Shalom my dear friends, dear brothers and sisters. We continue together with the study of the Gospel of John, and at this ministry meeting, we have an amazing chapter, John chapter 17, in which we learn and we are able to listen into the prayer that our Lord Yeshua, the Messiah, is now sharing with God the Father. This chapter is a very important chapter, has 26 verses, and I would like to read in this portion the first 12 verses of John, Yohanan chapter 17. We read in verse 1, "These words spake Yeshua, Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven and said, 'Abba', this is Father, the hour is come, glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee, as thou has given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou have given power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou have given power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou have given power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou have given power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou have given power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou have given power over all flesh.
and this is eternal life, that they might know thee, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus Christ, whom thou have sent. I have glorified thee on the earth. I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self, that thou have given me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self, that thou have given power over all flesh, that they might know thee, the only true God, and Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus Christ, whom thou have sent. I have glorified thee on the earth. I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self, with the glory which I had with thee before the world was. I have manifested thy name unto the man which thou gavest me out of the world. Thine they were, and thou gavest them me, and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me, and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. I pray for them. I pray for them.
I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me, for they are thine, and all mine are thine, and thine are mine, and I am glorified in them. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee, Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one as we are. While I was with them, while I was with them, in the world I kept them in thy name, those that thou gavest me, I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition, that the scripture might be fulfilled.
Brothers and sisters, I will stop here in verse 12 of John chapter 17, simply because it is the appropriate place to stop, so we will continue in the will of the Lord with the next portion of John chapter 17. In fact, of course, all these 17th chapter, all these 26 verses, are really the prayer of our Lord, Yeshua, the Messiah, as he speaks, communicate with God the Father. Really, this is the prayer of the Lord. This is really not the disciples' prayer, which I really mention in Matthew chapter 6, which Yeshua taught his disciples in the earlier part of his ministry here upon the face of this earth. You remember in Matthew chapter 6, verses 9 to 15, where we see how the Lord, Yeshua, Jesus, teaching the disciples how to pray.
He said in verse 9, Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgave our debtors, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. And even, he continued, he said, for if, he continued to teach the disciples, if you will forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. And the Lord, Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah, in Matthew chapter 6, verses 9 to 13, taught the disciples what is known, the disciples' prayer. And you and I as believers today, who are Talmidim, who are following Yeshua, we learn from this prayer how to pray, and how to approach God through prayer.
But here, beloved brothers and sisters, in chapter 17 of the gospel of Yohanan, the Lord himself is just about to be captured in the garden of Gethsemane, Gat Shmanim, of which we will read in John chapter 18. But, once he finished to keep the feast of Pesach, in the upper room in Yerushalayim, he introduced what is known to us today, the remembrance of the Lord. Or, as it's called in the scripture, the Lord's Supper, the Lord's remembrance of the Messiah in his death, burial, and resurrection. That he has done in the upper room in the city of Yerushalayim. He taught the disciples, in chapter 14 and 15 and 16, there was this presentation of that which will happen once he will go to the cross and return to heaven.
And he encouraged the disciples in the upper room in the city of Yerushalayim, by instructing them in chapter 13 and 14 and 15 and 16. Now, when he left the upper room with the disciples, on the way to the garden of Gat Shmanim, to remind you that the word Gethsemane comes from two Hebrew words, Gat, which means a press, a press of oil. And then Shmanim is the, it comes from the Hebrew word, oil, shemen. And in the Gat Shmanim garden, there was a press that were pressing oil and olives and making oil in order to provide oil for the people of Israel. And then he will be, Yeshua will be praying and ultimately will be captured and taken to Pilate.
But you notice that in between the end of Yeshua's instruction to the disciples and the time in which he will be in the garden of Gethsemane, Gethsemane, we have this extremely interesting prayer that is found in John chapter 17. You will notice, beloved brothers and sisters, that when the Lord Jesus is praying here, he will be praying, first of all, for himself in the first eight verses. He will continue to pray, to speak to his Abba, to his Father in prayer. In verses 9 to 19, he will be praying for the disciples who were with him in Israel, in the land of Canaan, in Jerusalem. And then at the end of his prayer, he will pray for all the rest who will become believers.
