Shabbat Shalom! Open your Bibles to the Gospel of Mark is where we are studying. I would like today to finish the 14th chapter of the Gospel of Mark. And I'd like to read the last verses, beginning from verse 53 to verse 72. Mark 14, verse 53 to verse 72. And so we read: And they led Yeshua away to the high priest. And with him were assembled all the chief priests and the elders and the scribes. And Peter followed afar off, even unto the palace of the high priest. He sat with the servants and warmed himself at the fire. And the chief priests and all the council sought for a witness against Yeshua to put him to death and found none.

For many bear false witness against him, but their witness agreed not together. And they arose a certain and bear false witness against him, saying: We heard him say: I will destroy this temple that is made with hands. And within three days I will build another made without hands. But neither so did their witness agreed together. And the high priest stood up in the midst and asked Jesus, saying: Answered thou nothing? What is it which did witness against thee? But he held his peace and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him and said unto him: Are thou the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed? And Yeshua said: I am.

And ye shall see the Son of Man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes and says: What need we any further witness? Ye have heard their blasphemy. What think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death. And some began to spit on him. And to cover his face. And to buffet him. And to say unto him: Prophesy! And the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands. And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there cometh one of the maids of the high priest. When she saw Peter warming himself, she looked upon him and said: And thou also wast with Yeshua of Nazareth.

But he denied. Saying: I know not, neither understand I, what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch, and the cock crew. And a maid saw him again. And began to say to them that stood by: This is one of them. And he denied again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter: "Thou art one of them: For thou art a Galilean, and thy speech agreeeth thereto." But he began to curse, and to swear, saying: "I know not this man, of whom ye speak." And a second time the cock crew. Peter called to mind the word that Yeshua said unto him before the cock crow twice: "Thou shalt deny me thrice." And when he thought the wrong, he wept." And chapter 14 ends with these two words: "He," this is Peter, "wept." Now, again, we are studying, of course, in the Gospel of Mark.

And Mark presents Yeshua, the Messiah, as the servant of the Lord. In the Bible, we call it Eved Adonai. The Messiah was the servant who came from heaven according to Isaiah 42, Isaiah 49, Isaiah 50, Isaiah 53, and Isaiah 61. Yeshua the Messiah is the servant of Jehovah, the servant of the Lord. And thank God he came from heaven because you and I would have no hope unless we had him as our Messiah and Lord and Savior. And how sadly, beloved brothers and sisters, we see here in the "Brit HaChadashai" in the New Testament, where we find ourselves here in the 14th chapter, how Yeshua took the disciples to the Garden of Gatshmanim.

There he prayed. He asked the disciples to watch with him for a little while. And lo and behold, they couldn't because they were so weak and tired. Then came Yehuda Ishkariot, Judas Iskariot, and he betrayed the Messiah, Yeshua, for 30 pieces of silver. As, of course, we know what we read in the Psalm 41, and said, "My own familiar friend. He turned against me." And he sold the Messiah for 30 pieces of silver. And by the time we arrive to this 53rd verse of Mark chapter 14, Yehuda, that is Judas, kissed the Messiah, identified him for the Jewish leaders who came, and they took him, and now we see the beginning of the trial of the Lord Yeshua the Messiah before the leaders of Israel.

Later on in chapter 15, we are going to see him before Pilate, the Roman leaders. But in these last verses of Mark chapter 14, Yeshua is standing before the high priest, and the Sanhedrin, this is the 71 elders of Israel. And there we can see the court session that is going on, which eventually they condemned Yeshua to death. But notice how we began here, in these verses. Verses 53 here, of Mark chapter 14, all the way to verse 65, we see our Lord Jesus, our Lord Yeshua the Messiah, there standing before the high priest, in Hebrew we call him, Hakohen HaGadol. You know, when you think about the high priest of Israel, it reminds us, of course, immediately of Aaron, the first high priest of our people Israel.

The responsibility of the high priest was to represent Israel, our own nation, before God. And then to come out from the presence of God, and to present God before the nation of Israel, and to lead Israel, to lead our people of old, in a way that is pleasing God. But here we find this high priest. We know that his name is Kayaphaz, from Matthew chapter 26 and verse 57. He was a high priest that was installed by the Romans. He was a son-in-law of Hanan, Anas, who was the true high priest of Israel, you know, Anas, Hanan, was set aside, and his son-in-law was installed by the Romans to be the high priest of our Jewish people in the land of Israel in those days, about 30 AD.

