the gospel once again? The gospel is that the Messiah died for our sins according to the Scriptures. And he rose again according to the Scriptures. He died and he was buried, and he rose again according to the Scriptures. That is the good news. That's the gospel. And that's the message that Shaul Paul proclaimed to all the world. That's why he would say later on, we will read that in verse 16, that he is not ashamed of the gospel of the Messiah.
Why? The power of God unto salvation to everyone that will believe that's the question that we all have to ask ourselves do you believe in this grace of God that he has extended towards us in allowing his son the Messiah to be punished for your sins and for mine that's good news in Hebrew this is with God here's the answer the Mashiach came Yeshua Jesus and he died he was buried and rose again for the justification of everyone that will only believe and trust him sincerely and so back to our chapter and so you notice now in verse 2 he continued and the gospel was promised by God's prophets that's why he's mentioned, notice that in verse 2, which he, this is God, this is the gospel of God, which he, God, had promised a fall by his prophets in the holy Scriptures.
You know, this is very, very important, beloved brothers and sisters and dear friends. You see, God has already planned it. The Hebrew prophets. Received this Revelation from the Lord already long before the Messiah has come. God's plan, God's program was given in relationship to the coming of the Messiah was already given in the day of all. Although the church age was a mystery that was hid in God and was just revealed to the New Testament, to the apostles of the New Covenant and the prophets of the New Covenant, the truth of the fact that God's way of salvation is through the death burial and resurrection of the Mashiach was already given to us in the Hebrew Scriptures let me give you some verses that you can look into and see that it was already promised a long time ago by the by his prophets in the holy Scriptures in Genesis chapter 3 in verse 15 we learn.
Of the seed of the woman that was promised to Adam and Eve. In Micah chapter 5 and verse 2, it was promised that he will come, that the Messiah will come, that he will be a Moshe, he will rule over Israel. And his going forth is from everlasting. He is the eternal one that came down to this world already planned by God in eternity past, beloved. Brothers and sisters and Micah in chapter 5 and verse 2 mentioned this already to the people of Israel that who is going forth the one that will be born in the city of Bethlehem his going forth is from everlasting and he will be the ruler over the nation of Israel and over the nations of the world in Isaiah chapter 7 and verse 14 the prophet Isaiah was speaking concerning the the virgin that shall conceive and bear and bear a son and shall call his name Immanuel.
You remember that verse? I'm just turning to Isaiah 7 and verse 14. Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign. Behold, a virgin shall conceive and bear a son and shall call his name Immanuel, God with us. Already Isaiah, Micah, and Moshe wrote about this in the Hebrew Scriptures. In Isaiah chapter 53 and verse 6 we read concerning the Messiah that the prophet of Israel, Isaiah said that all we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned everyone to his own way, but the Lord laid upon him the iniquities of us all. Isaiah prophesied that he will die and that he will be punished because of our own iniquities.
And we can go on in Jeremiah chapter 23. Is called the one that is righteousness Jehovah our righteousness let me read you Jeremiah chapter 25 in verse notice there Jeremiah chapter 23 in verses 5 and 6 behold the day the days come says the Lord that I will raise unto David a righteous branch and a king shall reign and prosper and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In his day Judah shall be saved and Israel shall dwell safely. And this is the name whereby he shall be called Jehovah our righteousness. Jehovah Tzidkeinu. Adonai Tzidkeinu. Jeremiah already wrote concerning the coming of the Messiah that he will be our righteousness.
Jehovah our righteousness he will be born into this world and so the prophets wrote just like Shaul Paul is saying in Romans 1 and verse 2 which he had promised a fall by his prophets in the holy Scriptures we just need to open the Tanakh the Hebrew Scriptures and from Genesis to the book of Malachi being given one after another. And I just mentioned earlier some of these promises, the quotations that are mentioned in the whole book of Romans, including Habakkuk chapter 2 and verse 4. Later on we read in Ezekiel chapter 36 and then there in verses 25 to 27 concerning the coming one, the one that will come to restore the nation.
Of Israel. In fact, beloved brothers and sisters, again and again we read concerning the coming of the Messiah in the Hebrew Scripture that was spoken already by the Hebrew prophets. That's why the apostle Paul said it was promised that Jesus Christ, Yeshua HaMashiach will come. It was given to the prophets and it was written, it is still written in the Holy Scriptures. In fact, turn with me please to 1 Peter chapter 1 and verse 10, 11 and 12. In verse 10 we read, listen to these beautiful verses. Searching what or what manner of time the Spirit of Mashiach the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify when it testified beforehand the sufferings of the Mashiach Christus, Christ, Messiah and the glory that should follow unto whom it was revealed that not unto themselves but unto us they did ministered the things which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Spirit sent down from heaven with things the angels desire to look into.