That is including you and I and all true disciples of Yeshua, the Messiah, who will come to know him by faith through the preaching of the gospel by the early Hebrew apostles. So it is very interesting to notice this here in the 17th chapter. Another important thing to learn here, beloved brothers and sisters, is that in this chapter 17, there is also, you might say, a progression in which Yeshua is addressing his Abba, his Father. You notice in verse 1, we read, And he said, Abba, Father. Then a little bit later on, in verse 11, Yeshua is calling his Abba, his Father, Holy Father, Abba Kadosh. And then later on, at the end of the chapter, in verse 25, Yeshua, Jesus, the Messiah, addressing his Father by saying, By calling him, righteous Father, Abba, or Avihat Tzadik, God is holy, and God is righteous.
So you notice the progression. Abba, in verse 1, Holy Abba, Holy Father, in verse 11, and Righteous Abba, Righteous Father, in verse 25. This progression shows us how the Lord, you might say, in his communication with his Father, which he allows us to listen to, as it were, by reading the 17th chapter of the Gospel of John, he addressing his Father, first he addressing him as his Father, Abba, and then addressing him as one who is a Holy Father, Abba Kadosh, and then ultimately culminating with the end of the prayer by calling him a righteous Abba, Abba, or Avi Hat Tzadik, God is righteous in his dealing with humanity, in everything he does, God is holy, and God is righteous.
Our Father is holy, and our Father is righteous. Also, I would like to share with you that in this 17th chapter, we learn from the prayer of Yeshua the Messiah, that he presents during his prayer the privileges and the blessings that each and every believer in him is possessing and having because of what Jesus is about to do by dying for the sin of this world. And so, if you will notice, in verses 1 to 5, the Lord Jesus the Messiah is really, in his prayer we learn that everyone that belongs to him shares with his life, belongs to him. We have the life of Christ, the life of the Messiah.
Secondly, in verses 6 to 12, every true believer really not only shares in his life, meaning receive life because of him, but also every true believer really knows God's name, knows the Father's name. Then thirdly, in verses 13 on, verses 13 to 19, every true believer in Jesus the Messiah will be sanctified because God has set us apart, set God's people apart through his word. And ultimately, in verses 20 to the end of the chapter to verse 26, Yeshua will learn from his prayer that God's people, that every true believer will ultimately share in Messiah's glory, in the glory of our Lord Yeshua, Jesus the Messiah. And so, beloved brothers and sisters, I would like to begin by reading verse 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, because in the first five verses, the Lord Jesus the Messiah is praying for himself, first of all, because he's just about to go to die for the sin of this world.
He will be captured, he will be taken to the shameful cross, he will bear the sin of this world in his body, on the tree. And therefore, in his prayer, in his communication with his Father, he is praying, first of all, for himself, and for that which is to happen, but also we learn from this that all believers, all true, redeemed, forgiven people, will share with him in his life. And so you notice that we read here in verse 1, Now you notice that, beloved brothers and sisters, that this first verse of chapter 17 is a direct continuation from the previous chapter. Because in the previous chapter, Yeshua concluded with the words in verse 33, These things have I spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace.
In the world ye shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. You notice that the last word in John chapter 16 is the word world. In the Greek, it is kosmos. This word, for the word world, is really mentioned many, many times. In fact, it had been said that it is mentioned some 19 times in John chapter 17. And so, after telling the disciples that they will experience tribulation in the world, but to be encouraged because he, Yeshua, overcome the world, he is cheering them, encouraging them, then while the disciples are there with him. At the same time, it may happen in the upper room or on the way to the Garden of Gethsemane or just about as they are entering or by the Garden of Gatshmanim, there, Yeshua, turn to pray, to lift up, as it says here, his eyes to heaven and pray.
Notice that we don't read that he closed his eyes, but that he lifted up his eyes. This is very customary in the Scripture, to lift up their eyes and to look to God who is the creator of heaven and earth, who is the one, the one who is Lord and the king and the ruler. And here we see the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, as man, now addressing his Abba, his Father. And notice how beautiful. He lifted up his eyes to heaven and he began to speak to his Father while his disciples are listening to this amazing, amazing communication of prayer of Yeshua with God the Father.