And so we find out, notice that in verse 53, how the Lord Yeshua was led from the Garden of Gethsemane, the Garden of Gatshmanim, into the palace where Kayaphaz the high priest was. And so we read, notice, and they led Jesus away to the high priest. First, think about how sad is to lead Yeshua to the high priest. In other words, they captured him, they bound him, and they took him as if he would harm them into the high priest. It reminds me of the verse that we have in the prophet Isaiah, "He was led as a sheep to the slaughter." The very same one, the Messiah, Yeshua, who is God, the son who became a man who could speak a word and destroy all his enemies, whether it is those who oppose him from among our people Israel, or those who oppose him from among the Gentile world, he was led as a lamb, you might say, later on to be taken to the slaughter.

Now let me remind you that he just finished to celebrate Pesach. It was an evening meeting. Then he went to the garden of Gatshmanim a little bit later on in the evening, the same day. And now you might say very late at night they finally captured him in the garden of Gatshmanim. They came with lanterns, they came with lights in order to see. Obviously it was an evening, a night occasion, led him into the home of the high priest, the Kohen Haggadol, who was supposed to be representing Israel before God and behaving in a way that would be pleasing to God. So now they are leading him away into the high priest.

Now we don't read it here, but in the Gospel of John in chapter 18, you find out that before he was led to Kayapha, he was led first of all to Hanan, to Anas. Even though Anas, the father-in-law, was the true high priest of those days, but he was removed, and Kayapha, his son-in-law, was placed as the high priest, but for some reason, he was respected perhaps, and acknowledged still as the high priest, according to John 18:13-24, but yet, first of all, he was sent to Anas, and then he went to Kayapha. Now Mark does not give us this detail, and later on give us this detail, but it is important to take a note of it, that Kayapha was a man that was not spiritual, godly man, he was installed, he was placed there in this position by the Romans.

So notice that, who gathered there together, according to verse 53, with him, this is with the high priest, with Kayapha was the assembly, all the chief priests, and the elders, and the scribes, the Kohanim, the Zkenim, the Sofrim, all of them gathered together, for that unusual meeting, very late at night. Yeshua was led, from the garden of Gatshmanim, to the house of the high priest. and so we read in Mark 14:54, what Peter does, Peter following after him, and Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace, or to the court, of the high priest, and he sat with the servants, and he warmed himself at the fire.

Now I want to pause here for a moment. Earlier, at the very same chapter, Yeshua warned Peter, and he said to Peter, if you remember, he said, Peter, you think that you are going to be able to die for me? And you're not going to be like the others? I'm telling you, Peter, that before the rooster will crow twice, you will deny me three times. And of course, Peter was zealous for the Lord. You remember, he first of all cut the ear of Malchus. We read in chapter 26 of the Gospel of Matthew, and the Lord had to put the ear back to the servant of the high priest.

But Peter was so self-confident, that he said, I'm going to show Yeshua, the Messiah, that I am able to follow, and I will not deny him. I'm going to follow him to wherever they're going to take him, and I'm going to show him wrong, you might say. Remind us of ourselves, when we, at times, so confident that everybody is going to be wrong, and everybody is going to do that, but not I. And the lesson is here to show us that the Lord knows our heart, and he will show us how much we need to depend on him, rather than to depend on ourselves. Yesterday, in our Bible class, we studied Isaiah the prophet, and we have arrived to Isaiah.

At the end of chapter 50, the Lord is warning Israel, and he said to them, Who is among you that fear the Lord, and obey the voice of his servant, that walk in the darkness, and has no light? Let him trust in the name of the Lord, and stay upon his God. In other words, if you live in a world that is filled with darkness, and conflict, you have to stay close to the Lord, and trust in him, because that's the only way whereby you and I, and anyone, can actually live a life for the Lord. Because the next verse, God said to Israel, Behold, all you that kindle a fire that compasses yourselves, about with sparks, walk in the light of your own fire, and in the sparks of your own that you have kindled, this shall ye have of my hand, ye shall lay down in sorrow.

In other words, what God is saying to Israel, many years ago, before the Messiah came, don't trust in yourself, don't try to kindle a fire on your own, but trust in me, and have my fire kindled within you. Because otherwise, if you trust in your own sparks, and in your own light, in your own fire, you will find out that you will eventually, be sorrowful, and you will lay down in judgment. Well, here's some lessons that we can learn. Peter apparently, thought that he will stand for the Lord, and he will trust him. No, though all will deny you, yet not I. So notice in verse 54, of this 14th chapter of Mark, he's following the Lord, but I want you to notice three things, that we find in this verse 54.