All beloved brothers and sisters, it is amazing what Peter was writing to the early believers. About that salvation that would come, the grace that will come for this world. They were searching what manner, the time that Mashiach will come. And they were also reporting of the sufferings of the Messiah and the glory that should follow. He suffered at his first coming and he died for the sin of this world. But he's coming again to take his rightful place here and to receive the glory that he deserved to receive from mankind. God will give him that glory that he deserved to receive. One day, every knee shall bow and every tongue will confess that Yeshua the Messiah is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
Open to receive him today hopefully you who listen to my voice have come to know him as your Lord and Savior today but one day as Peter wrote concerning the prophets of Israel that they were searching about the coming of the Messiah and the sufferings of the Messiah and the glory that will come later on and will surely come in a future day so we read in Romans 1 and verse 2 that the gospel of God was promised a full time by the prophets in the Hebrew, in the holy Scriptures. And so Moses wrote of him, Isaiah wrote of him, Jeremiah wrote of him, Ezekiel wrote about the Messiah, Micah wrote about the Messiah, Zechariah wrote about the Messiah, Daniel wrote about the Messiah, And therefore, that good news, the gospel of God, that is exactly what the prophets of Israel spoke about.
And you and I, today, who are believers, who are part of the assembly, the ecclesia, we have received that gospel, received forgiveness, and became part of the redeemed today. Now notice that. Move along with me back in Romans chapter 1. Now notice in verse 3 and 4, the gospel is concerning, Shaul is telling to the Roman believer, it is concerning God's Son. The gospel can only be concerning God's beloved Son. Notice that. I'm reading verses 3 and 4. Concerning his son you remember the end of verse 1 the gospel of God verse 3 concerning his son Jesus Christ in Hebrew Yeshua HaMashiach the word for Christ come from the Hebrew word Mashiach Messiah the anointed one so it is the gospel it is concerning the gospel of God concerning his son Yeshua the Messiah our Lord Now, verses 3 and 4 of Romans chapter 1, very important verses, beloved friends and dear brothers and sisters.
Why? Because the whole gospel of God, given to us already by the prophets in the Holy Scriptures is concerning God's Son. Now, you know, when we read about the word God's Son, many have a problem. Does God have a Son? Well, this is important to understand. You remember what we read in the Scripture, son lest he be angry and you remember what we read in Psalm 2 concerning God's son that he God has set him as a ruler to rule over this world you remember what we read in Psalm 2 concerning God's son we read that the Lord said in i read verse. Them the Lord shall have them in derision then shall he speak unto them in his wrath and vax them in his soul's displeasure he says yet I have set my king upon my holy hill of Zion in verse 7 we read I will declare a decree the Lord said unto me thou art my son Yeshua the Messiah is God's son we have to understand the triunity of the Godhead there is only one God Shema Yisrael Adonai Eloheinu Adonai Echad He or Israel the Lord our God the Lord is one but that one God is consisting and existing in three persons within the Godhead Ha'Abba the Father Haben the Son Haruach the Spirit three persons one God the son that came down to this world that's why Isaiah said unto us a child is born and to us a son is given the father sent the son to be the Savior of this world so the gospel of God is concerning his son you remember in our study of the gospel of John we did read in the beginning was the word.
And the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. Then we read in verse 14, and the Word, this is God the Son, became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glories of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. It is fastening truth to understand. And again, the Hebrew Scripture spoke, about God's son that he will send to this world in fact I would like you to turn with me to the book of Proverbs Proverbs chapter 30 listen to this interesting verse that we read in Proverbs chapter 30 the book of Mishle Shlomo gave us the whole book of Mishle but here we read of a man by the name of Agur.
Who asked the question in Proverbs 30 in verse 4, who has ascended up into heaven or descended? Of course, it is God. Who has gathered the wind in his feasts? The answer is God. Who has bound the waters in his garment? Well, the answer is God. Who has established all the ends of the earth? But then he asked another question. And he says, what is his name? And what is his son's name? If you can tell. You see, beloved brothers and sisters, even Agur asked the question, what is his name? And what is his son's name? And he asked, can you tell? And you know, we can tell today by knowing the complete canon of Scripture.