And so in verse 1, we find out that the Lord Jesus, the Messiah, is sharing with the Father about the fact that the hour of his being judged for the sin of this world has come. We read in the beginning of this chapter, he said, Father, Abba, the hour has come. Glorify thy Son that thy Son also may glorify thee. You see, the Lord Jesus is now praying to the Father about that hour that had finally come. He's just about to be captured and be taken to Caiaphas from the Garden of Gethsemane and then from there to Pilate and then from Pilate to the cross and there on the cross God will judge him for the sin of this world.
And so here his time has finally arrived. So if you remember in the earlier times in chapter 2 of the Gospel of John we read that he said that mine hour is not yet come. You remember what he said to his mother? He said to her, what have I to do with thee? Mine hour has not come as yet when his mother Miriam asked him to do something at that wedding feast in Cana. At that time his hour was not yet come. Later on in chapter 7 and verse 30 we read and I'll read this verse because in chapter 7 and verse 30 we read and they sought to take him but no man laid hand on him because his hour was not yet come.
You see beloved friend Yeshua the Messiah was really you might say living his life here on a suitable clock. He exactly did that which the Father God the Father sent him to do. So he was on divine timetable and therefore when the hour is come he's ready now to lay down his life. It reminds us of the verse that we read in the Psalms where David said in verse 15 of Psalm 31 mine hour or my times are in thine hands. He was praying to God he knew that his time is in God's hand and therefore here Yeshua the Messiah who is the antitype of whom David was and here we read of him who said that the hour has come.
How wonderful to know and he's now praying to the Father and he said Father the hour has come glorify thy son that thy son may glorify thee.
Well to remind you beloved brothers and sisters how God glorified his son well God will glorify his son the Messiah will be glorified by the Father after he will finish the work of redemption to remind you that we read in Isaiah and in the prophets that he must suffer that he will become the one that will be as a lamb will be led to the slaughter and he will finally pay for the sin of this world and ultimately he shall see of the travel of his soul and shall be satisfied he will die he will be punished for the sin of this world but ultimately God will raise him and glorify him and will place
him at the pinnacle of the universe so the hour has come Father the hour has come glorify thy son that thy son also may glorify thee you notice that the two aspects of glorifying the Father and the Father will glorify the Son how did Yeshua glorify the Father how did he glorify his Abba he glorified his Abba by fulfilling that which he was sent down to this world you remember what we read of him in in the gospel of John a bit earlier John chapter 4 verse 34 for my food is to do the will of him that sent me and to finish his work I came down to finish his work this is the
purpose that I came down from heaven verse 38 of John chapter 6 for I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of him that sent me we read in John 8 and verse 29 we read at the end for I do always those things that please him that please God the father his Abba John 10 tells us in verse 17 therefore does my father love me because I lay down my life you see that's what Yeshua the Messiah was praying for the hour is come Abba glorify thy son that thy son may glorify thee and through the cross when Yeshua died for the sin of this world the Abba
God the father was glorified and once he is glorified now he take that man God the son who became a man Yeshua and his man will glorify him and surely he did so as we know that Yeshua is right now seated at God's right hand so how wonderful to see the Hebrew word for glory or glorified is the word kavod it come from the word honor and glory he honored God the father and therefore God the father honored God the son as man Yeshua Jesus by raising him from the dead and placing him at the pinnacle of the universe and so as Yeshua continuing this amazing high priestly prayer in which he communicate with his
Abba he continue in verse 2 and he says as thou has given him power over all flesh that he should give eternal life to as many as thou has given him that him of course is the son as we read father the hour has come glorify thy son verse 2 as thou has given him this is thy son power over all flesh that he this is the son of the father this is Yeshua should give eternal life to as many as thou this is God the father has given him this is the Messiah Jesus so imagine Yeshua in his prayer is asking now to glorify him and now notice that God gave the Lord Jesus
Christ Jesus the Messiah to have authority to give eternal life to as many whom God the father had given to him to as many who will become believers notice this expression eternal life eternal life is mentioned in the word of God many many times it had been said that it's mentioned in the gospel of John some 17 times the Hebrew word for eternal life is chayey olam chayey olam means a life that is endless but you will see that it is mentioned throughout the gospel of John John 3 16 the famous verse that we all know for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth on him shall