The first thing we find him following a far off. The second thing we find, that he's sitting down with the servants, the servants, who just took Yeshua the Messiah from the garden of Gethsemane. And thirdly, you find that he warming himself, while Yeshua was there inside, being accused by the Jewish leaders in those days. Now, what a lesson, just a thought, that you can glean, even from these three statements. Walking and following the Lord afar off. We will never be strong spiritually, when we stay afar off from the Lord. We need to stay close to him. We know a time in our own life, when we stay far away from the Lord.

We keep him a distance close to him. We are not being with him, enjoying him, learning from him. When we stay far off, we find ourselves weak in our spiritual growth. Then also, we find him sitting down with the servants, outside, with the very one, that just took Yeshua the Messiah, and brought him to Caiaphas, that captured him. You remember, what the psalmist of Israel said in Psalm, "One blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, standeth in the way of sinners, nor siteth in the stees of the scornful, but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law does he meditate day and night." Psalm 1:1-2.

So quickly, we, and again, I'm not pointing the finger at Peter, because it's in our own hearts, but I'm just mentioning, bringing it up, you can see why Peter, in a time of testing, could not submit to the Lord, because he trusted in himself, following the Lord afar off, sitting with the servants who oppose the Messiah, and finally warming himself by the fire. In other words, comfortable, everything is fine, not realizing at the same time that Yeshua, the Messiah, who was there inside, being accused, and in a few moments, they will sentence him to go to Pilate, and they will send him to the cross.

Now that lesson, really can be applied to us, when we are having confidence in ourselves. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart, don't lean on your own understanding." Shlomo said to Israel, "In all thy way acknowledge him, and he will eventually direct your path." So we're leaving Peter for a moment, we're going to get to him in a few moments, but while Peter is outside, follow the Lord afar off, sitting with those that oppose the Messiah, and wearing himself, and being, you might say, in a comfortable position, inside, in that palace, the council were gathering against Yeshua, the Messiah. So in verse 55, in verse 56, the whole Sanhedrin, the council of Israel, gathered together, seeking for witnesses, to accuse Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah.

You know, people can find witnesses against you and I, to say something wrong about us, but they couldn't find anything against Yeshua, the Messiah. Whichever way you look at the life of the Lord Yeshua, the Messiah, he was a perfect man. He was a sinless man. He was a holy man. He was a harmless man. He was an undefiled man. He was the man of God. He was the servant of the Lord. You couldn't find any fault in him. They looked to find fault in him in the past. They couldn't. They looked to find fault in him in the present. They can't. Because he was sinless.

He was God and man in one. There was no fault in him. But they were trying to find some fault. And see, you notice that. I'm reading verse 55. All the chief priests and all the council sought for witnesses against Yeshua, to put him to death, and they found none. I believe, and I'm sure, what attracts you to him, what attracts us to him, is his perfection. His willingness to come down to a world of sin and sins for us, the Holy One of God. Harmless. Hebrews says, we have such a high priest, holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners. unanimous. That's Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah. So all the council, they're saying, let's see if we can find someone to say something wrong about him.

And they are seeking to find, and according to verse 55, they found none. No one honestly, faithfully, straightforward, without lying, could say anything wrong against Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah. So according to verse 56, for many bear false witnesses against him, but their witnesses agreed not together. In other words, there are some who came along and said something against Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah, but apparently it didn't match. And you remember what we read in scripture, in the book of Deuteronomy, upon two or three witnesses, everything will be established. And so when one person came and said something about Yeshua, the Messiah, or another person came, they was not matching.

They could not find their testimony, did not agree. There was no agreement with their testimony against Yeshua, the Messiah. the Messiah. Now can you imagine, one of the ten commandments, that we have given to our forefathers, to Israel, when Israel came out of Egypt is, "Thou shall not bear false witness." When one gives a false witness against another, this is a clear violation of God's law. And here, they are seeking to find some. The high priest himself couldn't find any false against Yeshua. The elders could not find anything wrong with Yeshua. The scribes couldn't find anything wrong against Yeshua. But they are looking around to find someone, to say something bad about the lover of their souls, the Messiah himself.

You know, when you open the scripture, and you read from Genesis, Bereshit, to Revelation, Chazon, you can only find the beauty of the person of the Lord. The attractiveness that is found in him. There was no man like him, ever born, and ever will be born. All have fallen short of the glory of God. But there was one man, by the name of Yeshua, who was a perfect, perfect man. That's why he is the only one who is qualified to be our Mashiach, our Messiah, and the Savior of this world. Well, many sought to bear a false witness against him. Their witness agreed not together.