You shall call his name Yeshua, for he shall save his people from their sins. Yeshua in Hebrew, Jesus in the Greek, you shall call his name Yeshua. Why? Because he will save his people from their sins. And that gospel of God is concerning God's Son that would come down to this world, pay for the sin of this world when he died on the tree, was buried after he died, he was buried and he rose again for our justification. And that's why we have that gospel, the good news, the glad tidings. For you and for me and for all humanity that whoever will believe on him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3.16 says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever will believe on Him shall never perish but have everlasting life. In 1 John we read, The Father sent the Son to be the Savior of this world. Beloved brothers and sisters, the gospel is concerning His Son. And so back to Romans chapter 1 and verse 3. It is the gospel that is the gospel of God, which had been promised by God a full time through the prophets, that it is written in the Hebrew, in the Holy Scriptures, it is concerning His Son. Son. You see, all of us have gone astray. We have all sinned.
The best of mankind is a sinner. That's why the Son of God had to come down to this world to take union humanity with His divine nature. And because He lived a perfect life, He could become the Mashiach, to become a substitute when he died on a shameful cross for all those that will believe on him. He died, he was buried, and he rose again for our justification. And his name is Yeshua Jesus. And so we read in verse 3 and verse 4, it is concerning God's Son, but notice that it says here, notice Jesus the Messiah, our Lord, notice that which was made or which was born in verse 3, of the seed of David, according to the flesh.
You see, when the Messiah entered, when God the Son entered into this world, he exactly came in his flesh, in his humanity, according to the seed of David. That's why, beloved brothers and sisters, Isaiah said that out of the stamp of Jesse. Messiah will come as a descendant of David. This is so important, beloved brothers and sisters, to realize that Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah, is the Son of God and the Son of Man. He is a man of the seed of David, but he is a divine person, God the Son. Please turn with me and I will close with that as we end with our Bible class for today.
In Matthew chapter 1, notice that we do read in verses 18 to 25 in the genealogy of the birth of the Messiah when he came to this world. Notice what we read in Matthew chapter 1 and verse 18. Of Yeshua HaMashiach was on these wives when his mother Miriam was espoused to Yosef before they came together. She was found with a child of the Holy Spirit. Then Yosef, her husband, being a just man, not willing to make her a public example, he was minded to put her away privately. On these things behold the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream saying Yosef thou son of David Ben David fear not to take unto thee Miriam thy wife for that which conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit and she shall bring forth a son and thou shall call his name Jesus in Hebrew Yeshua, Jehovah the Savior.
For he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled, which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel, which being interpreted is God with us, Immanuel. Then Yosef, being raised from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and he took unto him his wife, and knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn, and he called his name Yeshua. You see, in the genealogy, beloved brothers and sisters, of the birth of the Messiah, he came of the seed of David.
He is the son of God, but he is the son of man, the son of David. No wonder in the gospel oftentimes they call him son of David, son of David, Ben David, Ben David. The blind men call him Ben David, Ben David, son of David. And so I'm reading one more time, Romans 1 and verse 3 and 4. Our Lord which was made or which was born of the seed of David according to the flesh he took a human nature the seed of the woman the seed of Abraham the seed of David Zerah David but he declared to be the son of God with power according to the Spirit of holiness by the resurrection from God declared that this was his beloved son by raising him from among the dead after he died, he was buried.
Then God raised him from among the dead, declaring, notice, declaring, this is my beloved son. He declared the son of God with power, according, notice that, to the Spirit of holiness. By the resurrection from the dead. When God had raised his beloved son Yeshua Hamashiach from among the dead, he declared him to be his son publicly. And therefore, beloved brothers and sisters and dear friends, how wonderful to know is the Apostle Shaul Paul introducing himself in these first few verses. We have covered the first four verses Paul is telling the believers at Rome that he is a servant. He is an apostle. He is separated unto the gospel of God.
And that this gospel was already promised in the Hebrew Scriptures, in the Holy Scriptures. And that the Messiah will come of the seed of David, who is the Son of God, for the sin of this world well I hope beloved brothers and sisters and dear friends I trust that you will be encouraged as believers we are to be encouraged because praise God we have a Redeemer who came from heaven who is qualified to be the Mashiach to save us to forgive our sins because he became the supreme sacrifice the gospel had been provided for us. And even today, as we share this message, we trust that many will come to trust in our Lord, Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus the Messiah.
So may the Lord bless you and bless his word to your heart, beloved friend. So our God and our Father, we ask your blessing upon your word, for we ask it in Yeshua, in Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. God bless you, my friend. We say, Shalom, Shalom. Bye-bye.