not perish but have eternal life everlasting life John 3 and verse 36 we read right there he that believeth on the son hath eternal life everlasting life and we can continue on throughout the scripture especially in the gospel of John once and again this expression eternal life is mentioned in John chapter 6 and verse 47 we read verily verily I said to you he that believeth on me hath eternal life everlasting life and this is so precious because the assurance of having eternal life is very very precious for us to know in John 10 28 for I give unto them eternal life once and again this expression eternal life in the Hebrew it's so precious
to know that you and I were believers in the person and the work of Yeshua Jesus the Messiah we have eternal life and he continued in this verse 2 and he said father you have given me that power over all flesh that I will be able to give eternal life to as many as you have given me you see you and I are gifts from God God the father to God the son and once we have turned to him by faith we from that point on have eternal life and as yeshua and as Yeshua in his prayer praying for himself here and sharing through his prayer with us all the fact that we share the
life that he has because we became children of God and so in verse 3 we learn what is eternal life my dear friend this is very important to know eternal life is not only length of life but it is a quality of life because in verse 3 we read and this is eternal life that they might know thee the only true God and Jesus Christ Yeshua HaMashiach whom thou hast sent this is eternal life this is Chaye Olam Chaye Olam is not only length of time but Chaye Olam eternal life is quality of life eternal life is a relationship that one has with the living God eternal life is given to the believers through the
person of the Lord Jesus who said of himself I am the way the truth and the life John 14 and verse 6 so every one of us who are believers in the person and the work of the Lord Jesus the Messiah have eternal life and it's not only the length of life it is the quality of life because this is eternal life to to know thee to know Abba to know the father the only true God the God of Abraham Isaac and Jacob the God of Israel the God and father of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah this is the only true God there is no other God besides this God of Israel the only true
God and that's why it is important for us to understand that here we have Yeshua on the way to the garden of Gethsemane speaking to the father lifting up his eyes to heaven and mentioning this eternal life that everyone that have trusted in him will receive so eternal life is relationship with God eternal life is given to us only through the Lord Jesus the Messiah who is the one who came from heaven to provide redemption and it will be given to everyone who is born of the spirit of God born of God and eternal life is not a religion it's not a religious activity but it is a relationship with God and everyone that want
to have eternal life he or she must be born of the spirit must be one that have accepted the person and the work of the Lord Jesus the Messiah why it is only this way because there is no other way to be forgiven there is no other ground upon which we can stand sinners before a holy God except through the finished work of Yeshua Jesus the Messiah in fact beloved friends the devil according to the scripture we find out that the devil even believe and yet the devil is an enemy of God according to James chapter 2 and verse 19 James said you believe that there is one God you do well that devil also
believe or demons believe and they tremble so to say that you believe in your head and not to believe in your heart sincerely after repenting of one's sin is not sufficient to receive eternal life eternal life is not a religion eternal life we don't gain it because of our being a family member with some others who are born again eternal life is given only to true sincere believers in Yeshua the Messiah according to John 1 and verse 12 we read as many as received him one must receive the Messiah to them he gave the authority to become sons of God even to them that believe on his name which were born not of blood not
of the will of the flesh nor of the will of men but of God this is eternal life John 17 3 that they might know the only true God and Jesus Christ Yeshua the Messiah whom thou have sent you see God predicted in days of all that in the fullness of the time the Messiah will come he will be born to the virgin Miriam he is the Emmanuel he will be born in the city of Bethlehem according to Micah 5 he will be a Nazarene living in Nazaret and he will be the one that will be fulfilling all that which God has sent him which ultimately will bring him to the shameful tree where he
will be judged by God as we read in Isaiah 53 that all we like sheep have gone astray we have turned everyone to his own way but the Lord laid upon him the iniquity of us all so he continues in this prayer in verses 4 and 5 look what Yeshua is praying now in anticipation to remind you he is not yet on the cross in John 17 he is just on the way to the Garden of Gethsemane after he finished his discourse in the upper room the Garden of Gethsemane is right there on Mount Olives in the lower portion of the mountain of Olives there many times he resorted to praying it was there he
was going now but on the way he prays and notice what he is praying in anticipation in verses 4 and 5 he said I have glorified thee on earth I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do and now oh father glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was notice these two verses are very interesting because he says in this verse for I have glorified thee on the earth that was in his lifetime he from the Jesus was born until the time that he went to the shameful tree to the cross in everything that Yeshua Jesus the Messiah did and spoke and