In other words, there are some even dared to say things that were wrong against the Lord, but they didn't match. Can you imagine how it frustrated Kayafa? Can you imagine how it frustrated the elders? Can you imagine how much it frustrated the Sanhedrin? The Sanhedrin is 71 elders, spiritual leaders of Israel, which God actually have requested for Moses, in Numbers chapter 11, to raise 70 men, who are godly men, in whom he can have confidence, plus Moses together, 71 men, where the Spirit of God was leading them to take care of the people of Israel. And you can see here, an opposite condition existing here. They are trying to find fault with Yeshua, the Messiah, but they found none.

And so, after verses 55 and 56 of Mark chapter 14, where they are seeking the Sanhedrin, the assembly, seeking for witness against Yeshua, the Messiah, the Messiah, then we find out, of those, that somehow, managed to find some, some accusation against the Lord, which was actually, wrong accusation. In verses 57, 58, and 59, there was, some who rose, to give a false witness against the Lord. And you notice, when they say what they say, they do not even quote it. They add to it, or subtract from what the Lord have said earlier, in his life. And notice that very interesting statement here, in verse 57. They arose certain, and bear, notice clearly, false witness against him, and they said, look at their false witness against Yeshua, the Messiah, those certain, that rose there, and they said, we heard him say, I will destroy this temple, that is made with hands, and within three days, I will build another made without hands.

And then he said in verse 59, but neither so did their witness agreed together. But notice what they are doing here. They could not find anything wrong with Yeshua, the Messiah. So they tried to find some fault in his saying, that he said some three, three and a half years earlier. Remember, now, in this Mark chapter 14, Yeshua is in the last day of his life, really. Just the next morning, they will put him on a cross, the Roman cross, then he will be doing the midday for six hours on the tree, and about three o'clock in the afternoon, he will die at the end of the day.

And so what we find here now, that they accused him of something that he said years earlier, about three and a half years earlier, at the temple in the city of Jerusalem. What did he say? Now, if you turn with me to John chapter 2, we are back now, to the time where the Lord Yeshua, the Messiah, have cleansed the temple the first time. The Lord Jesus, Yeshua cleansed the temple twice. John chapter 2 was the first time in the earlier days of his ministry. And then later on, he have done so again, the later part of his life, about a few years later. But you notice what we read in John chapter 2, in verse 18.

Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign you show unto us, seeing that you do those things. In other words, he cleansed the temple. If you remember, he removed the money changers, he removed those who sold oxen, and so on in the temple, having those business going on in the house of God. He cleansed the temple, and then they came to him. This is the Jewish leaders, the spiritual leaders of Israel. And they said to him, What sign do you show to us, when you're doing those things? Show us a sign. Who are you? So we read here in verse 19, Yeshua answered and said unto them, Notice that.

Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. He, Yeshua, said to them, You destroy this temple. You'll see that he's applying to his body. You destroy this temple, and I will raise it after three days. And so we read in verse 20, Then said the Jewish leaders, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and will thou rear it up in three days? The temple was already in building for so many years. The temple was already in building for so many years. According to hill 46, actually the total amount of years it took to rebuild the temple by Herod and others was 80 something years, 84 years.

So notice that they're already 40 years in building, and then you're going to rear it up in three days? And then the next verse says in verse 21, it says, But he spake of the temple of his body. And then verse 22 says, When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them, and they believed the scriptures and the word which Yeshua had said. In other words, the Lord Jesus the Messiah was saying in John chapter 2 and verse 19, that you are going to destroy, in other words, to kill this temple, you are going to destroy this temple, namely his body.

You're going to put me eventually to death. But I will be resurrected after three days. He's speaking about his death, burial, and resurrection. Now what did these false witnesses do? They take this statement of the Lord that applied to himself, who will have to die and be resurrected on the third day, and they accuse him as if he was speaking of the temple that existed there in the city of Jerusalem. So back to Mark chapter 14 and verse 58. These witnesses come and they say, He said, we heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands. Notice they are adding some words. And within three days I will build another made without hands.

They again add these words. See what happened, beloved brothers and sisters? And they accuse him now as if he was speaking about the temple in Jerusalem, which the spiritual leaders of Israel and all the nation was going to worship there every day. So they were really accusing him as if he was going to be a rebel that is going to fight and destroy the temple itself there, and then rebuild it again. In other words, they are warning everyone. Hey, hey, hey, he's going to destroy this temple. That's what he said some three and a half years ago. But according to John, we learned very well that Yeshua is not talking about the temple.