every act he acted here in this world he glorified God the father on the earth you see many many men in history did honor God here in this world many who have done so Enoch walked with God and he was taken to heaven Noah walked with God and God took Noah to the other side of the flood to enter and to begin a new world Abraham honored God and pleased him he was called a friend of God Yitzchak Isaac honored God and Yaakov honored God he was the one that God had chosen and he called he changed his name from Yaakov to Israel prince of God Moshe honored God in his life he was the
meekest man on earth and then you read Aaron honored God who was the high priest of Israel many honored God in this world but all were still sinners David honored God but David also dishonored God as many and all dishonored God because we all have sin nature in fact Paul honored God Peter honored God but they said depart for me for I am a sinful man Peter said to the Lord Paul Shaul Paul said for I know that in me that is in my flesh dwelleth no good thing every one who served God honored God in this world but with limitation with much failure because of our sin nature you and I seek to honor
God in this world but there was one who is above all others and his name is Yeshua Jesus he truly glorified God in every step he took upon the face of this earth as I have already read in in the fourth chapter of this gospel where Yeshua Jesus the Messiah said my food my meat and my drink my meat is to do the will of him that sent me and to finish his work this is my food this is everything that I am here in this world for and because he was the sinless one born sin apart he honored God from the day that he was born to the day that he died on the
shameful Roman cross that's why we can read here the word I have glorified thee on the earth what a joy Yeshua Yeshua Jesus the Messiah God the son yes but he became a man and as men he glorified God here upon the face of this earth and then he said he continued to say in verse 4 in his prayer I have finished the work which thou gave me to do beloved brothers and sisters and dear friends you see when sin came into this world God knew that he will have to send the Messiah the son of God as man to this world that's why we read already when sin came into this world in Genesis
chapter 3 where God did say in the punishment that he gave to Adam and Eve he did say in verse 14 and 15 of Genesis chapter 3 to the serpent to Satan he said that to the serpent because thou hast done this thou are cursed above all the cattle and above every beast of the field upon thy belly shall thou go and thus shall thou eat all the days of thy life and then the Lord continued to say I will put an enmity between thee and the woman and between thy seed and her seed and notice that the seed of the woman namely Yeshua Jesus the Messiah he will be bruised you will bruise him
Satan but he will bruise will crush your head it will bruise thy head and thou shall bruise his heel this is Genesis 3 verse 15 at the end of this verse in other word the promise of God that the Mashiach will come with the seed of the woman came to fruition when the Lord Jesus the Messiah God the Son was born as man into this world and came to fulfill that which was promised by the Lord so I have finished notice that the work which thou gavest me to do what is this work God sent the Mashiach to come to accomplish the work of redemption and finally it was fulfilled when the Messiah came now
remember that in John 17 Yeshua hasn't died as yet he has not gone to the cross as yet but it is a prayer of anticipation knowing that he will surely soon will be crucified and bear the sin of this world in Daniel chapter 9 and verse 24 we read 70 weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city listen to finish the transgression to finish the transgression you see sin has to be paid for transgression must be judged who will finish transgression the Messiah the Messiah the Lord Jesus the Messiah himself who said I have finished the work which thou gave me to do to remind you and again I'm going back to
John chapter 4 and there in verse 34 where we do read my meat is to do the will of him that sent me notice and to finish his work that's the reason why Yeshua Jesus the Messiah came to finish the work of redemption which God have already said this to the serpent in the garden of Eden when sin came in in Genesis chapter 3 he promised this throughout the history of the people of Israel through the prophet Isaiah Jeremiah that one will come to finish the work in Daniel chapter 9 verse 24 in fact when we will arrive to John chapter 19 and verse 30 there Yeshua will say ultimately it is finished there when
he will expire and give up the spirit after a holy God judged him as men for the sin of this world the work of redemption will be finished at his death burial and resurrection so here in John 17 as Yeshua Jesus is praying to the father he said I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do he continue in verse 5 and and now father glorify thou me with thine all self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was now remember we said that at the end of John 16 verse 33 he did say I have overcome the world and now in chapter 17 Yeshua is praying to the