He's speaking about the temple of his body. You are going to put my body to death. I will be resurrected. God will raise my body. I will be resurrected on the third day. And you see, here's the accusation. But apparently, those who accuse him, even their witnesses were not agreed together. They could not find any fault in Yeshua the Messiah. Just to remind you, beloved brothers and sisters, the purpose of the coming of the Lord was to lay down his life. John 10, he said, I lay down my life of myself that I might take it again. No man taketh my life for me. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again.

This commandment that I received of my Father. Nobody could take his life. He lay it down of himself. He allowed men, by wicked hands, to take him. And ultimately put him on a shameful Roman cross. What a condition the man had been at. And so here, he says, destroy this temple. And I will raise it on the third day. John chapter 2. "Hear those who accused him, the false witnesses." Twice it's mentioned here in verse 56. "Many bear false witness." Verse 57. "Are all certain that bear false witness against him, those who accuse him falsely." And therefore, even their witness did not agree at all with each other.

What a sad thing we see here of the accusation against the Lord. Now, notice that. Let's move along here. Because in the next verses. 60 and 61a. Now, we find out that the high priest took the charge into his own hand. This is Kayafa. Kayafa now wanted to take charge over this. Because they were seeking for witnesses. Nothing happened. No one could accuse him. And even those that accused him about, destroy this temple made with hand. And in three days, you will build another one together. They saw very well that they could not charge him upon this statement. And their statement was false. What he meant, he speaks of his death and resurrection.

And so now, the high priest is taking charge. Apparently, he got to a point that he wanted, as soon as possible, to do away from Yeshua, who claimed to be the Messiah, because he himself was not appreciated anymore, because many was following after Yeshua the Messiah. So notice what the high priest is doing. In verse 60 and 61a, the high priest, Kayafa, charged Yeshua to say something, to speak for himself. And so it says in verse 60, the high priest stood up in the midst. Imagine, the whole Sanhedrin surrounding him. The elders, the scribes, the chief priests all surround him. And he's standing there in the front there beside the Messiah himself.

And he's saying to Yeshua, he's saying unto him, "Answer thou nothing to their accusation?" Do you have anything to say? Answer thou nothing? What is it which these witnesses witness against you? Don't you say anything? And you notice the Lord in verse 61, Yeshua, but he held his peace, and he answered nothing. He didn't say a word. And you know, brothers and sisters, again, I would like to suggest that that is exactly what the prophet Isaiah said about the Messiah, who would come at his first coming, that he will go as a lamb to the slaughter, and he will not open his mouth. He will say nothing.

You see what we read in Isaiah 53 and verse 6, "All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned everyone to his own way, and the Lord laid upon him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth." Isaiah was writing to our forefathers Israel 750 years before the Messiah came. And he was predicting what behavior the Messiah will have when he will come. So he opened not his mouth. He is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, as a sheep before a shearer is done. So he opened not his mouth. Twice in verse 7 of Isaiah 53, "Yet he opened not his mouth." In Mark chapter 14 in verse 61, "But he," that is Yeshua, "held his peace, and he answered nothing." Accusation against him.

Those that said wrong things about him, and he didn't say anything. Now, isn't it amazing when you really think how different when somebody speaks against us? We revile very quickly. "What are you saying this against me? Why?" And then we respond back. We want to accuse someone else. "You said it. You did it." And instead of leaning on the Lord and trusting in the Lord, we respond immediately because we don't like to be accused. But he was accused wrongfully. There was nothing wrong that he had done. And yet he held his peace. And he answered nothing. In Hebrew, it says, "Vehu hecherish, velo heshiv davar." He was silent.

He didn't respond to all the accusation against him. As a lamb, he was led to the slaughter. So he opened not his mouth. And we go back in history and we think of the many sacrifices of all that had been killed on the altar that God demanded from our forefathers to kill. And all these animals could not say a word. They were taking them. They were slaughtering them. They were pouring its blood. They were shedding it. For example, when Israel came out of Egypt on the doorposts and the lintel, the lamb did not say a thing. And that's how God could atone for the sins of Israel, of our people of all.