father and he is telling him that he has just finished the work of redemption and now he is asking again in anticipation that the father will glorify him and notice that with his own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was well if the Lord Jesus here is only a man and not the eternal son of God well how could he say I glorify me with the glory which I had with thee before the world was well to remind you beloved brothers and sisters that the theme of the gospel of John is the fact that Yeshua Jesus the man is more than just a man he is the eternal son
of God we read in John 1 verse 1 in the word was with God and the word was God well in the beginning in eternity past he was there and then he was with God in other words he was a distinct personality within the Godhead and then we learn and the word was God in other words he was the one that was eternally with God the Father with God the Holy Spirit and also he is the eternal God the Son we read that he was the creator verse 3 of John 1 all things were made by him and without him was nothing made which was made you remember Genesis 1 in the beginning God created
the heavens and the earth the word Elohim in Genesis 1 is a plurality all the three persons of the Godhead were involved in creation then we read in John 1 14 and the word became flesh he became a man and the reason that Yeshua the reason that God the Son became a man in the person of Jesus the Messiah Yeshua HaMashiach is in order that he will finish the work which the Father had given him to do the work of redemption and and then and then will be glorified and return back to where he came from glorify thy son with the glory which I had with thee before the world was and so in the
first five verses we learn that Yeshua is praying for himself as he speaks to God the Father but also we learn that every true believer has a share in the life of the Messiah the life of Christ we have eternal life we have because we have accepted the one who died for our sins now as we move along beloved brothers and sisters in verses 6 to 12 the Lord Jesus the Messiah continue his prayer and there we learn that he desire that God's people will know God the Father's name and to know the name is to know that you have an intimate relationship with God and so we read in verse 6 I have manifested
thy name unto men which thou gavest me out of the world thine they were and thou gavest them me and they have kept thy word now they have known that all things whatsoever thou given me are of thee you notice that the Lord Jesus manifested the name of God the name of God the father the name of Abba God the father to his own people this is very interesting because here we learn that you remember what God said to Moshe in Exodus chapter 3 when Moshe was just about to go to lead the people of Israel to come out of Egypt and Moses said to God before he was sent to Egypt in verse 13
of Exodus chapter 3 behold I will when I come unto the children of Israel and shall say unto them the God of your father has sent me unto you and they shall say unto me what is his name what shall I say unto them and God said unto Moshe I am that I am and he said thus shall thou say unto the children of Israel I am has sent me unto you verse 15 we read and God said moreover unto Moses thus shall thou say unto the children of Israel Jehovah Yahweh God of your fathers the God of Abraham the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob has sent me unto you this is
my name forever and this is my memorial unto all generations and so when Yeshua said that he revealed God name to the children of Israel or to those who became believers the disciples Israel as a nation knew God before Yeshua Jesus came to this world as the I am as Jehovah but now we learn that there is an additional lesson to learn here that was not really known in days of old to the people of Israel and now the disciples can enjoy that the Lord Jesus presented now God not only as the great I am though he is the eternal covenant keeping God the Jehovah the Jehovah but God through his son Yeshua revealed himself
as a father as Abba as a father and not only a father to the nation Israel as a nation as indeed we read in scripture that God was a father unto the nation of Israel but here we learn that every one of us individually now know God as a father that's why we read in John 1 again in verse 12 as many as received him to them he gave power to become to be called the sons Bnei Elohim the sons of God even to them who believe on his name and we learn that now we believers can call God Abba our father so Yeshua manifested the father's name to his disciples and individually now they
can enjoy Abba the father as their God and their father you see God was always a father to the nation of Israel as a nation nationally he was a father to the nation of Israel nationally in fact in Exodus chapter 4 and verses 22 and 23 we read and thou shall say unto Pharaoh thus saith the Lord Israel is my son notice Israel was a son to the father but as a nation even my firstborn I say unto thee let my son ben in Hebrew ben shel ha'aba son of the father Israel nationally was a son of God nationally but here beloved brothers and sisters we learn what Israel had as a nation individual believers
can enjoy today calling God Abba a father we read in Jeremiah chapter 31 and verse 9 they shall come with weeping and with supplication will I lead them I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble for I am a father to Israel and Ephraim is my firstborn so God is a father to Israel nationally but here we learn an additional truth that every individual today can call God Abba father and this is very precious to our hearts beloved brothers and sisters as we do read in the New Testament we cry Abba father individually we can do so and that's what the Lord is