And the Messiah now came. And he fulfilled every form and shape of these lambs and rams and goats and oxen of all that had been offered on an altar. And he is now ready to offer himself as a sacrifice for sin. He did not open his mouth. And so now the high priest was even getting more, you might say, upset because he sought for false witnesses. He did not agree with each other. Then he finally found some to accuse him and they are accusing him of something that he said which is wrong that he is not accusing about it. And now he is getting to a point that he is speaking to Yeshua and he said to him, don't you speak for yourself?

Don't you stand for yourself? And Yeshua held his peace, the calmness, and he answered nothing. Now what would you do when you are accused by people surrounding you ready to accuse him? You know in history we find out how many people have been accused wrongly and even put in prison for many years. And then later on they found out they are not even guilty. And this person lost all his life sitting in prison for something he or she have never done. And here we see the Messiah, the supreme example is not saying a word. But you see the high priest is not going to give in.

Kayafas have already said that it is better that one will die for all the nation that all the nation will suffer. So the high priest is intending to come to a point where he can find something to accuse Yeshua. And so notice that now in verse 61 in verse 62 the high priest now asks a second question. You see the first question was Don't you answer for yourself? He said to him. Answer thou nothing? He said. But now notice the second question in verse 61b Then again the high priest asked him and he said unto him Are you the Messiah, the son of the blessed? In Hebrew Ha'ata hu ha-Mashiach ben ha-Mivorach Are you the Messiah, the son of the Mivorach, of the blessed?

The blessed one is God. In other words For one reason or another For one reason or another he understood that the Hebrew scripture promised when the Messiah will come he will be the son of God the son of the blessed one. So he asked him this question Art thou the Messiah, the son of the blessed? Are you the Mashiach, the son of God?

You see He wanted eventually that Yeshua will say something that he could say here it is I caught you in your own words and therefore I can declare you a blasphemy person and eventually will accuse you and send you to Pilate and so notice that the answer of Yeshua the Messiah he is answering here with just two words you might say in Hebrew you might say one word where it says here and Yeshua said here is when finally Yeshua come up with a statement as a response to the leaders of those days he only said to them I am in Hebrew we say are you the Messiah the son of the blessed one the son

of God the answer is I am Anokhi or Ani Ken I am the Messiah I am the son of God the son of the blessed one now just think with me for a moment the Hebrew scriptures have predicted many years ago that when a Messiah will come he will be God the son the son of God you remember what Isaiah we always seem to quote Isaiah because Isaiah is the one that spoke the most you might say give us vivid information about the coming Messiah and to us a child is born Isaiah 9 and verse 6 and to us a son had been given is given and the government shall be upon his shoulder and

his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor the mighty God the everlasting Father or the Father of eternity and the Prince of Peace Wonderful Counselor this is Pele a mighty God El Gibor and then everlasting Father or correctly the Father of eternity Aviad and finally the Prince of Peace Sar Shalom and so the son that was given is the one that is called the mighty God God sent his son to be the savior of this world you see that's what Isaiah has said years ago before the Messiah came notice what the psalmist of Israel David says in Psalm 2 when he was speaking about the Messiah in verse 7 I will declare a decree the Lord

said unto me you are my son this day have I begotten thee ask of me I will give thee the heathen for thine inheritance and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession verse 12 of Psalm 2 kiss the son lest he be angry and he perish from the way he is the Ben ha-Elohim he is the son of God that's the one of whom the Hebrew prophets have spoken about from generation to generation in Proverbs chapter 30 in verse 4 the question was raised who has ascended up to heaven or descended who has gathered the winds in his feast who has bound the waters in a garment who has established all the end

of the earth what is his name and what is his son's name if you can tell King Shlomo was writing what Agur and Etiel or Etiel and Ukal have written down in other words there was a question that Agur asked Etiel and Ukal and he said to them who is the one who created everything who is the one that upheld everything what is his name and what is his son's name and so the high priest asked him and he said to him are you the Mashiach are you the son of the blessed are you the son of God and Yeshua answered very simple I am Anokhi Ani I am the one see some people say

Yeshua never claimed to be the Messiah and he never claimed to be the son of God well here is the answer he clearly he clearly tell the high priest the Kohen Agadol I am both the Mashiach and also the son of the blessed one the son of God and you notice beloved brothers and sisters when he said that it reminds us of the story of Moses who went there in the wilderness of Sinai and he saw the burning bush and how the one from within the burning bush the Lord himself Jehovah God himself said to him when Moses asked him what shall I say to the people of Israel when I am coming who sent

me and in Exodus chapter 3 in verse 14 the Lord said to him I am that I am in Hebrew it says a little bit more I will be that which I will be Eheyeh Asher Eheyeh I will be to Israel everything they will need I will meet their need I will meet their challenges and I will be a help to them but I am here I am the one and in the New Testament how many times Yeshua said Yeshua said I am the bread of life I am the light of this world I am the door by me if any man enter in he shall be saved I am the good shepherd the good

shepherd laid his life for the sheep I am the resurrection and the life John 11 I am the way the truth and the life John 14 I am the vine ye are the branches John chapter 15 are you the Messiah the son of the blessed?