teaching us here through his prayer that he he said I have manifested thy name I have manifested thy name unto the man which thou gavest me out of the world thine they were and thou gavest them me and they have kept thy word now they have known that all things whatsoever thou has given me are of thee very precious in these two verses six and seven these disciples knew that all things whatever God the father gave to Yeshua Jesus the Messiah as man it is really from him from God this is fascinating you notice that God gave the Lord Jesus the Messiah authority to give life authority here in this world that a God the
father gave to his son so these verses are very precious so they knew that all that belonged to the Lord Jesus the Messiah was actually given to him by the father and you remember beloved brothers and sisters this was given to them by revelation to remind you when earlier the Lord asked the disciples who do men say that I the son of man am you remember in Matthew chapter 16 and once the apostle Peter said you are the Messiah the son of the living God the Lord said to him blessed are thou Simon bar yonah for flesh and blood has not revealed unto thee but my father which is in heaven in other word God
the father through God the son Jesus the Messiah revealed to us the fact that all that which belonged to God was given to that man by the name of Yeshua Jesus the Messiah so we read in verse 8 that the Lord Jesus said that he I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me and they have received them and have known surely that I came out from thee and they have believed that thou did send me you can just imagine how it must have been challenging for the early disciples who followed the Lord Jesus the Messiah when the rest of the nation of Israel hasn't yet acknowledged him the spiritual leaders of Israel
did not recognize that he was indeed a promised redeemer the Messiah but these disciples which were a gift from God the Father to his son they according to verse 8 notice that they have believed that you have sent me to remind us of this expression in 1st John chapter 4 and verse 14 the father sent the son to be the savior of the world and you know beloved friend until today the world in which we live in the vast majority of the world in which we live in still do not believe do not believe that Yeshua was sent by the father but these disciples have and these disciples became the foundation of the assembly of
the church they were the ones that preached the message of the gospel to the lost world beginning in Judea and then Shomon Samaria and then ultimately in the uttermost parts of the earth Jerusalem Judea Samaria and to the uttermost parts of this earth they preached the message that they believed in because they believed that the Messiah was sent by the father that the Lord Jesus was sent by the father so now notice that as Yeshua continue in his prayer you notice that we are now learning from his prayer that the early disciples received that amazing revelation that the revelation of the relationship that they have now with God now not only as a father nationally
for all Israel but individually the father's name in a special intimate relationship that they can have with the father remind us I just want to read this one verse here is found in Romans chapter 8 where the apostle Paul is expounding on this truth in Romans 8 Paul Shaul mentioning this to the believers at Rome we said to them who is he that condemneth it is Christ who died yet rather that he is risen again who is even at the right hand of God who maketh intercession for us the apostle Paul have encouraged the believers at Rome to understand the place that God gave to his son and if you remember that we read earlier
in Romans chapter 8 for as many as are led by the spirit of God they are the sons of God verse 15 and he have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear but he received the spirit of adoption whereby we individually as well as collectively cry Abba our father Abba Avinu Abba father Abba our father this is so precious to know beloved brothers and sisters and therefore the revelation of God as a father to each believer here in this world is amazing truth to learn and while it is a blessing for Israel as a nation to be called Israel is my son by God yet it is also a precious blessing for us
to be called by Abba by the father sons and daughters and that we in can call him Abba our father in Galatians chapter 4 and verse 6 because he are sons Paul said God has sent forth the spirit of his son into your hearts crying Abba our father Abba father Abba our father Abba avin we can cry to God Abba our father and share with him all the challenges that we as believers experience in our life so beloved friends as we just head on towards the end of this portion in these next verses verses 8 9 10 11 and 12 Yeshua continues says now they have known that all things whatsoever thou has given me
are thine this is verse 7 are of thee and I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me and they have received them and have known surely that I came out from thee and they have believed that thou did send me notice he said Yeshua in prayer I have given to them the words which thou has given me this is interesting in verse 8 because there the words is Rema this is God utterances this is the utterances of God that Greek word is Rema and so the Lord gave them the utterances of God the disciples have learned from him that which God have uttered in order to benefit them and this is very