and Yeshua answered I am and notice what he adds to that now now he began to speak and he said to them in verse 62 ye shall see the son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven in other words he is saying to them you will yet see that who I am I will be the one that's sitting at the right hand of God Psalm 110 verse 1 sit thou at my right hand until I make thine enemies thy footstool and you shall see me coming in power in the clouds of heaven this should speak about his second coming he one day will come beloved brothers

and sisters according to Daniel chapter 7 the son of man ben ha-adam he is one day going to come in power and authority and he is going to deal in righteousness with this world who reject him while now he is as a lamb led to the slaughter one day you will see that I will come in the clouds of heaven and you remember what Revelation John tells us Revelation 1 behold he cometh in a cloud and every eye shall see him can you imagine when Yeshua is going to come Revelation 19 at the end of the tribulation period when he is coming to this earth with authority as king of kings and lord of lords

everyone will bow bow to him every knee will have to confess that he is lord that he is the king of kings and lord of lords but here is as a lamb led led to the slaughter and so we read beloved brothers and sisters here that really got the high priest so upset because the moment Yeshua answered with the word I am I am the Mashiach I am the son of the blessed the son of God and I am the one that is going to be sitting at the right hand of God in heaven and I am going to come again one day and you are going to see this in the future day that

got the Kohen HaGadol the high priest exasperated that right now in verses 63 and 64 look at the doing and the saying of the high priest there number one he rent his clothes and number two he accused Yeshua of blasphemy and he pronounced him guilty of death and so we read in verse 63 then the high priest rent his clothes and he said what need we any further witnesses and then after he rent his clothes mourning as if what Yeshua had said that he so disagreed with him and he so opposed him he said look he is now blaspheming he ripped his clothes apart and then in verse 64 he says you have heard the

blasphemy blasphemy what do you think and they all condemned him to be guilty of death in a sense brothers and sisters the high priest who should have led the people to come to know who the Messiah is ended up to be the one who led the people from acknowledging that he was truly the Messiah of Israel and so they all eventually condemned him to be guilty of death and now notice how sad an innocent man who have done nothing wrong who is actually the lover lover of Israel the savior of sinners now what they do with him in verse 65 we see the evil treatment that Yeshua had experienced from some of these men those

servants who stood by it says in verse 65 some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to buffet him and to say unto him prophesy and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands can you imagine beloved brothers and sisters they spit at him they cover his face they buffet him and they strike him and by doing so they fulfilled what Isaiah also spoke again about the Messiah's experience when he will come here to this world Isaiah predicted the Messiah's suffering and being spitted upon by those he came to redeem look what we read in Isaiah 50 verse 4 the Lord God gave unto me the tongue of

the learned that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary morning by morning he wakeneth mine ear to hear as they learned the Lord God have opened mine ears and I was not rebellious neither I turn away back I gave my back to the smiters and my cheeks to them who plucked the hair and I hid not my face listen to that from shame and from spitting Isaiah 50 and verse 6 I hid not my face from shame and from spitting here in chapter 14 of Mark the Jewish leaders behave in that way later on when you are going to go to chapter 15 the Romans were spitting

at him and mocking him and beating him in chapter 15 imagine the behavior towards the person of the Messiah who was innocent who was holy who was harmless and who was undefiled now let me just conclude with the last verses about Shimon Petrus who followed the Lord who wanted to show that he is able to stand for him and even if anybody will deny him and everyone will forsake him he will not and we read already in verse 54 of Mark chapter 14 that he followed but he followed afar off he sat down with those who opposed the Messiah and he was warming himself by the fire and now the tests have arrived when the

time came in verse 66 to 72 we find out the denial of Yeshua the Messiah by Peter and so in verses 66 67 68 is the first denial Peter Peter was beneath in the palace and there cometh one of the maids of the high priest and when she saw Peter warming himself she looked upon him and said and thou also was with Yeshua of Natseret and notice verse 68 68 but he this is the first time Peter denied saying I know not neither understand what thou sayest and he went out of the porch and the cock crew that was the first denial of Peter oh yeah earlier he said though all will deny you I

will not deny the Lord told him you will see that you're going to deny me three times before the rooster will crow twice you're going to deny me three times and here we find Peter's first denial he says I do not know and I do not understand what you are saying and he left that palace went out into the porch and immediately he heard the rooster crowing then in verses 69 and 70 we see his second denial there notice that again he said and a maid it's another one another girl saw him again and began to say to them she was saying to the people that stood by he said that this is one of

them and of course Peter is there he's warming himself there in the fire he's sitting with them outside and so Peter now there it says here in verse 70 he denied it again this is the second time that he denied that he was one of the disciples the maid says this is one of them one that was with Yeshua the Messiah one of the followers of Yeshua and he denied it again but then finally brothers and sisters in verses 70b to verse 72 here's the third denial of Peter it says here in verse 70b now they that stood by this is the other people who stood by there says here in verse 70b they said

again to Peter surely thou art one of them for thou art a Galilean tameha galil and thy speech agrees thereof in other words your speech your accent of the Hebrew there is really a Galilean accent that you speak different than the Judean from the people from Yehudah the people from Galilee have a different accent or different manner or way to express themselves but again the third time in verse 71 he this is Peter he began to curse and to swear saying I know not this man of whom ye speak and immediately verse 72 the second time the rooster crew now you notice what we read here that he curse in verse 71 and he swore

now don't misunderstand the word curse does not mean that Peter curse like we hear people curse today the word here curse come from the Greek word anathema in Hebrew we say cherem anathema or cherem like Paul said in Galatians 1 if anyone preach any other gospel that the gospel that I have given unto you let him be anathema that's the same word cherem anathema accursed in other words Peter you might say apply this to himself the word cherem the word accursed accursed means devoted for destruction and he was really saying he said you know here I am I was claiming that I will stand for the Messiah and I will not deny him though all

will deny him and now I find myself failing when they only ask me if I know him if I know him and I am one of those Galileans that follow the Messiah he began to curse in a sense he began to speak of himself to say I really I deserve to be punished I am wrong and then he says another word the word forswear here in Hebrew it's lehishavah to make an oath and the oath was I do not know this man it is interesting because in the Hebrew that statement he began to curse and to swear in Hebrew it says vayachel lehachrim et nafsho he began to devote his own soul into destruction and

then he swear he made an oath that I do not know I promise you I do not know him at all I do not know him this man of whom you speak and immediately the rooster crew and Peter called to mind you know what I love about that is that Peter understood now that he was wrong because immediately he called to mind a word that Yeshua said earlier in verse 30 in verse 30 of our chapter Yeshua said to him verily I say unto you that this day even in this night before the cock crow twice you shall deny me thrice and now Peter kind of looked back and he remembered the words of Yeshua

the Messiah who said to him before the rooster will crow two times you will deny me three times and it hit him it hit him it hit him and you notice what it says it says when he thought the wrong he wept if you will read Matthew 26 verse 75 he wept bitterly I can just imagine perhaps the eyes of Yeshua somehow from inside was locked with his eyes and he saw the very one that he promised him that he will never deny him and he realized that he denied his Lord he denied the Messiah and he realized like we all need to realize we all need to realize that we fail God that we

need his grace to sustain us if we are going to follow after him and that all the promises that we make to him we have to be careful to ask him Lord give me grace you know every year we turn the page we make new commitment a new year a new white page we start again and we make all kind of new year resolutions and promises to God I will be faithful and I will do this and then we break them every time and we need like Paul needed to hear from the Lord my grace is sufficient for you I will give you grace for the moment don't trust yourself trust in the Lord with

all thine heart don't lean on your own understanding in all your ways just acknowledge him don't trust in yourself because you will fail again and again and again you know whenever we're going to stop to fail when the Lord will give us a glorified body suitable for his presence sin apart that's the time that we're going to be in perfection honoring the Lord but here and now we need his grace every time and the beautiful thing beloved brothers and sisters just to say that this is just to say that Peter wept that shows us that he really cared that he was broken before the Lord and then later on the Lord said to the disciples

you go tell the disciples and to Peter that I will meet them in Galilee and in the Galilee he restored Peter into ministry ministry you don't find you don't find Judas weeping you don't find the high priests weeping you don't find all those who rejected the Messiah who accused him wrongly weeping but you find Peter weeping because Peter was a child of God who failed but he was one that belonged to Yeshua the Messiah the Messiah praise God for the fact that there is restoration for those who belong to Yeshua the Messiah the Messiah