precious so he continues in verse 9 after saying that they believe that you have sent me so he is praying for their disciples look how precious I pray for them verse 9 I pray not for the world but for them which thou has given me for they are thine and all mine are thine and thine are mine and I am glorified in them you see in verses 9 and 10 Yeshua is directly praying for the disciples for the shlichim he is praying to the father for them telling the father that he doesn't pray for the world namely the one who rejected him oh yes he longed for the world to turn to him he came
to die for the sin of this world but now in this prayer he is praying for the disciples who will remain here in this world and he said I pray not for the world but for them which thou given me because they are thine and all mine are thine and thine are mine and I am glorified in them you see the disciples would bring glory to the Lord Jesus as they continue on to follow after him and then in verses 11 and 12 Yeshua continued and he said I pray that you will keep thine own practically here in this world as they are living here in this world and notice the prayer of the Lord
in these last two verses of this portion for this ministry and now I am in this verse 11 I am now no more in the world but these are in the world and I come to thee O Holy Father keep through thine own name those whom thou has given me that they may be one as we are while I was with them in the world I kept them in thy name those that thou gave me I have kept and none of them was lost but the son of perdition that the scripture might be fulfilled and and so beloved brothers and sisters in these verses verse 10 and 11 and 12 we learn that the Lord
Jesus the Messiah is praying for the disciples because all that belong to him belong to God the Father and all that belong to God the Father belong to him to God the Son and that because of this the Lord is glorified through the disciples and now he's just about to leave this world and so he's asking God the Father to keep them keep them through thine own name those whom thou has given me it's not keeping them saved no because once they have accepted Yeshua they are already once and for all are redeemed they are saved they are forgiven but to keep them beloved brothers and sisters in a sense of sustaining them to be
close to God in a world that is filled with temptation filled with rejection filled with persecution filled with trials Jesus the Messiah is asking the Father to keep his own disciples through the Father's name those whom he had given and what did he want them to be to be practically united that they may be one as we are beloved brothers and sisters every true believer who is part of the church of the assembly is part of one body that belong to the Lord there is only one assembly one church one ecclesia but to be one practically in harmony and unity this demand humility this demand nearness to the father this demand obedience to the son
this demand to be led by the spirit of God and in order to do so one need to stay close to the Lord and here Yeshua praying that they the disciples will be practically one in their journey here as they continue to follow the Lord after he depart from them and going back to heaven through the cross Yeshua said that while I was with them in the world I gave them in thy name those whom thou gavest me in other words the Lord maintained the disciples close to him when he was here with them but he is just about to go to the cross and to return back to God and so he said in
verse 12 I have kept them none of them was lost they were all kept close to Yeshua none that belonged to the Lord had gone astray but there was only one that we read here at the end of verse 12 except or but the son of perdition the son of perdition that the scripture might be fulfilled and that son of perdition is none else but Yehuda Ishkrayot of whom we read in John 13 and verse 10 Jesus says unto him he that is washed needeth not to be washed but is clean every wheat and ye are clean but not all in verse 10 later on in verse 21 of John chapter 13 when Jesus had
thus said he was troubled in spirit and he testified and said verily verily I say unto you that one of you shall betray me then we find out later on in verse 27 and after the supper we find out that Satan enter unto him this is unto Judas then Yeshua said unto him what you do do it quickly so there he went out and Judas the son of perdition went out and ultimately fulfilling the psalmist of Israel in psalm 41 and psalm 69 that he was the one that was the one who will ultimately be the one who will betray the Lord he is the son of destruction of whom we read in John chapter
13 so my dear brothers and sisters in the first 12 verses of John chapter 17 in the prayer of Yeshua Jesus the Messiah to God the Father we find two important lessons that every true believer everyone who belongs to the people of God shared with the Messiah's life and secondly verses 6 to 12 everyone that belonged to God who is the true child of God is now are the one that received a revelation concerning God the Father and each and every one of us can cry and call our God Abba our Father our Father Abba our Father and we can share with him that which is upon our hearts in our next session in John
chapter 17 verses 13 to the end we will learn additional two important lessons which we will talk about once we will arrive to John chapter 17 verse 13 to the end so beloved brothers and sisters God bless you and may the Lord continue to lead us as we follow him here in this world until the next time Shalom Shalom
